  1. Because I hate the small of cigar smoke. There is no odor anywhere in the world worse than the smell of cigar smoke. The smell of one cigar can contaminate at least several acres of open land.

You are free to smoke them anywhere that smoking them is permitted but just don't smoke them near me in a place where they are not allowed.

    DON

    "..... at least several acres......."

    dang.

  2. FWIW - 2014 Summit to Bermuda - A+ - we had a great time. our 4th X cruise at the time. Service, food, crew attitude, great. So much so we convinced a group of friends, 7 others, to join us this year on the same cruise.

Talked about how great the service, food in BLU, the entire X experience was.

Major disappointment. Drink service was terrible at most bars EXCEPT the martini bar. Food in the MDR, fine, nothing to write home about. BLU, hit or miss, even their breakfast, which we had raved about.

Disappointing to the point I was somewhat embarrassed for talking friends into joining us. The feel of "being taken care of" is gone. Have already started looking at other lines.

  3. hoping someone might be able to confirm the following information I pulled from a May 2015 Summit sailing to Bermuda.

we are on this cruise next week and May/2015 is the most recent posting of the dailies that I could find. I am interested on the hours of operation for the first full sea day, can anyone confirm the following:

    Mast Bar / deck 11 / opens @ 11am

    Sunset Bar / 10 / 7.30am

    Pool bar / 10 / 9am

    Coffee Bar / 5 / 6.30am

    Martini Bar / 4 / 3pm

    Rendez vous Lounge / 4 / 11am

    Cellar Masters / 5 / noon

I have come across mentions of something called the Oceanview Bar located on deck 10. does anyone know if this is just another name for the Sunset Bar?

Also, the Casino Bar is "open during operating hours. " Slots are available to play at 9am. So I interpret this to mean the bar also opens at 9am?

I know this are fairly specific questions but I'm hoping maybe someone held on to their dallies and might be able to help me out.

    thanks for any information!

  4. we're on the Summit.

had thought that if need be we could use the coffee bar for our first stop but was hoping to find an actual "bar." not a fan of alcohol in my coffee.

although it just occurred to me that if I'm remembering correctly the coffee bar did serve champagne. that wouldn't be a bad first stop.

anyone know for sure what time the casino bar opens. from the dailies, it states that it opens when the casino opens. the dailies I'm looking at show a slot tournament (pull?) at 9am that morning. I assume that that would count as the casino being open?

    thanks for the feedback!

  5. getting a late start on trying to plan a pub crawl/poker run for our group of 9 sailing this coming week.

I'm using an older post of the dailies to plan what bars and having trouble finding 5 bars open at 1pm or 2pm on the first full sea day.

can't find any info on whether or not the new rooftop has its own bar and what time they open if they do have their own bar.

I have the Mast Bar, Sunset Bar, Pool Bar and the Casino bar open at that time in the afternoon. I'm short a bar!!

I'm planning for an afternoon 'run' so everyone can have time to change/nap before dinner that evening.

any thoughts on my 5th bar!

    cheer!

  6. ship leaves at 4pm, MUST be checked in by 2:30pm?

several cruises with X and don't recall ever a MUST check in time.

we aren't arriving in NJ until noonish. speaking with X by phone, is telling us that we have to be checked onto the ship by 2:30. is this something new? as I stated above don't recall this happening before.

thanks in advance for your input.

  7. why in heavens name do you want to know?

what difference does it make? why would you take the time to post "zero" information and back handedly insult the OP.

OP, not sure if the info will be there but go to the search feature and search for GAMBEE. I know he posts all menus for the ships that he has sailed on and his reviews are some of the most entertaining I've read.

    safe travels!

  8. i try to not over react to these things but it really gets to me sometimes.

IF THE SMOKE BOTHERS YOU.... HERE'S A THOUGHT.... AVOID THE SMOKING AREA!

I've been on elevators with men/women before that must have bathed in aftershave/cologne. this doesn't make it polite to wave my hand in front of my face or cough or any such reaction. for some reason people seem to think that these behaviors are ok when dealing with a smoker.

if I am in a smoking area and someone walks through holding their nose or making snide comments I'm likely to do nothing. oh but if you could read my mind!

ok, sorry about that but for goodness sake, avoid the smoking area.

  9. 3 X cruises.

first, Alaska, 25th anniversary, partner booked a suite. should mention that this was also first cruise on any line. first cruise, Alaska, suite, anniversary...... what's not to love!

second X, Bermuda, booked Aqua. loved taking meals in Blu. never had a meal in the MDR.

third X, Bermuda, booked Aqua. 123 promo and Blu were the deciding factors.

couple of HAL cruises, always with a balcony.

    1 Carnival, balcony. never again.

don't know that I would ever cruise without a balcony regardless of the room grade. I start and end everyday on my balcony!

    cheers!

  10. enjoying your review. we've booked the summit (for the second time) to Bermuda (for the second time) for may of 2016. we've never booked that far out before and you review is certainly keeping my anticipation level up.

like you I am a beer drinker while my partner is more of a mixed drink drinker!

last time on the summit, 2013, we purchased the premium drink package and knew right away that we had made the right decision.

our daily routine on board always included a few martini's at the martini bar. I would highly recommend the premium package on your next voyage!

thanks again for taking the time to post.

  11. We are also booked for May 2016. When in May are you going?

may 1. generally don't like to post vacation dates but we have an ex-police officer as a house sitter so I feel better about it!

weds., 1 day closer to sail away!

speaking of sail away, my favorite part of every cruise we've ever been on.

  12. We booked last March for this June. Special occasion wanted certain dates, tour... Thought it would never come but just 4 months now!

    Enjoy the planning:)

I see that its an Alaskan cruise. we've been twice now. 1st cruise was on celebrity to Alaska. we loved it so much we took another with friends a few years later.

enjoy and safe travels - em

  13. Perhaps you would like to see our extensive youtube videos for the SUMMIT For Oct 19 through Nov. 1, 2014

found myself rewinding so I could think, "yep, I sat right there" or "that's where I visited with that couple from....." this is gonna be a long wait I'm afraid.

  14. first time we've ever booked this far in advance, May 2016. Sailing on the Summit for the second time to Bermuda for the second time!!

i'll be reading the forum everyday between now and then looking for any and all info on the Summit.

we actually booked the same room as our trip in 2013! took advantage of the early booking, all 3 of the special deals. sure that has name but you know what I'm talking about. drink package, gratuities included and $300 OBC.

well, as the title says, I had to tell someone!

  15. I found your review to be exactly as I would have written. Maybe not so much in agreement on music levels, but that's always a very personal item of opinion. I like loud party (modern, rock, rap, pop) music at the pool all day. I think the pool is for partying, the solstice deck is for quiet relaxing. But I can't fault another for their opinion of course ;-)

Bars WAY understaffed. Only good part, I drank half as much as normal I suppose....

sailed on the Summit earlier this year. had the premium drink package. can't recall having any problems getting our drinks. LOVED the martini bar by the way!

wondering if the lack of bar staff could have anything to do with the above hi-light? easy to offer "free" when you don' t have enough staff to keep up with orders.

regarding the partial quote, sorry to pick and choose the quote. didn't want to clutter up the thread with a full quote. no offense intended.

  16. Sorry, I was trying to ask what craft beers were available. I didn't want to know about the beers such as Bud. Didn't mean to infer that Bud was a craft beer, just a poorly worded question!

just teasing! no beer snob here!

  17. Does anyone know if Blue Moon is sold onboard the Eclipse whilst she is in the Med?

If not, which craft beers are available? (other than Bud etc).

    Thanks

i'm sorry but as a beer drinker/brewer I have to say "bud is not a craft beer." not a thing in the world wrong with it, if that's your taste, but please don't call it a craft beer.

  18. i generally consider myself on vacation the moment i punch out from work that last day. i've always been a little obsessive about the whole unpacking thing and getting things put away before the fun begins.

the past couple of trips i've gone with the "i'll do it later" philosophy and that seems to be working for me!

i have to agree with the donation at the casino asap! sorry to say the first of many.
