  1. Here is a sample letter from Royal's Aussie website:

    http://www.royalcaribbeaninternational.com.au/rcfilelibrary/consent_form_au.pdf

The Consent Form above appears to cover the necessary information, including medical treatment and waivers for activities. Perhaps RCI or your TA can provide a US form for you. I didn't see one on the cruiseline's website, but here is info from the site regarding traveling with a minor. Enjoy your cruise!

What if I'm traveling with a minor and I'm not the parent or legal guardian - Royal Caribbean International Q: What if I'm traveling with a minor and I'm not the parent or legal guardian? A: Adults who are not the parent or legal guardian of a minor traveling with them must present an original notarized letter signed by the child's parent(s), authorizing the adult to take the child on the specific cruise, supervise the child and allow emergency medical treatment to be administered.

s.gifWhat travel documents and identification will I need for domestic sailings - Royal Caribbean International The name of the parent(s) and the child must be linked through legal documentation. Adults who are not the parent or Legal Guardian of any minor child traveling with them are required to present the child's valid passport and visa or the child's birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy) and an original notarized letter signed by at least one of the child's parents. The notarized letter from the child's parent must authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific cruise, must authorize guardian to sign legal documentation/waivers for participation in any activities requiring them (i.e. Rock Climbing, Flowrider, Bungee Trampoline, Inline Skating, or Ice Skating) and must authorize the traveling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical treatment that must be administered to the child.

  2. Actually other cruise lines do use variations of the names, but without "of the seas." For example, Regents has Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Voyager, Seven Seas Navigator, and Seven Seas Explorer. I doubt any other cruiseline would want "of the seas" added to their ship names.

And the newest Regent ship will be christened Seven Seas Splendor in 2020. Close enough to Splendour of the Seas. :)

  3. it says on the web site on transfers the price for a wheel chair adaped vehicle and it more at cost than a transfer why

As long as you are an air/sea guest or purchase cruise-only transfers from RCI, accessible transportation between airport and pier is no extra charge. I'm not seeing anywhere that a w/c adapted vehicle costs more.

Per my previous post, the website info does state that 'Accessible transportation may be limited or not available outside the U.S.'.

s.gifGetting On and Off the Ship Getting on and off the Ship Airport Transportation If requested in advance, Royal Caribbean can arrange for accessible transportation to transfer guests between the airport and the pier. This service is offered at no extra charge to our air/sea guests or those who have purchased cruise-only transfers.

  4. Remember a few years ago about a couple who lost their camera while diving, somewhere in South America, or was it snorkeling? A year or more later it was found and returned to them. Forgotten how they were found but they did get their camera with all pictures returned to them!

Anyone else remember this? Can you fill in my blanks?

This may be a different tale, but Aquahound's is a cool story. He was living in Key West at the time. See the first couple of posts: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1209894&highlight=Lost+camera+turtle.

  5. I lost my prescription sunglasses on a land trip - had them when I left the hotel, didn't have them when we arrived at our restaurant. I though they might have fallen out of my handbag when getting into the car. When we got back to the hotel I asked at the desk if anyone had turned them in and described them. The clerk came back and said "I have good news and bad news. Yes, someone turned in your glasses, but they've been run over by a car!"
    >snip<

:D Kartgv, that is good news and bad! My DH was leaving on a trip to San Francisco and I asked if he'd put a business card in his (prescription) sunglasses case. No, and he didn't bother, so I stuck my card in the case as he was leaving. Lo and behold, he loses the glasses and case during the trip...They both show up a week or so later, in a plain (unpadded) envelope, no return address- and the glasses had broken during transit. Poor Raybans.:(

  6. Nice that you eventually received your Kindle, Markanddonna. On our HAL Alaska cruise I misplaced my prescription glasses, two days before the end of our cruise. I checked on board and with the jetboat shore excursion we'd taken that day...nothing.

Back home, FIVE months later, I got them in the mail at work! (I keep a business card in the case). They were sent by HAL, but no note was enclosed. I have no idea where they were all that time, but it was great to get them back. :)

  7. Not our doing, but our large picture window shattered (on our first cruise, aboard NCL's Windward). We saw it upon returning to our cabin after breakfast. It was fortunately still in place, albeit in a million pieces, and we couldn't see through it.

The Norwegian captain came to our cabin and asked us (with a smile) "Vat did you do to my sheep?!". The window was replaced while we were on our shore excursion that day, and provided no inconvenience to us- just quite a cruise memory! We were surprised to have a bottle of wine and note of apology delivered to us. Btw, it was explained that the window had likely been installed too tightly, and this can happen over time.

  8. Actually I believe that stateroom has the single larger window v. the two smaller portholes.

No worries, leaveitallbehind is correct. Cabin 2018 has a window, not portholes. From the RCI website: Staterooms 3000-3014, 3500-3514, 2008-2014, & 2508-2514 have two portholes instead of a window. Enjoy your cruise, I had the pleasure of sailing on the Grandeur's inaugural back in 1996. Loved it!

  9. If you are driving from Orlando, it's not a huge difference to push on past Ft. Lauderdale to Miami. You're already on the road for 3+ hours. Another 20-30 minutes would not be a big deal to us.

I agree with Bob- and you may want to consider driving to Miami the day before you sail. Stay overnight and relax that evening, and be one of the first onboard in the morning. :)

  10. We are actually cruising out of Port Canaveral but we are driving down the day before. We will be driving A1A from Jacksonville to Port Canaveral so we can enjoy as much beach as possible. We will be arriving in Jacksonville about breakfast time and thought breakfast on the beach would be a great idea

UMMMM .. there are some loose ends here that hopefully you have all sewn up, but I'd be remiss if I did not ask/mention ...

We live near port Canav', and recently attended an event on Amelia Island - taking 95 until CLOSE it was a 3 hour drive on 95 .....

IMO to try and do this on A1A would be a 7 hour drive or MORE . . . .

Driving from Jacksonville to Port Canaveral on I-95 is a distance of 160 miles (around 2 1/2 hrs), and undoubtedly it will be much longer on A1A. Good to be aware of Capt BJ's experience, no fun to miss your ship!

  11. I checked with tripadvisor but they don't show anything for breakfast on the beach. Hoped maybe a local would be on the board and could give us a name. Thanks for your help.

Jacksonville friends of mine like Southern Grounds, a local coffee shop a block away from the ocean. They sell breakfast sandwiches and they like the meat/cheese charcuterie and the spinach salad.

  12. I left some items I would love to get back. Any suggestions on how to achieve this or am I out of luck

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

You can contact RCI's Lost & Found, there is an email link here (within the paragraph): http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqType=faq&faqSubjectId=379&faqSubjectName=Post+Cruise&faqId=3488. It will depend on what items you left behind, as I understand that clothing is something that typically gets donated.

I've only left an item behind once, on HAL, my prescription glasses. (I had contacts for the remainder of the cruise). Five months later the glasses and case showed up in the mail at work (I keep a business card in the case). I have no idea where they were all those months, but nice to get them back. And HAL kindly didn't charge for the postage. :)
