  1. How late is the CVS open??

Not too sure but maybe the website would list? I would think they would be open until at least the time you have to be on the ship. But, don't know if it being Sunday, if that would make a difference. We were there after 6.

  2. It was a little bit pricier than CVS, but definately cheaper than the boat, and you don't have the hassle of carrying the soda/water from CVS and then standing in line for an hour.

On the other hand, we got back on the boat twice and didn't wait more than a few minutes either time. And one of those times was around 2pm. Could just be all in the timing.

  3. Is there any advantage to checking in early, leaving and coming back later

    VS

    Just checking in later?

For us, given that sailaway is so late, it gave us a chance to do some sightseeing. We got to the pier shortly before 11 and checked in right away. We did an embarkation picture and then went to do some walking around Old San Juan. We ended up shopping so we headed back to the ship around 1:30. Had lunch and then rooms were available to drop our purchases off. From there, we went and caught the ferry and did the Bacardi Tour. Got back around 6, stopped at CVS to fill the "pantry" (we make one of the closet shelves our food/drink area :)) and then reboarded for the final time shortly before 7.

The only thing I would note is that CVS was pretty much cleaned out of soda when we were there so it might be something to stop at earlier in the day.

  4. Anybody know anything about Karl Bird on the Victory?

Sailed with him in April and he is my second favorite CD along with Butch. He's out and about on the ship alot, often in the piano bar. A really nice guy also. We made a couple of requests of him and he went out of his way to get them done.

  5. "St. Kitts arrival backed into port, the port side of ship was facing the gangway. The orientation of ship if parallel to pier, but perpendicular to shore. It is a very long dock, and gangway is at far end of ship near front.:

I have enjoyed your review and your pictures.

When I read your quote above, I am concerned that it will be a challenge for my husband who get leg cramps when he walks. Have you been to Roatan ? How do the two piers compare ? That one would have been impossible but the Legend allowed us to borrow a wheelchair and leave it in the shopping area until we returned. I know that wheelchairs are not always available to borrow from the ship so I am gathering information so that we can be prepared.

P.S. I can't remember the easy way to include quotes in the posts so I just cut and paste.

Hope you don't mind me butting in with an answer. :)

If I remember correctly, we ended up walking the entire length of the pier when we debarked in St. Kitts. I would say the walk to where the taxis and such depart from is at least similar to Roatan and possibly a little longer.

  6. Ernesto from our Splendor sailing. This was our Swine Flu cruise and with Mexico being "closed" 2 days into the trip, he was definitely a highlight each evening. Lots of fun! Definitely more fun than sailing to the Mexican Riviera port of San Francisco. :)

I also agree with PP. If they provided exceptional service, you will probably remember their names. Of my sailings, I can only remember the names of a few.

And granted, it was just her first cruise, but my 4 year old niece will still mention "Rudy" out of the blue. She absolutely LOVED him. He was great with her and she would get all smiley whenever she got attention from him.

  7. Well, our room post cruise is taken care of...pre-cruise seems like it might be a little challenging!

Based on what I had read, I had a feeling we could get Sheraton Old San Juan for $70. However, I started out with San Juan, 3.5 stars and $65. That was rejected so I added Cabo Rojo and upped to $70. Bid accepted.

    Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $70.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 1

    Number of Nights: 1

    Room Subtotal: $70.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $15.15 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $85.15 (USD)

  8. Seth Buchwald on the Paradise had us rofl!

Oops...forgot Seth!! Ok, I enjoyed his show. :)

My only "complaint" was that I saw him on both Paradise and Splendor and the Splendor show was very similar to the first time I saw him. Would have been great if he had some new material, though. The Splendor cruise was the swine flu cruise to San Francisco so he got stuck on the ship with us and was a good sport about it.

  9. Thought I would share some feedback on this room in case someone comes searching for it. :)

We stayed in this room for our Mexican Riviera cruise to San Francisco (we were onboard when the CDC issued their travel advisory). It's located under the pizzeria and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone that's a light sleeper. If I didn't have my earplugs with me, I would have been in big trouble. You can pretty much hear chairs moving all night.

One night, it sounded like a elephants moving through so I went upstairs to see how many people were up there and must have been 25-35 people in the area. And this was at 1:20 in the morning. Definitely bring your earplugs for this one. ;)

  10. There is a story that goes with this picture. At 41 my sister had a major stroke. To save her life they had to do surgery and as a result, take out about 1/3 of her skull....it stayed safe in her belly for over a year (because she had a staph infection post op they did not want to put it back too soon) while she recovered. At her most critical moment in the ICU, I held her hand and told her if she would only open her eyes I would take her anywhere in the world she wanted to go....her eyes flew open (the first of many miracles!), and as soon as she came off the ventilator she requested we go on a cruise. So in late April this year, almost 2 years after her stroke, we boarded the Legend with our mom, our other sister, two nieces and my sisters’ best friend. My sister wanted to swim with the dolphins more than anything else, so I scheduled the Royal Swim. Although VERY skeptical when we arrived, given my sisters physical limitations, the staff agreed to "let her try”. This picture was taken during the foot push.....what you can't see are the six women standing in the water watching her, laughing and crying at the same time. Since this day, my sister has continued to recover, expanding her horizons daily; because this moment in time renewed her confidence and made her realize that ANYTHING is possible!

I just happened to decide to check out this thread and I absolutely loved this story and pic! I've had to share it with some of my friends ~ hope you don't mind!

Wishing your sister a continued recovery and many more priceless moments like this!
