Make sure you check the Manhatten cruise terminal website if you plan on parking your vehicle at the pier. They frequently offer coupons. Used them the last 2 cruises on the gem.
Right now there is a coupon for 25% off.

The worst thing about GSC is the line to get a tender BACK to the ship. Standing in the blazing sun on the endless line is no fun. I like to go there later around 1:00 and then stay until the last tender. No lines either way:)
We sail on Saturday and this time everyone wants to go early to GSC. What is the best time to head back to the ship to avoid long lines.

Does anyone know if it is on the Gem?

I am always surprised that the MDR is half empty for lunch the first day. It's like a secret that no one knows about (which I learned about here on cruise critic.). Anything beats walking on the ship then weaving through the masses trying to get a table at lido.
-
It just occurred to me for this problem...
Would it work, at least a bit, to bring along a small baggie with a couple of tablespoons (+/-) of baking soda, and let it dissolve in the first pot and just sit there a while?
No I do not recommend that. You definitely do not want to get questioned about a baggie with a few tablespoons of white powder in your luggage. There is a good chance they would not believe it was baking soda.

Is there a pizzeria section in the buffet area? Also, is any section of lido open for late night snacks?

There are so many changes lately regarding what is on newer mega ships/older ships that it is hard to keep up.
In the past we used to be able to go to one of the MDRs to have lunch when we first got on board the ship. Is this still allowed. I will be on the Gem.

Is the lagoon at GSC reserved for haven/suite passengers, or can anyone go,there. Also, does anyone know where to get an updated copy of a map for GSC because the one on NCL looks outdated (still showing hippo slide which is no longer available.)
Thanks

Same with us on the Jewel in December . Seems like the smaller ships don't get the full continental breakfast.
One would think the smaller ships would provide at least the same menu options since there are less passengers to serve.
-
In December, we were able to get two at a time on UBP... I think it was because the lines were so long!
Standing on line in that heat is no fun. Do they still have the waiters that come around? I remember waiters coming around taking drink orders but can't remember if it was GSC or carnivals private island.

can we use our beverage package to get drinks at Great Stirrup Cay? Also, does Ncl serve coke or Pepsi?

The Aft pool on the Gem has a shallow end (4 foot 11 inches).
I did not know there was an aft pool on the gem. I thought there were the two main pools by the bandstand and a toddler pool. Is this aft pool in the adults only section?
-
I have a question regarding the gem main pool with the waterslide. I know that the depth is 5'9" at the end of the pool, but I wanted to know if there is a shallower part that is less than 5 ft. Since this is the pool that most of the older kids use, I am hoping that there is at least some part of the pool to stand in for nonswimmers. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

My dad took his first cruise on NCL Jewel when he was 81. It only took me decades to convince him the cruise ships were nothing like the steamer ships he took when he came to the US. What was he most impressed with?......... that there were bathrooms and showers in each cabin because apparently when you sailed third class or steerage or whatever they called it back then, bathrooms were shared:eek:
No age is too old for cruising!

Thanks to cruise critic I just found out the other day that you can purchase a bottle of liquor through room service. Is there a way to find out the liquor menu for room service?
I just want to know if there are more options than what is available at Bon Voyage. Thanks
-
Thanks so much!

I have a $100 room credit from Carnival. I want to use it to buy something from Bon Voyage, and tried to do it on-line, but it only gives you the option to enter your credit card info. Is it possible to use the room credit for Bon Voyage? Do I have to call up to do it? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks.

Sadly the "fun ships" aren't as fun as they used to be.

I am loving your review with the great pictures!!
I have a quick question regarding your forward cabin location. Was there lots of movement up there? I have had many midship and aft cabins, but had to book one forward cabin on the Splendor for 8/4, and don't know what to expect.
Thanks.

If passengers miss the ship, guess who has to pack their stuff...the room steward, as if they are not busy enough. I bet the packing WONT be done with TLC:eek:

Saw your post and was curious...if you actually google "carnival splendor cabin 6307" and click on the images tab...there are several pictures that someone posted of that cabin.
Thank you.

There are a series of large square shaped interior staterooms on the upper deck of Splendor that do not appear anywhere else on the ship. Staterooms numbered 6287 to 6307 are square shaped and look to be much bigger than the other interior rooms. However, they are listed in the same square footage/category as the other interiors on this deck.
Also, I did not notice rooms in this location on the other decks. If you go up to deck 7 or 8, there are no rooms at all in this location, it is just blank space on the deck plan.
Does anyone have pics or info about these rooms? We need to quickly change a room with 4 into two interiors and these look great on the deck plan, but might not look great upon boarding.
Thanks.

Hey something to look forward to in 33 years
It may be 5 cents by then due to inflation or rising fuel costs....:p

Definitely bring her. I think she would have lots of fun. I think they serve hot chocolate to kids during tea time if they want it. Enjoy your trip!

After the renovations, will the lagoon be for haven/suite passengers only?
