  1. In my opinion and having cruised all over the world… Alaska is unique in that a lot of what you can see cruising is not available otherwise. There is so much beauty there and getting off the ship and exploring is fantastic. However, I am not always a fan of cruise sponsored excursions. Yes, I know if you are delayed, the ship will not wait for you. Yes, that is a risk. But there are so many opportunities that are not crowded with large groups. We actually rented a car at Skagway and drove up to the Yukon. I found about that idea from cruise critic. It was a wonderful way to explore and the highlight of our cruise. Alaska is one of our favorite destinations while cruising and hope to do another soon.

  2. We are sailing aboard the Celebrity APEX arriving at 5:00 p.m. on 9/13 and departing 5:00pm 9/14. I can find half day Medoc or St. Emillion  tours but they depart Boudreaux at 9:00 am and just cannot figure out how to get there in time, plus worried about ship departure at 5:00. Any alternative ideas? The ship offers a cognac tour and La Rochelle city tour so I guess we should not plan to visit Bordeaux?

  3. We have cruised here and stayed here a few times and our ship will stop by week after next. Have done the Bacardi thingy, have visited the fort several times, and really do not want to sit on a beach all day. Any recommendations for a late lunch and good local shopping/people watching?

  4. I have enjoyed the Premium package in the past and plan to upgrade my 123 incentive Classic to Premium aboard the Century this weekend to Alaska.

    Why? Choice is why.

I love the higher grade brands and exotic Martini's available to me at the Premium level. Plus, if I do want to try something over the per drink allowance, I only pay the difference and not the entire drink fee. So a nice 20 year old Tawny Port after dinner becomes very attractive when it only costs a few dollars more instead of the entire fee, which you will pay if you only have the Classic package.

  5. We sailed on the Equinox recently and had the premium package. The difference was the higher per drink price (necessary for anything at the Molecular Bar) and the ability to simply "pay the difference" for anything above that threshold if you went over the premium per drink maximum. Example... I wanted a 20 year tawny port after dinner and it was $15, I think. As a premium package holder, I was only charged $3 as opposed to paying the entire price of the drink if it exceeded the Classic beverage package allowance. And there is no carryover... If you do not drink one day, you do not get reimbursed. Even though it is broken down as a per diem charge, it covers the entire cruise. With the premium juice, coffee/espresso and water options, it is very easy to almost hit the price per day without even hitting a bar.

  6. We have traveled this way and it certainly was inexoensive. Easy... Depends on the amount of luggage, your stamina and whether you are traveling with whiney kids. The walk from the station to the ship was not bad at all. We did take the taxi from the ship to the station, however.

We are booking our next cruise aboard the Equinox for the Sept. 24th sailing and will probably take the train again. This time sans enfants but still with plenty of luggage.
