  1. Thank you, all. We do tip above and beyond but most of our cruises have been on Royal Caribbean or Carnival and not as "high caliber" as Silversea. This would be our retirement gift to each other and I would not want to seem unappreciative to the crew. We are not wealthy and we are not living paycheck to paycheck. We would just want to splurge a little.

  2. Hello.

My wife and I have been on sixteen cruises between five different cruise lines. Future Cruise Credits for Silversea that we may be looking to use. We have not yet sailed Silversea. I emailed Silversea directly asking about gratuities. The reply stated that gratuities are included in the fare. We generally tip above and beyond pre-paid gratuities on the other cruise lines. What may be a respectable "above and beyond" gratuity for crew members aboard a Silversea ship?

    Thank you,

    John.

  3. i'm a little ticked off with Carnival. when we were notified that the ship was switched to the Venezia we were told that our steak house reservations would be transfer. after a few weeks i still did not see our reservations on our cruise planner. i contacted Carnival as well as CruCon (which i had our reservations transferred to and received double onboard credits). CruCon said that Carnival canceled our steak house reservations and issued a refund. i contacted my wife and asked if we rec'd a $252 credit. she said no. i called the credit card company and reviewed my activity, there was a credit of $168 on 11/16 and $84 on 12/1. my wife was looking for the full amount i guess. anyway, i was never informed of the cancellations and am glad i was able to rebook today. also, my wife is still a little pissy that i didn't check online EVERY day and get reservations for the Chef's Table dinner.

  4. Sorry - I misinterpreted your question. I thought you would be paying more. If you're saving $1000 I'd definitely go for it! It's a very good balcony - much better than than the Grand Suite balcony. We love aft wraps. In fact on one cruise we ended up switching from an aft wrap (not a suite) and adjoining cabin to a Grand Suite because Carnival offered us the price of the adjoining cabin as on-board credit. We had booked the cruise for the cabin, so we ended up saving quite a bit by switching.

not a problem, Kathy. the wife does not step foot on the balconies. she has no interest other than having me drape swimwear and beach towels over deck furniture to dry.

by the way, where are you in upstate NY? we are 17 miles south of the NY/PA border between Elmira and Owego.

  5. The premium vista suites(aft wraps) are often the cabins in highest demand because of the large balcony and there are very few of them.

thanks to everyone for your opinions.

There are benefits to keeping your grand suite though(space, tub, priority check in). Which is cheaper? I'd go with that one.

the Grand Suite is a grand more (pun intended) than the Vista Suite and is only about 45 square feet larger. both, the Vista and Grand Suites have priority check in as well as jacuzzi tubs (which the wife will no longer do without). although we both are early risers, 5 am while on vacation is a bit too early.

  6. i am considering switching from a mid ship Grand Suite to an aft facing Vista Suite on the Carnival Pride. the price difference is nearly $1,000 for about 45 less square feet of room. why such a difference is pricing? will there be a lot of vibration from the propellers?
