If you have transfers from the river cruise line, or are taking a post-cruise extension, they will ask that you put your bags outside your cabin – in the morning.  They have no place to store them overnight, so they wait until the van arrives that is going to transport the bags.

Thank you and to Cobbie48 for your quick replies. Our cruise finishes in Dijon then we have 2 nights in Paris as part of the overall holiday. We catch a TGV  from Dijon to Paris. That's good to know about the bags as a holdall for overnight stuff is one less thing to pack!!

  2. We are doing our first river cruise in July - on the Rhone. Having done several ocean cruises we know the format on the last night - luggage outside your stateroom by a certain time. This means we pack a holdall for our overnight things etc. to walk off with. Does this also apply to river cruises or in view of fewer passengers do we just disembark with all our luggage?

Thanks in anticipation of an answer.

  3. Came off Quest earlier this month. Had 4044 no problems, bed facing aft. We had several tender ports so only noise was the tenders being winched down in readiness to take guests ashore. However, we were usually awake when this happened. Would book it again as it is very handy for either of the elevators to the upper decks and for Deck 3 when tendering.

Also had 8051 on the Quest 2 years ago. This is an interior stateroom with the bed facing aft. Very quiet we did not hear much noise from above. Chose this stateroom as we had visited most of the ports before - Scandinavia and Baltic so were not really bothered about lack of direct view outside. We would choose an interior stateroom again, however, it would depend on the itinerary.

  4. Hi

We recently came off Journey, stateroom 4044. We had as someone else describes a love seat rather than a sofa in that the back was curved rather than straight. We never sat on it together but 2 people could sit on it. The TVs is flat screen and on the wall opposite the bed.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  5. We were on this voyage too and were just about to leave Windows Cafe when the ship make a sharp turn resulting in crashing crockery. At no time did we feel that we were in a dangerous situation. To me it made breakfast a little more exciting!

Captain Carl announced the following day at 11am that the ship had had an incident the previous day when entering Picton. The channel we were entering port through is renowned for cross tides and the pilot over compensated for the cross tide he was expecting. The cross tide did not occur and the ships' crew had to make a swift decision by taking control of the vessel from the pilot. This resulted in minor scrape marks on the hull and a little damage to the port propellor. The ship was not compromised in any way and AZ was not at fault.

Others later mentioned the excess noise when the ship continued its journey but down on Deck 4 where our stateroom was my wife and I didn't notice any difference.

We berthed in Auckland on 31 January on schedule and the ship is currently on it's return cruise to Sydney. So the Picton experience does not seem to have affected the sailing schedule. Picton is a port of call on the current cruise.

  6. We just received the email:

Hello, this is Azamara Club Cruises. In early December we provided you with information on a change in terminal in Sydney, Australia on January 15, 2016. With this notification we wanted to confirm that your check-in for the Azamara Quest will be at the White Bay Cruise Terminal, with access via James Craig Road, Rozelle. We are asking that all guests are checked in at the White Bay Cruise Terminal no later than 5:00 pm. As your first night of the voyage is overnight in Sydney, we also want to make sure you enjoy your time there, so at 6:00 pm the ship will depart from the White Bay Cruise Terminal and move to the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay which is in the heart of Sydney adjacent to the famous Sydney Opera House. The ship will remain at Circular Quay until 5:00 pm on January 16, 2016, at which time the Azamara Quest will depart Sydney for your voyage to Auckland, New Zealand.

    Hi Bonnie

I've just seen this on the forum. Sorry to be a pain but is there anyway you can find out how long the transit from White Bay to the OPT will take? We are having dinner with friends at their house in Sydney on the 15th and we are wondering whether to "escape" the ship before it leaves White Bay or wait until it berths at the OPT. I presume that shortly after it has docked at the OPT we can get off the ship. If we go to their house from the OPT it will be a more pleasant journey as we can take a ferry which will go under the bridge Thanks

  7. Sydney port timetable shows Quest at white Bay, in Jan sorry.

I know it does but my documentation from AZ says Circular Quay. My TA checked with AZ yesterday and they confirmed it as Circular Quay not White Bay. Now slightly confused!

  8. Hello everyone

I have been told by AZ and confirmed by my TA that the ship will not be berthing at White Bay and will be at the Overseas Passenger Terminal by Circular Quay in the shadow of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. So the question of shuttles raised with Bonnie no longer comes into play.

  9. Hi Taniacat, if this is so it is good news!

Here's what I've received this morning....

"So far we can confirm that the ship's berth will be in port of Chalmers and there will be shuttle bus service provided (30 minutes drive each way). We have not received drop off point location yet."

Thanks Bonnie and Taniacat for your replies. That's where I thought the drop off point will be. Bonnie, if you hear otherwise please could you post a reply, thanks.

    Best wishes David

  10. Hi Bonnie

    Happy New Year

My wife and I are booked on the Quest sailing from Sydney to Auckland which arrives in Dunedin on 25th January. I've established that the ship will berth at Beach Berth in Port Chalmers. Do you know where the ship's shuttles will drop people off in central Dunedin? Will it be at The Octagon near the Tourist Info. Office? We are planning to catch up with a friend and if we can get to downtown Dunedin it will make her journey easier to meet us. Thanks.

  11. Glad to hear from Bonnie that there will be a shuttle in Sydney. We like to explore on foot whenever possible and the prospect of taking taxis whilst in Sydney does not appeal to us. After all as someone has already pointed out the ship is our hotel so why pay for a night in one when we have already paid for it!!

  12. Hi David.... what sports pool activities... other sports activities (yoga? pilates?)... Other than sports are any lessons offered? for example saw on the website there may be keyboard lessons.... Was there a midnight buffet? I can't think!!! Thanks!!

    Hi

Yes there are pilates and yoga classes, however, you have to pay $10. There were cookery demos, napkin folding demos and bridge tips as well as dancing classes. I can't see any mention of keyboard lessons. There is plenty to do, more on sea days. There were a couple of times I had to make a decision on what to do as two things I would like to have done clashed. There were also light hearted lecutres on some of the ports of call.

The only buffet was on Day 8 when we left Livorno. It was a "Surf's up Buffet" which followed a pool party. There was no gala buffet nor a chocolate one. We sailed on Jewel to the Baltic last year and they had both those buffets. Someone told us it was a cost cutting exercise!

    Best wishes

    David
