  1. We sailed on Anthem in August and had Dynamic Choice Dining. We made a few reservations before we sailed, and a few while onboard. We did not have any issues with reservations nor did we wait to be seated at any time.

The only places we had to wait were in Chops and Jaime's.

The food was ok. We didn't care much for American Icon or Silk but we didn't go hungry either. Enjoy your cruise!!

  2. I know many cruisers were not happy with Dynamic Dining initially, so Royal responded by adding Dynamic Choice. I thought this was the best of both worlds - classic for those who want a set dining time and choice for those who wanted some flexibility. To read that choice is going away as well as the rotating dining rooms is sad to me. I thought one of the goals for Anthem was to provide a different dining experience? Now it appears it will be the same as most of not all of the other ships in the fleet. I am glad that I got to experience Dynamic Choice on my recent cruise. We made reservations in advance, but they were very easy to change once on board or even through the Royal IQ app. We also never waited more than 2 minutes for a table - except in Chops but that's a different story. :D

  3. Great review! I was on this sailing as well.

We enjoyed 270 on Embarkation day and were lucky to get there before a line formed.

I saw the other post about being delayed in Saint John and wondered when did that happen? We got off of the ship very easily without delay.

I do have to agree with the other reviewer about the announcements in the Windjammer. We heard them on 2 separate days and it was indeed hard to find a table. So they did ask people to leave when done eating at least twice.

We also had breakfast in Grande one day and it was pretty bad! That was the first and last time we had breakfast away from the Windjammer.

It was a great cruise! Anthem is beautiful and I truly enjoyed our ports of call.

  4. I am so nervous.....sailing Royal Caribbean for the first time in over 10 years.....My family never went back because we were so disappointed in the food......Windjammer (food was never warm/hot) and main dining room food was not too good...

How many pools? Were they crowed? Was the weather good? We will be sailing this time nxt year.

Do you have to reserve entertainment?

Don't be nervous! You're going on a cruise vacation so think happy thoughts and enjoy it!!

The Windjammer was better than I thought it would be. We went for breakfast everyday and lunch twice.

The pools were not very crowded and there seem to be plenty of space for everyone. I did not see the pools every day, but when I did, they were not crowded. Really loved the solarium. It was quite spacious and tons of loungers were available.

We reserved entertainment but it was not really necessary. If you had reservations you went into one door of the Royal Theater. If you didn't have reservations, you went in another door. When we went to We Will Rock You they weren't really checking reservations.

Enjoy your cruise! Anthem is different, but beautiful.

  5. I agree with everyone else. Unfortunately, this part of NJ is industrial and not very attractive. Stay on the ship, have breakfast and depart as late as they will allow. Even if you took a taxi to a near-by mall, I would not want to take the chance of being stuck in traffic to get to the airport and miss my flight. Too many things can go wrong in this area. Have a great time on the Anthem!!! We board her in October and cannot wait! :)

I can't wait either!!! We sail 2 weeks from Thursday. Enjoy your cruise :)

  6. Guess it depends on what you want to see do, plenty of private services can take you anywhere you want.

We had a very late flight out of lga. We did rccl excursion just to past time. Was much better and more enjoyable than I set my expectations for.

We are now leaning towards the excursion! Good to hear that it's enjoyable.

  7. Not really any other options - no place to store luggage.

Be one of the last ones off the ship. Go to the airport and have a leisurely lunch. TSA lines can be bad at EWR, so you want to be going through security no later than 2 PM.

Thanks Carol. That's what we may end up doing.

  8. We (my mother and I) are sailing on Anthem August 25, returning on September 3. Our flight out of EWR isn't until 3:30 p.m. The idea of spending 6+ hours in the airport is not very appealing! Are there tours/things to do available other than the 1 excursion offered by Royal Caribbean?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  9. 3 months have passed since this cruise and still no contact from RCI. This was an absolutely dreadful example of RCI's onboard security just not caring about the safety of its elderly passengers. We were confronted by what can only be described as a gang of roughly 10+ children aged from about 9-16 who made the cruise an absolute misery. It was impossible to watch the 10pm late night movie as these children quite deliberately yelled, swore and carried on in and around the pools and spas. They would come down en masse and take over the spas either not letting others in or making it impossible to remain in the spa. Many people gave up watching the movies due to the noise and intimidation. Elderly passengers in particular were sworn at if they asked for quiet or were intimidated in other ways. The situation escalated after several of us complained to Security. The group would literally surround us in the Theatre, sitting next to us, behind and in front of us, constantly talking and making disgusting comments about the elderly. One elderly passenger was 'accidently' hit in the back of the head, another was threatened with a bashing while an elderly couple were jostled causing the woman to fall over. There were many, many like incidents. This group roamed the ship at all hours with no regard to a curfew. Several reports were made to Guest Services who contacted Security. We saw a Security Officer sitting at the bar across from GS and asked him about curfew times. We were told there was no curfew which is not what was advertised in the Cruise Compass. After a few more incidents we got to talk to the 'suit' Security who told us that they had already spoken to the parents and were too busy with other incidents onboard to be able to monitor the situation as they didn't regard it as a high priority. Eventually, on the last 2 nights, Security did start taking some notice but many of us were still harassed by having our photos taken, being followed around the ship and even being abused by one of the parents. I want to point out that there were some lovely children onboard who absolutely did the right thing. I was extremely unhappy with the ineffectiveness and uncaring attitude of the Voyager's security team. Some of them actually seemed sacred of the group of children. My safety, and that of other elderly passengers, was compromised by the inability of the Security staff to control the behaviour of this group. Why was that?

What has been described here is unacceptable! People were harassed and a woman was knocked over. Suggesting that people cruise when school is in session doesn't sound like much of a solution to me. I was on a cruise where part of a group was kicked off for bad behavior. Royal needs to be consistent in handling people who don't know how to conduct themselves properly.
