  1. My sister and I want to cruise out of Galveston (royal carribean). She lives in Denver and I live in NY. There's ONE flight a day from JFK to HOU so I was thinking I'd take that and then on my way back fly out of IAH. So, first of all, are there any recommendations as to where to stay the night before the cruise? Galveston Island seems RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Secondly, any recommendations for transportation to/from the port and airport/hotel? thank you so much in advance

  2. So, my suitcase was pullled and I had to go down to the 'naughty room' to retrieve it because I was caught smuggling in a power extension/strip cord (I wasn't sure if there were enough outlets to charge everything - this was a power strip with multiple outlets). When I went to retrieve my power cord at the end of the cruise, I saw an assortment of things that made sense to bring - irons, power cords etc. But what set me wondering was the full set of kitchen knives - why on earth would you need that on a cruise? any ideas?

  3. I just came off the adventurer of the seas and went on this tour. I'm glad I did it, but I didn't like the way it was done. You do get to see the galley, bridge, engine room, laundry and 'I-95' (a hallway that runs the length of the ship underneath floor 1 where guests don't go.

However, after the galley tour the 'head' of the 'head waiters' came to talk to us and spent about 40 minutes bloviating about his philosophy of service. Then, when we got to the bridge, we got another very long talk by the guide about the various dimensions, azipods etc. I wish that instead they had us sitting for each of these talks, or that they just do away with the head waiter discussion. I feel like the tour could be cut down to about an hour - at least for me, I just wanted to see the areas and didn't need need a technical description of how the azipods work and all that. But maybe that's me

  4. hello. I"ll be on the QM from southampton to NY, disembarking in Brooklyn. My questions are:

    1) I'll have only one large and one small suitcase, and I'm thinking it's easier to take them off myself. Is that possible?

    2) Alternatively, if I decide to put my luggage out the night before (I assume that's the way it's done as on other cruise ships), how much of a hassle is it to retrieve the luggage?

    3) Since the ship is going to continue on to a different port, am I kicked off at a certain time, or can I take my time getting off the ship, like 10 am? What time would be best to arrange for car service?

    thanks in advance

  5. Carnival pizza is the best at sea I think. And I would sail them again just for the chocolate melting cake. Buffet is better on RCCL. I think, as far as MDR food goes, that is a matter of what you prefer. I prefer vegetarian, and RCCL is much, much better than carnival as far as vegetarian choices. In fact, there were times when I had trouble finding something to eat on Carnival, since I am allergic to alot of foods (mostly animal products - beef, veal, shellfish, turkey, pork). RCCL has Johnny Rockets which was very nice. I really like the activities on RCCL much, much better, especially since I travel with a teen. It seems that meat eaters really like Carnival food alot, but I thnk RCCL does much better with the variety of dishes offered.
