  1. Gato, I wanted to thank you so much for making this part of your signature:

You see, I am organizing a Cruise Critic Meet and Greet on the Norwegian Gem cruise from Nov 23-Dec 3, and these are some great ideas for a White Elephant Gift Exchange I want to try. So thank you.

No problemo [emoji6] it's easier than having to type it again each time someone wants to join lol

  2. 20 groups 'in the know' leave the tender landing

19 stop at Eden and do their thing - very enjoyable snork' but sometimes bumping into others from the ships .

1 goes the extra 1/2 mile to Sunset House

    does not see another cruiser

non-snork's use the pool (no pool at Eden ...)

all enjoy "My Bar" (IMO WAY better than P' Grill ... but P'Grill ain't BAD)

    .>.>.>.

Teach me the way Captain BJ, how's the reef life there?

  3. Snorkeling. Best snorkeling ever. PERIOD. Snorkeled off West Bay and Maya Key. Love it. I was just there last week and I'm ready to go back. Actually, I didn't want to leave. Lol.

any more info about your experience? Any pictures of the sea life?

    thanks :)

  4. In Grand Cayman when you get off the tender turn to your right and walk to Eden Rock for very good shore snorkeling.

Cozumel, take a cab to The Money bar for 10.00 p/p. Its free here if you buy some food and drinks.

Is Eden rock a beach? Would you say it's rocky or sandy there? How far out from the shore would I have to go?

I've been told about the money bar so I'm going to check it out for sure. Thanks for the recommendations!

  5. Hey guys i'll be visiting Grand Cayman aboard the liberty next month and the wife and I have decided to do break in our brand new gear with some snorkeling at each port of call.

For some of the ports we have an excursion planned so we'll have limited time to snorkel but we still want to try.

The catch is we are wanting to go out on our own for the snorkeling. So my question to the seasoned vets out there is where are the good snorkeling spots in cozumel for those that want to go out on their own? Also i'm trying not to do an excursion because I just don't want to shell out the extra cash just to go snorkeling, so the lower the price the better :D

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

  6. Chankanaab is the best snorkeling I've done. The catch is it is $21 per person entry fee, plus the cab ride ($13 each way up to 4 people, IIRC). There is a wonderful snorkel area, a decent "beach" area, tons of shaded chairs, a decent restaurant, beautiful gardens, animal exhibits and upsells like Dolphin swims or zip lining.

However, my money goes to Money Bar. The cab ride is $8 each way up to 4 people, and they let you use their facilities, beach chairs (though no true beach, just sandy area) for free. It is polite to buy a drink or snack, but they are very reasonably priced (we did 4 smoothies and a plate of nachos for $25.) Lots of the snorkel tours actually drop off at Money Bar as one of their stops.

Chankanaab has a sign saying life jackets (nor snorkel vests, I saw people wearing them but could never figure out where they got them) are manadatory- and they will give you a free one in exchange for an ID, but when we asked they said they just recommended them and didn't require us to wear them. Both locations will rent you gear.

Thank you for the recommendations Skittl, i've been to Chankanaab before and the snorkeling was good there, it's one of the places i'm still considering but was hoping to avoid because its going to cost me almost $30 bucks to go snorkeling when all i want to do is snorkel. It's not that it's expensive, but i didn't want to spend the extra mula if I didn't have to.

Hows the actual snorkeling at Money bar? If it's good then i agree that it's the better deal.

  8. I just booked Stingray Sailing for their Catamaran stingray and snorkel tour. Highly recommended from someone on my roll call who has used them 3x already and rebooking on our trip. I love the idea of the catamaran and less people.

We used Moby Dick in March for the snorkle/sting ray city tour. Had a great time and the guys on the boat were a hoot, and very helpful. I would use them again in a heartbeat!

We are using NativeWay in June based on feedback from this board. We used Captain Marvin on a previous trip and they were great. Nothing outstanding, but the trip was enjoyable. NativeWay will drop you off at 7-mile beach if you want to stroll the beach for a few hours before heading back to the ship - which is exactly what we want to do. This way we only have to pay for a one-way taxi/bus ride !

Hey guys I want to do plenty of snorkeling and spend plenty of time with the Rays. How long were you guys there actually snorkeling and playing with rays?

  9. One of the funniest things i ever saw/experienced on cruise was when me and a group of friends went about the paradise on a 7 day out of miami (back when it was a non smoking ship)

It was the first night and we had had a very busy day and were pooped out. I was in my cabin and they were playing Castaway (with tom hanks) and i had never seen it, and really liked it. Well the next day while playing ping pong one of the balls got loose and i caught it before it went overboard and i noticed it had a couple of dents on it. It was then when the idea hit me... this was no ordinary ball. It was wilson reincarnated!

To make a long story short, for the next 6 days i took the ball with me every where (including the onboard activites, dining room, on stage 3 times, and to the rex disco) and it had become such a big thing that the entertainers on board would stop there act to ask to see "wilson". I also had random strangers recognizing me and asking to take pictures with wilson or if they could dance with wilson.

It was a very weird experience but extremely funny and one that i will never forget.

By the way we were referred to as "The Miami Crew" because we would sit in the front row every night for the shows, we always volunteered and we were the loudest lol.
