    another follow up question,

Since I'm now Aqua Class, and I'm booked in Blu for 830 dining, are we allowed to go to the MDR for anytime dining for dinner?  or are our only options Blu, Specialty restaurants, or the buffet?

It only says 8:30. You don’t have to go at that time. It’s just walk in and there are no reservations required. You will love it food is fabulous. In addition if there is something you want from the main dining room your waiter will get it for you. It’s also open for breakfast but I think serving times are limited.

  2. You can try to work on getting a refund further with a phone call. BUT, accepting the 15% refund on the day of was your mistake. There is nothing more now that they owe you. You can of course come on here to critique the excursion. That's your best recourse.

I think you could easily have received 50% back that same night with a few words to the right person. And what REALLY would have helped is if you had more people to join in.

Having liquor available does NOT describe this a "typical" booze cruise. That argument would fall in the "meh" category.

That’s not correct. I accepted 50% on the Equinox wrote a letter when I returned and was given a $200 or $100 when I get back from corporate. They did contact me. I followed up with them. All 12 in my group got it.

  3. I agree Pete, I've said a few times here that I cannot tell the difference in what people actually wear between a Casual and Smart Casual night.

Can you please give me some guidance on this. Did they change the dress code to include shorts in the main dining rooms or not. The website has no mention of this. My husband likes to wear silk Tommy Bahama shorts with a button down shirt to dinner. He wore the shorts last year on the Anthem and it was perfectly fine. On the formal nights he wore a suit. I would like to make sure I pack the right things for our next cruise which is very soon. Thanks in advance.

  4. Thanks for the info. We took a trip to St John. Several of us are handicapped. It was listed as a mild trip to Trunk Bay 6 hours. We were forced to walk 2 miles with canes to the ferry boat. There was no tour guide leading us, there was hardly enough room for us to sit. The ferry ride was not narrated. When we arrived the cab driver drove us through a rain forest and then dropped us at Trunk Bay and told us he wasn't coming back for us so if we stayed we would have to pay to get back to the pier. There was only 1 return ferry leaving at 4. We paid $75a person for this trip. Never got to see the beach. Had to walk 2 miles back to the ship on return. The tour operator stopped in the middle if the ocean to try and sell us his tee shirts. We complained and got 30% back. Unacceptable to us. They recently changed their touring company. All complained not just our group of 12. We are all 63-73. Trip lasted 7.5 hours and we never saw the beach. Our day was ruined. Tour desk manager was rude.

  5. I recently returned from a 10 dal sale on the Equinox. Although we had a great time on the cruise we had a terrible experience on a ship sponsored shore excursion and I would like to send a letter to corporate detailing our experience. Can someone please provide me with the name and address of whom I should be sending my letter to. Thanks in advance.

  6. Shorts are over looked the first evening of the Cruise in the MDR. We sailed on the Eclipse April of this year and I wore shorts the first evening in the MDR. On my way out of the MDR the Maitre D stopped me and very politely advised me that shorts in the MDR in the evening for the remainder of the Cruise will not be acceptable. No problem as I dress IAW the suggested dress guidelines after the first evening. On the third evening there was a father and his teenage boy walking into the MDR in front of my wife and me. The same Maitre D that stopped me stopped them and told them they would need to change into long pants to eat in the MDR in the evenings and denied them entry to the MDR. That was my experience. Take it for what it's worth.

Thank you. I assumed they were not permitted. My husband usually wears dockers and a nice shirt. The fact that you can now wear jeans especially on formal night has me confused. He thinks that jeans are too heavy.

  7. Can someone advise if dress shorts and a button down collard shirt are allowed in the MDR on the Equinix. We recently sailed on the Anthem of the Seas and it was permitted. Husband would like to bring his silk Tommy Bahama shorts.

Thanks. Haven't sailed Celebrity since they changed the dress code. Sailing to Caribbean.

  8. Can someone help me. I am sailing on Celebrity from Port Everglades and need a car to get to Boca Raton or Palm Beach. I will be flying out of Palm Beach when I go home so I need to drop the car off at WBP Airport. Does anyone know if I can get a shuttle ride to Fort Lauderdale Airport to pick up a car. Or is there anywhere I can go to get one which is closer. Which companies offer the shuttle from the port.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Hi all!

I'm going on Anthem on August 6th! I want to be excited, but I keep reading negative reviews of the ship. I went on Liberty last year and loved it! Any advice on my nerves? We booked everything on the cruise planner and just hoping for the best!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I felt the same way and almost cancelled. I sailed recently with a large group and we all loved the ship and had a great time. The ship is gorgeous. The entertainment was stellar snd the food was pretty good. Some nights the food was better that other nights but we didn't have one bad meal. We ate at Jaimes and Chops which we all loved. We all booked again for next year. You will love it.

  10. If there is one on this site's review section that causes me confusion is the Anthem of the Seas (and Quantum class vessels) rating amongst cruisers.

I am sailing on Anthem of the Seas in January coming for 12 nights to the Caribbean (and I WILL be going on it as I am not letting the reviews putting me off) however there is some things I do want to ask regarding Anthem of the Seas that kind of puzzle me: -

    1) Reservations - what's the dealio with this? One thing I have noticed is in order to improve your experience on Anthem is to get your reservations in early like Dynamic Dining and the Activities etc however I am seeing quite a lot of mentions of reservations either going wrong or losing them completely so what I want to know is how did others do their reservations? Did they do them online or call Royal Caribbean prior to sailing? Or did they wait until they go on the ship and either do them via Royal IQ app on their phone or speaking to Guest Services? Which method yielded best results?

    2) What is the VOOM internet like on this ship in terms of its speed and stability? And that question applies in the stateroom and in public areas... I was on Navigator of the Seas fresh from her instalment of VOOM in May this year and, to put it quite frankly, it reminded me of dial up on a good day and was utterly unusable so ended up cancelling it so hoping this ships VOOM actually works as described!

    3) I know this ship has the WOW bands however am I right in saying that both a) they are chargeable? and if so, how much are they? and b) They don't at all venues on the ship as not all venues on the ship have a portable/compatible reader?

Any food reviews I will be ignoring as food is HIGHLY subjective (someone's interpretation of a dish will vary so significant) so will acknowledge them however I will take their review with a pinch of salt, no pun intended

Voom is fast and works everywhere on the ship.

We made all our reservations for dinner and shows and activities 3 months before sailing. When we got on the ship there was a letter in our room telling us that they took the liberty of making reservations for us in several restaurants. All of ours were at 7 pm. They changed all our times to 5:15. We immediately (group of 6) headed to Guest Services with printed confirmations in hand. The rep, told us nothing was available at the times we requested and my response was that's impossible because I have a written confirmation from Royal that my selected times were available 3 months prior. Guess what. I got all my original times and locations back.

I was given 2 free wow bands and they seemed to work everywhere. Very convenient not having to pull a card out all the time.

PS. Loved the ship. Ignor the reviews.

  11. Sailed on Anthem in June and had cabin 7646 right near elevator. Best location because it's close to dining venues. After dinner we would walk down to the entertainment venues which gave us time to digest our dinner. Never heard a sound from the elevators. Good location for upper deck pool and windjammer also. Have picked a similar location on deck 9 for my next sail.

Loved the ship. Never felt crowded at all.

  12. I'm not able to pull up much details on this, but if anyone has used the hair dryers provided on Anthem, please let us know how the performance is, and would you recommend just bringing your own? Mine is 1875 watts and I am just a tad bit concerned it may blow the breaker in our cabin.

    Input, please, and thanks.

Mine is 1875 watts and it worked fine last week. The ones in the cabin are typical hotel dryers which take a long time to dry hair. I always bring mine and I have never had a problem.

  13. I have been using this site for the past 7 years. I find it an excellent source of information when planning for a cruise vacation. I have never written a review but I am going to write one now. I cruised on the Anthem of the Seas from June 2-11, 2016. Because the reviews were so poor I almost cancelled but because I was travelling with a group of friends I decided to give it a shot. We are glad we did. We are 61 and 62 and we have travelled with Princess (5), Celebrity (5) and one previous cruise on Royal back in 1990.

We live in NJ so we took a 10-passenger van to the terminal. There was traffic but it wasn’t too bad. Our driver dropped us off and gave the long shore man our bags and when to the attendant for the Ipad check in. From curb to ship it took about 15 minutes.

The ship is gorgeous. Beautiful venues all around. Spectacular artwork. Lots of places to sit and relax. 270 was beautiful.

Following the recommendation of others on this site, we headed to 270 for lunch. It was empty and we had no problem getting a seat. Food was great and we dined there several times during the cruise for breakfast or lunch.

Our cabin was on Deck 7. #7646. Close to the elevator and nicely decorated. There was tons of storage.

After entering our room we saw a letter listing our diner reservations and times. They were all wrong. We spent 3 hours 4 months ago planning everything and every one of them was wrong. We went to the Guest Relations Desk and had them all corrected to the right times after waiting more than an hour. This was the only problem we had all week.

Our days were spent mostly at the pool and solarium which is really peaceful and beautiful. Pool attendants were removing towel in the early hours but not later on in the day. We played a little trivia.

For entertainment we saw The Welcome Show. We Will Rock You – if you are a Queen fan you will love it. Comedians: Jessica Kirson, Rondell Sheridan, Al Ducharme, Ronn Lucas (he was the best). We also saw DSB the Journey Tribute Band, Liars Club, the Marriage Game Show. I participated in the Name that Tune Game which was great.

We also, saw Spectra’s Cabaret, The Gift and a number of shows in the 270 lounge.

We found the entertainment to be exceptional.

For our meals we went to Jaime’s, Chops, Chic, American Icon, the Grande, and Coastal Kitchen (our friends had a suite so they had access and brought us along). We had a few of our breakfasts at Chic and the Grand. The Windjammer was our choice for lunch on a few days. We also had lunch at 270 and at the Solarium Bistro. We dressed semi formally (husband wore jacket and dress pants I wore a nice glittery top and black pants) on the first night at the Grande. We were told that on the first and last nights one could dress casual so we did and there was no problem. My husband wore silk dress shorts and a Tommy Bahama shirt to 4 of the restaurants and there was no issue. On our formal night at the Grande, we observed someone wearing shorts and a tee shirt.

We found the food to be very good. Not as good as Celebrity but not as bad as some of the reviews we read here. The desserts were not that good. The coffee was terrible. I treated my self to gourmet-iced lattes a few times, which were great. We enjoyed all our meals for the most part.

Port Days: Bermuda, spectacular Horseshoe Bay by Taxi $7 pp. St Marten by ferry for shopping and a quick stop at the beach (not enough time to go to Orient), San Juan (stayed on board), and Labadee where we took a ferry to the beach at the end, which was gorgeous. We made the mistake of walking after we got off the ferry instead of taking the shuttle bus, which we did take back to the ship security entrance.

We brought our own wine but I did have a few martinis, which were good.

Service around the ship was pretty good. Sometimes they made mistakes but it wasn’t a big deal.

Our cabin attendant was Janice Young and she was outstanding.

We took advantage of the 1st Day spa sail away special, which was amazing.

We booked the North Star but it was broken and we never made it back to our rescheduled time. My friends did the bumper cars and loved it. I was afraid of hurting my knees.

We were not impressed with the Next Cruise staff. We booked the Anthem again for next year but the staff was not very helpful in our opinion.

We departed the ship at 9:30 am.

Please feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer them.
