  1. My DH and I sailed on Celebrity in November.  When we got to the pier, we were held up a few minutes because when we uploaded our vacc cards, the RCI person who inputted the info into the system mixed up his dates.  They just took a look at his card, updated the info right there and sent us right to the ship for boarding. It was stressful for about 2 minutes.  LOL.  They were checking everyone's vacc and test docs at the pier.

  2. I went through this.  My DH booked us in a concierge class on Edge, thinking it had a real balcony.  Once we realized the mistake, it was a job to change rooms.  I wanted to change from concierge class to sunset veranda.  They would not let me change the existing reservation because it was a "downgrade".  I ended up cancelling the cc room and booking an sv.  The SV cost me almost $500 more.  This was all in the matter of one day.  I was on the phone explaining that the cc rooms have infinite balconies, which we are not interested in.  The rep was arguing with me saying that it clearly says "private balcony" in the room description. It took about 2 hours, but it worked.

  3. One of my favorite parts of a cruise is the dressing for dinner.  I will be bringing sundresses for most evenings, and 1 gown when I sail Edge in November.  I never get to dress up, except for black tie work functions, which are, well, work.  I love to put my gowns to good use.  My husband does not wear a tux, but a navy blue suit.  The rest of the evenings he will wear collared tops with slacks.

Thank you so much for posting this!

our TA just got confirmation from Celebrity that a card from the health care entity administering the vaccine was acceptable, the card does not have to say CDC. Those of us in health care that got vaccinated early have a hodgepodge of cards and I think at least one of the big drug store chains used cards different than the CDC ones.

So true.  My DH and I both work in healthcare, and we got our vaccines early December, completing our course the first week in January.  I think our cards are different than people who got vaccinated later.

No.  Look at the deck plans.  There will be an area that is “notched” into the next stateroom.   That “notch” is the location of the bed.

SVs are also longer than the IV staterooms and thus feel much larger.

Another tip...the balconies are deeper and wider in some SVs.  The deepest at on deck 7 and get less deep as you go higher.   To see which are wider the deck plans do not show this but if you look at a photo of the aft you can see which balconies are the widest.    We were in 7312.  Heard nothing from Eden below but at night we could watch the changing light colors in Eden.   Would happily stay in one of these staterooms again.

This is great to hear.  We are booked in 7315 for the Nov 14 sailing.  I was reading the reviews and was getting nervous about the noise from Eden.  We usually have an aft room on the lowest deck because we love the deep balcony and the view of the wake.   We have never  been bothered by noise before.

  6. Here is our boarding day ritual.

Find our cabin, drop off carry ons.

Grab a quick bite at the buffet.

Explore the ship, finding our little quiet places, check out the dining rooms and bars.

Head out to the balcony to relax until muster and sail away.

Hopefully this will all be happening on the Edge in November 2021!

  7. Hi,

I may be dating myself, but I remember the most amazing fresh waffles on the Constellation and Millennium.  Any chance they are to be found on the Edge?

This was one of the first things my husband mentioned when we booked this sailing.

    Fingers crossed,

    Kim

  8. I don't understand the logic in eliminating the real balconies.  Did Celebrity give a reason why?  It seems like balcony cabins always sell out.  I may be way off base, as I don't work in the industry.  I just know that I will not sail without my own balcony to go out and sit on.

  9. I think we made a booking error.  We want to have a true balcony to sit outside on.  We are currently booked on the Edge for November in concierge class.  We booked through Expedia, and the description said "private balcony".  Will I have a place to sit in the sun, or will I be sitting in my stateroom with essentially a big window?  I will change my booking if I need to in order to get a true balcony.

    Thanks!

  10. It has been my experience (going back a few years though) that the main differences have been on formal nights. It seemed Princess took it more seriously. More people stayed in formal wear all evening, especially for the champagne fountain. Ease of navigation around the ship is much better on RCI ships. We joke that Princess has perfected the "you can't get there from here" theme. If you have kids, they may enjoy RCI. Adventure Ocean more. The kids club is the only reason we stopped sailing Princess. Our kids got way more out of RCI than Princess.

  11. On Celebrity there are very few announcements. At noon the captain announces the position of the ship and the weather, but that's pretty much it. We have not sailed Celebrity in a couple of years, so my info may be old.

  12. I completely agree also. We have been taking our kids on cruises for vacation for several years now. Last year, a foster child joined our family. The rules with DCF are that we cannot take him out of the country, so no cruise for us. Instead, we went to Orlando for 4 days, then drove to Siesta Key for 3 days. (We were lucky enough to stay with friends we had met several years ago on a Celebrity cruise). By the time we got home and added up the food, car rental, 3 days at Universal Studios, and a vacation condo in Orlando, we had spent way more than on a caribbean cruise. The food alone broke the bank, and we had breakfast and most dinners at the condo.

Happily, this year, we are able to take all three kids to the caribbean. Sailing the Allure on April 17!

  13. I would consider paying for a lounge chair. Just because I usually spend my days by the pool. My ds is old enough to check himself out of the kids program, and he usually comes looking for me. If I am always in the same spot, it cuts down on walkie talkie use because he knows right where I am. When we go go to the local water park, we always rent a cabana just for this reason, and it makes meeting up so easy.

    Just a thought...

  14. Thanks Joan,

Have a great time on your trip, and please let me know how your daughter likes the program. We have another whole year before we go, but it will be worth the wait. Our other option was to go on a shorter trip sooner, but we all decided to go for this one.

    Have a wonderful trip!

    Kim

  15. I am convinced, we will go on the Constellation. The kids actually prefer a quieter kids area. As I was thinking about the pool situation, my kids are not loud or horribly splashy in the pool, so they won't really be very disruptive to bathers or other swimmers. They are seasoned cruisers, who have made us proud in the past. (Complete strangers approached us and told us how well behaved the kids were on the ship). I am excited about the hours for the Fun factory (thanks cruisebunny). I am sure we will love the ship, and add another great family vacation to our memories!

    Thanks all!

    Kim
