  1. One used to be able to buy Carnival Cruise Gift cards at grocery stores and I remember buying them years ago at Kroger/Fred Meyers when they were having a 4x points promotion.

The 4x points promotion is on this week, however, there were no Carnival gift cards listed- only Princess- at the store or online.

They used to have Carnival and Royal Caribbean.

Maybe I've been out of the loop, but anyone else notice  ?

I meant when the port is cancelled. I have gotten refunds for overages before but I got nothing back when my ship skipped Bermuda in Jan. I believe the cruise with the power issue has already had one port cancelled before the cruise and maybe more due to the issues. The port fees and taxes for Alaskan cruises are on the high side so it's an even bigger issue on those itineraries.

Knowing NCL, by the time I get on the ship in 3 weeks, the ship will be impaired with limited services or changed or cancelled ports. I'm sure NCL will try to everything to not cancel the cruise but that means an experience significantly short of what we booked. I expect little or no communication on the matter from them before boarding.

Thanks for the explanation- I was interested in the itinerary because I haven’t been to Sitka and I’d hate to have them skip it.

I live in Seattle so it’s an easy trip to port.

Double up is currently only applicable to cruises out 4 months or more.

Thanks again, When I was buying Cruise Next coupons way before Covid years, the only restriction that I was aware of is that they could be doubled  for any booking  7+day and a balcomy or higher. and I used quite a few before covid.

  4. So I tried to book 2 7-day Balcony cabins and haven't had any problems using 2 cruise-next coupons, until today.

Did something change during the Covid years ?- it's my first cruise back.

The first cruise 5/10-5/17 , the gal said that she could use two Cruise Next.

The second cruise 5/17-5/24, the gal said that the system wouldn't allow her to and that I'd have to use a 50% off coupon, making the cruise $100 more than if I had used 2 Cruise-Next coupons.

So I cancelled, till I can understand it more.

    Anyone have a clue ?

  5. Know that there may be times that are difficult for you or your dad during the cruise.

Unexpectedly, it was taking that first step on the cruise ship that brought me to tears, for example.

Talk about it ahead of time and maybe find a signal, such as squeezing your dad’s hand or the like, to acknowledge how much you both miss your Mom during those times.

I’m glad I did it, and it’s been great. One thing I’ve learned for myself is that I can’t spend too much time on one ship or one line. Some people are on the Pride or the Island Princess from April to November………..I couldn’t do it. I was very happy to get off each ship and do something different.

Exactly. I'm trying to  extend vacation time by adding another cruise to an existing one.

Other than looking at cruise port schedules, like cruise mapper dot com or similar ones, it's time consuming.

The porters get their couple bucks per bag or your bag doesn't make it on to the ship. This is how it was explained to me by a porter on one of our first cruises anyway. To this day I can't tell if he was joking or not but I'm not willing to find out.

The exact thing was said to me by porters- many times

I'm on here too.  I got off the Island Princess in Copenhagen and jumped on the Grandiosa. I stay on for another 3 days at the end of this sailing, Barcelona -Genoa- Barcelona,  then I hop on the Meraviglia back to Port Canaveral, ending my 140 day European adventure, 134 days of which will be on cruise ships.  So far, honestly, I'm not loving the Grandiosa. I'm calling it just OK. I can't believe that there's only 3,800 people on the ship, it feels like WAY more. It's so darn loud!! I enjoyed my Divina cruises more, but that's just me. Looking forward to seeing if the Mera is different.

Not to hijack this thread, but I wanted to tell you that you're living the dream of cruising for 134 days !

I'm hoping to plan this for 2024 and this starting to look at the legistics.

LOL - It's not going to change anytime soon with Trudeau in charge.

ETA:  He has spent almost $25 million on ArriveCAN and not likely to scrap that anytime soon.

    I believe that you’re right.

if you want to sail to Alaska or the US East coast, where there are stops in Canada , you have to be vaccinated to cruise .m.

the expensive ArriveCan will provide a QR code, which will then be linked to your passport.

If you have been vaccinated and boostered then you probably won't suffer overt symptoms that cause hospitalization.  Kind of like getting the flu.  The unvaccinated ones are more at risk.

From what I’ve seen, both vaxed & unvaxed can have severe to almost no symptoms.
which may be the reason that the CDC is leaning in the direction it is.

People with Comorbidities/pre-existing conditions, whether vaxed or unvaxed, seem to have the more severe symptoms.

Sorry, not really.  But it looks like you won't be going to 22 countries that still require vaccinations.

You’re right- I won’t be going to Alaska or the East Coast where the ship stops in Canada and I’m okay with that.

I’ll be going on RCCL  and NCL this winter, as per usual, from LA to Mexico, which I usually do in the winters, which is okay with me too.

NCL will become the New Covid Line.
sorry, but I will not book on NCL.

3 more lines are lifting mandates to some embarkation ports - Princess, RCCL & Celebrity

Now, please put on your thinking cap and

    hear me out.

There are 22 countries that still require vaccinations.

Canada is one of them, so anyone unvaccinated cannot get on a cruise to Canada, going to Alaska, no matter what cruise line.

do you see where I’m going ?

It is about getting the ships filled. Many like me are not cruising with the testing requirement. I am vaccinated but have chosen not to book when testing is required. I basically am not concerned with COVID any longer. I have had 5 trips where testing was required, and I am just not doing it anymore. Plus, by allowing unvaccinated to book and travel with a test, they are attempting to mitigate risks and allow another portion of the population to book. I caught COVID on my last cruise when everyone was tested and vaccinated, so all the restrictions really haven't made a difference. There really isn't a reason for the restrictions when the ships are not in a bubble. Cruisers fly to the ship unmasked, check into hotels unmasked and are generally exposed before ever reaching the ship. So, in the end testing really never did any good.

    Great explanation.

My guess is that Testing upon boarding would catch a small percentage of people who may have caught covid a few days before embarking the ship.
That number must be small enough where it doesn’t matter ?

I have to be tested for work every day- since testing began .

can you tell me what it is about the testing that you don’t like.

I’ve read that the ‘stress’ people have about having to test & maybe being (+) and not being able to cruise.

For me, I would want to know.

    thanks

There's ample evidence of huge numbers of people who have had asymptomatic COVID infections, so much so that the reported number of infections is not close to the actual number of infections. This isn't a new discovery. It's been known since the early stages of the pandemic, long before vaccines were available.

So...no...the unvaccinated don't necessarily have symptoms if they are infected.

This is correct- some of the early findings were taken by testing in Boston, of which I won’t go over the details because it won’t be within CC guidelines in discussing cruising.

I’m very excited that the unvaxed will be able to cruise.
Having been around my share of positive Covid patients in the last 2 years & remaining unvaccinated, I and many other unvaccinated colleagues have remained unscathed.

Taking  personal responsibility for the likelihood of catching any type of virus while cruising is paramount.

This really makes no sense.  Non vaccinated needs a test.  Vaccinated does not need a test.  I really need someone to explain this to me.

I believe that they have it all wrong but as someone has said, it’s their rules.

The unvaccinated will be amongst a majority of vaccinated passengers, some of whom may be positive for covid and not know it because they got the vaccine and are without symptoms.

So testing the unvaccinated, who would have symptoms if they were positive  m-doesn’t make sense.

Still doesn't matter to those of us who want to do Alaska cruises because of Canada's restrictions. So, Vancouver to Seward/Whittier and vice versa is out as are the RT Seattle cruises because of the port call in Victoria.

What is Canada's deal anyhow? 🤨🤨

Could the unvaxed stay on board when in Victoria ? Hopefully, the cruise lines & Canada will allow the unvaxed to stay onboard the ship.

Canada and 22 other countries around the world have restrictions regarding vaccinated only &/or 14 day quarantine when you get there.m, if unvaxed.

I don't know if I've ever shared a sailing with him, but I think social isolation is a much bigger problem for landside people, in general. Sounds like he's out and about, has internet and is still working, and has the means and health to keep sailing. As long as he's not acting entitled with the crew or something, more power to him.

There are a few U-tube videos where he describes his typical day on a cruise ship.

He does work in finance, having a small group of clients and can do it while cruising

We don't like those games, so we don't participate and avoid being around when they are played. Other people like them and they do participate. I don't think I'm "higher class", those games just don't appeal to me.

Since there are announcements as to when the games are played, I can avoid them and let the people who enjoy them have at it.

I’ve never hung out at the pool to experience passengers who want to blow off some steam in order to relax.

Sounds to me like the Activities Directors need to come up with other games or events outdoors during daytime hours

    maybe more dance parties ?

OP was asking about different cruise lines/different itineraries. I wanted to take my mother on a three day Princess cruise, no port stops, so that she could experience the ocean and a cruise ship. Cruise started in Vancouver, ended in Los Angeles. OR start in Los Angeles, finish in Vancouver. Just one example of that type of cruse.

I’ve done many Pacific Coast cruises and repositioning cruises.

it’s a great way to relax.

MSC has the option of taking a 17 day cruise, which can also be booked at a 16-day or 15-day by embarking at ports that the 17-day cruise stops at.

I was wondering what OTHER cruise lines have that option

I guess I wasn’t  clear as to what I was asking initially- Sorry for the confusion.

When did MSC do West coast cruises? Are you sure the couple wasn't allowed a downline embarkation because they missed embarkation  in Vancouver? I don't think this is common on US sailings, due to PVSA rules. But you do see it on European sailings on some lines, as well as segments of World cruises.

The Pacific Coast cruise was not on MSC .

I spoke to the couple, who lives in Victoria & they embark there instead of Vancouver

    (still in Canada) .

I’m inquiring about other cruise lines, other than MSC -where a 20-day cruise, for example has passengers embarking & disembarking at different ports, for a shorter cruise.

I’ll look at the other cruise lines that have World cruises- thank you.
