  1. I was on a June sailing and the same itinerary changed happened to us. We were not able to enter port earlier as there were too many ships already docked and had to wait for them to leave before we could sail in. Please note people mover only runs till 11pm. There were very long lines at vaporetti stand to purchase tickets and then once we did make it into town pretty much everything was closed or closing especially the pay toilets.

We were leaving next morning on flight out of Venice so it was pretty much a bust for us. Suggestion if you are staying a few extra days in Venice then don't even bother getting off the ship the night you arrive. Enjoy your last night on board and make a reservation at a restaurant that you could not get into the rest of the trip.

  2. Barcelona to Venice 6.9.16

We have cruised before with other cruise lines. The trips on NCL spirit seem very expensive. Has anyone got any advise on what the ports are like. Can we organise our own trips, are there taxis available at reasonable pries etc.

I have looked on roll call but can't seem to join in and ask to join trips which are privately organised

    Thank you

how many are you traveling with and what is your adventure/activity level? With such a short time to plan best to see if you can join anybody on your roll call. If there are certain ports you have questions on maybe I can help. We diy every port and did no ship excursions. Barcelona, Naples and Athens have hop on hop off busses with easy access to port. That would be one thing you can quickly check on getting tickets for.

  3. Hi. Sorry to start a thread about this, but am struggling to find the information. Can anyone tell me what the sockets are in the inside cabins on the Norwegian spirit and if they can be used for chargers, curling tongs etc? I've read that people have taken extension boards with them. Are there special boards that are designed for travelling, as a lot of them are quite heavy and we a weight limit for our flights? Many thanks for all your help.

Here is a picture from coffee maker thread. This is your set up for outlets in cabin. I used my flat iron in outlet and we used our phone, camera and other charger. This is the only outlet so you will definately need an extension strip. We have a travel one that is very light weight no trouble at all to throw in suitcase. Also we had a balcony and an inside cabin and outlet set-up was the same for both.

  4. we are on Spirit 18 July Barcelona to Venice

what time is muster as trying to arrange a sailaway party and wondering best time to meet but that depends on timing of the drill

The muster drill was at 5pm. We had our meet & greet immediately following up at raffles bar and lasted thru sailaway.

Also big tip for those departing from Barcelona Port.... After you go thru security check for carry on, you go to get in line to check in and get your cruise card etc.... There will be some stores before you board including a LIQUOR store! I was able to purchase a few bottles of wine and throw them in my backpack. No further check points after that, straight up the escalator to scan your card to board ship. I was sure to keep my bottles tucked away in my cabin out of sight. Saved me $$$$$ on corkage and expensive on board drinks.

  5. Thank you jrpjk! Do you recall which evening the White Hot party was? Also was the Norwegian night out on a sea day? I am trying to figure out our options and are looking at pre booking some of our dining at the 90 day mark....which is coming up this week!

Our sailing was Barcelona to Venice direction. Norwegian Night out was the first sea day Day 6. The White Hot party was the night we left Athens Day 8.

  6. Hi jrpjk - did you happen to keep any of the dailies? I am looking for info on shows, trivia and white hot party times.

Also, do you happen to remember how many electrical outlets were in our cabin?

    Thank you.

Showtimes were 7pm and 9:30pm in Stardust Theater.

White Hot party was at 10:30 or 11pm in Galaxy Lounge.

Galaxy is also where they did trivia, I think that was during the day on Sea days.

For the outlets. Sad to report only one 110v & one 220 by the desk. We had two cabins inside and balcony and same for both. There is also one in bathroom thru the hairdryer that says for shavers only. We took and used surge strips to provide more charging options for our various devices. Had them in plain sight and never a problem with either room steward.

  7. Hello

My in laws will be on the Spirit in September and I was wondering if you could advise as to what the main entertainment show is on board right now. The cruise is less than 90 days out but there is now shows listed for booking when we log into myncl

    TIA

    Lachelli

Since the Spirit is a smaller ship no pre-booking needed/available for nightly shows. There were two showtimes every night at 7 and 9:30. I think shows vary from cruise to cruise. Some examples of shows on our sailing were. Flamenco dancers, Illusionist/Magic show, Strings of Fire, Juggler, Cruise line entertainment team/dancers musical reviews 2 nights plus finale Elements show, Husband & Wife Dancer/acrobatic/hand balancing act. My favorite was 4Ever (4 male singers kind of like 4 Tenors, El Divo concept) they performed 2 of the nights. There was never a problem finding a seat for the 9:30 show, Lots of people but lots of seats too. I don't know how packed the 7 pm shows were as with late on board time for ports we never seem to make those.

  8. In Dubrovnik, could anyone tell me how far is the port from the old town and the wall? Is it a walking distance or should we take a taxi. Also could we book walking tour on site. I am also interested in the game of throne filming location, is that well indicated? Thank you

You will definitely need to take a taxi. NCL offered bus service at $15 per person. We were a family of 4 so it was more economical for us to take a cab. Cab stand is outside of cruise terminal about 50 meters to the right. Long line but cabs came very quickly. It was 10 Euros there and 13 Euros return. We confirmed with cab driver upon pick up that he would except Euros as we had not exchanged any Kuna.

  9. Just booked spirit and got all excited when I saw this but looks like mama planes has lost interest!

What questions do you have I can help. I was on the 5/31 sailing Barcelona to Venice. I think mama planes was not on the grand Mediterranean as the first one was out May 7th so she may not know answers specific to the one you are taking.

  10. Is there a sushi specialty restaurant? Did you try it?

Yes there is a sushi bar thru Teppanaki. There is no additional charge to eat off regular menu but they do charge for sushi. Standard sushi prices nothing that out of sorts. We enjoyed the sushi and wish we had tried it earlier in the cruise so we could have eaten there more often. Regular menu items at teppanaki were just ok, I would skip on the spring rolls they were yuck.

  11. Did you notice when the laundry special was offered? I'm hoping it is mid cruise...

I was on a Barcelona to Venice sailing and there was only one laundry day special and it was the Naples day. You had to have you bag ready before you left the ship and it said they would return it in three days. We happened to get ours back the very next day in the evening. Don't count on that quick of turn around, I think we just go lucky.

  12. Thanks Cardbucfan, did you know in advance it was tendering in Kotor, or just when it was presumably mentioned in the dailies?

just off the 5/31 sailing and we docked in Kotor and two other ships in the bay had to tender in. The only port we had to tender was in Dubrovnik and they announced that in the daily that we received the night before. We had to go to get a group tender ticket in the morning. Process seemed to go pretty smooth and even though they said if you missed your number you would have to get a new ticket, they still would let people on.

i guess you really won't know which ports you will dock or tender as it seems to vary from cruise to cruise pending on port traffic that day. Also in Kotor the two ships that had to tender were in the bay before us and we pulled right into the dock. That was super convenient to dock as you are right in town and can easily get on and off the ship. It was an 8am to 7:30 pm all aboard time so very long day in port.

Mykonos we were the only ones to dock as two other ships tendered in to town also there before us.

NOTE : ship sells transportation in Dubrovnik from port to Old town for $15 RT per person. Cab line is a short walk away (20m) on main road and you can take a taxi to town for 10E there and 13E return. Yes they do except Euros, we found most places in town did or we used our credit cards. Did not have to exchange money to Kuna. We were a family of four so the cab was the better option for us, they ship of course makes it sound like their transportation is the way to go. I prefer to be on my own schedule and not wait around for the bus to fill up etc...

  13. Thanks for that. Probably not a dinner jacket. Would I be out of place in lacy dresses, as that's what I love to wear at night on holiday. Do many people stay up late, as that's another thing I really enjoy doing?

Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk

Yes definitely wear your lace dress if you like. I did wear a dress or dressy blouse most nights to dinner. They also did have photographers out in the lobby area everynight for backdrop photos so those few that did dress up did take their formal photos. As for staying up late that depends what you consider late. I did the 9:30 shows in the stardust theatre and then there where always things going on in the Galaxy lounge that started at 11 pm ish. Trouble is it is such a port intensive cruise with early mornings that we were just exhausted and never found ourselves up past midnight. We did come back on the ship on the overnight in Venice at 1;30 in the morning and the ship was a ghost town except for a few smokers up on Deck 12.

My last two cruises have been on Carnival the "Fun" ship and this cruise was definitely a different vibe. Don't know if that is due to being in the Mediterranean or because of NCL. I am not saying the different vibe was a bad thing just different from past cruising in general very very laid back and relaxed.

  14. No very casual dress on the Spirit Med cruise. Even for night out we ate in Windows and very few men in jackets. Most in a polo shirts and my guys had on dress shirts but no ties. I took many sundresses and did wear those but never my sparkly blouse or dressier palozzo pants outfit. Alot of the days coming back late from port we didn't change at all and were fine in the Garden dining room. We did not do any specialty dining options so I can't comment on how people dressed for there. People who did dine with the officers were dressed a little better but again I never saw anyone in formal wear. Officer night is also the night they have seafood in the buffet so keep that in mind as everyone raved about that.

  15. You're welcome! Have a great trip! Our kids loved it.

Thank you for your answers. I'm glad to hear your kids loved it. I am more excited for my kids then for myself. It will be exciting to experience this with them. Yes that will be a better option to just take a cab. I thought I saw the cab would cost us 50E so glad to hear it was only 40E

One more question for you. The day the ship arrives in Venice at 2pm was there a time restriction with NCL as to when you had to be back on board? I heard the people movers stop running at a certain time but if we are docked far from those anyway I guess that really doesn't matter. Hoping we can go with the flow and stay out till when we are ready to return. Since we leave 1st thing in morning it will be the only time kids get to see things there. DH and I have been before.

  16. What did you do in the port of Toulon? Did you DIY? I am traveling with 2 teen boys so your suggestions might be relevant as a wine tour is out of the question.

Also Dubrovnik? Did you walk the wall? Money must be exchanged correct? Need cash for cab is what I have read but what else?

Was it chaos for Disembarking in Venice? We leave straight for the airport so was just planning on taking the bus. Any suggestions on navigating that.

    Thanks for your help

  17. Going on a Grand Mediterranean Cruise and thinking about renting a mobile wifi pocket device that I can connect my iphone and such to use in ports in Europe.

From Tep wireless or another such company. Wondering if anyone has done this in the past and if so did you have a good experience with it and also did it work on board the ship once you left port? We are on Norwegian Cruise line.
