  1. nice resurrection ... 4 years ....

    BUT

bonus points for reading old threads

I obviously wasn't paying attention to the date of the thread only the subject matter. Thank you for your observation, however....

  2. Not too far from the port, in "downtown proper" there is the Butterflake Bakery..they have lovely treats there as well.

If you go the craft market near the Pork Pit, ask for Annette...her shop is in the back...she's a lovely friend and works hard to support her family!

I am so glad you have an open mind about the country...so many people don't!

I've only been to the area once so I really don't know my way around. The last time we were there with Carnival we used the Hop on Hop off shuttle. I am curious to find this "Butterflake Bakery" you speak of. We are planning on going to the Hip Strip area and the Craft Market--is it anywhere near there? (I'm not sure where "downtown proper" is-thanks in advance!!)

  3. Thanks for all the info! I love to go where the locals go--you know it's good food then! Why even visit places without really seeing the culture and the people with an open mind. Some of the threads on here have just disgusted me about the "bad reviews" of the area. I enjoyed my first trip there and can't wait to go back in a few days. I think we'll be trying out the Pork Pit!

  4. We ate there Sep 2012. We asked our excursion guide where he would reccommend and where locals might eat and that was one of the places he suggested. We had four in our party and not one person at our table had one bad thing to say about the place or their meal. We loved the food and the view was breathtaking. It is on our to-do list when we go back in a couple days. The fish burger was awesome! (JMHO)

  5. I would have probably said something like, "Excuse me, I notice you have a couple extra chairs underneath yours that it doesn't appear you are using. Would it be possible for us to use them? If you are saving them for someone else, we would gladly return them as soon as your other party arrives."

That is a very polite and excellent response. [emoji106]

  6. This is great, love the list. I'll be going to the Dollar Tree this weekend. Will pick up just a few things. We have a large storage bin we keep "cruise stuff" in. I buy a little at a time and throw it in the bin. Come time to start packing I'm not buying everything at once. There's a few things on the list that's not in the bin :D

What I great idea!! Thanks! I will be using that tip for the future!

  7. We allow the people on the elevator to get off before we get on the elevator. We don't break in line at the buffet. We say excuse me, thank you and you're welcome. We don't make extraordinary requests from the room steward or the waiters. We don't hog the chairs on the pool deck. We don't save chairs at the shows because we arrive together. We don't push to get on or off the tenders. We are so happy to be on a cruise that you can't wipe the smiles off our faces and we find that by just relaxing, being patient and smiling, we get treated in kind. It's pretty simple.

DITTO! I wish more people had this mentality and outlook! :)

  8. I don't pack until almost time to go otherwise I forget what I put in the suitcase and have to unpack it and repack it anyway. Lol! But yes, I do recheck documents more than once to make sure everything is in order. Funny stuff, isn't it?? It is a lot to keep up with. I don't breathe a sigh of relief until I'm on the Lido deck.

I'm the same way!! Everything has to be packed at the same time or I'll forget something!

  9. This is what we have done twice now, really nice beach, had some drinks, snorkelled around the pier lots of little fish, laid out in the sun, best little trip to the beach in Jamaica just grab a cab at the port it is feet away from margaritaville when you are done walk back along the shops and get your cab back at margaritaville, Dunn's waterfalls is great trip too but its a long day trip :-) you will get asked if you want to buy weed, souveniers etc but thats most vacation islands they rely on your business a simple NO THANKS and they go away. Enjoy don't let the few pessimists spoil your time.

THANK YOU for this post(Especially the last sentence);)!!!!

We had a great time when we went to Montego Bay and I can't wait to go back in a couple weeks! We went to Dr Cave's Beach as well and will probably make a stop by there again on this trip. They also have a "Hop on Hop off" shuttle that you can buy a wristband for 10-15 and ride it to Dr. Cave's Beach, shops, restaurants, etc and then hop back on whenever you need it.

  10. We are going to Montego Bay, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. We have excursions planned in all areas BUT Montego Bay. Honestly, after reading different reviews, I'm feeling a little nervous to get off the ship and walk about here.

I would love to know from others who have been here already how it was. Did you feel safe? Are the bad/scary reviews true?? It will be myself, husband, and 10 year old going. Suggestions appreciated.

We went SEP 2012 with the same itinerary(and we sail out in 20 days for the same cruise-and I can't wait)and there was never a place or time the whole time we were in port that I felt "unsafe". I am so glad that I didn't believe all the "bad" things people were saying....In my research prior to going I never found any actual factual stories just the same thing over and over again that it wasn't safe there. I was never able to find a reason why it was "not safe" so I decided to make my own opinion! You should always be aware of your surroundings at all times wherever you go like the grocery store, dark parking lot, or a cruise ship port. We all enjoyed Montego Bay and had a great time! If someone hassles you to buy anything and you are not interested, tell them you're not interested and keep on moving simple as that! Hope you have a great time!

  11. Thank you wiskt & tiggerman101 so much for all the information y'all provided. My husband & I had this on our list of possiblities and I think I've just bumped it to the top. We've been to Cozumel several times and done something completely different every time so this excursion would keep in that tradition.

  12. We rented a jeep one time while in Cozumel. It was several years ago, but we didn't have any problems. The only problem we had was forgetting how to get back to where we rented the Jeep from(obviously we finally found it and had time to spare for a drink by the port). The jeep was brand new and it was nice to just drive to all the places I had seen excursions for and see the sites on my own time instead of someone else's. JMHO
