  1. We will be on the Diamond Princess in November 2023.  Will there be taxis at the cruise port in Jeju  we can take just to go over to the Cheonjeyeon Falls on our own.  If so are there taxis in the area to take you back to the cruise port when we are done? What would this cost?

Just wander if anyone else has done this.

  2. Can anyone help with this question? What insurance would be good to cover you if you get to the port and do a covid test there and it is positive.  We are arriving in Barcelona  on the 3rd and the ship pulls out on the 6th.  We have to fly out from the US on the 2nd so we will have to have a Covid test in Barcelona because Princess says it has to be 3 days or less from embarkation  We are doing a cruise that is 26 nights and ends in Ft. Lauderdale.  Im not sure that Princess Insurance will cover us with airfare getting home from Barcelona if we have Covid.  Can anyone suggest a travel insurance company that would cover this airfare and quarantine stay if we turned up having it in Barcelona?.

  3. We are flying in to Barcelona on November 3rd.  We board the ship November 6th.  If I do a Covid test in Barcelona  because it has to be done within 3 days of boarding the ship and I have Covid will the Princess Insurance fly me back home from Barcelona and pay for my quarrantine in Barcelona.  I want to add we are boarding in Barcelona for 26 nights and ending in Ft Lauderdale.  If Princess insurance does not cover this can anyone suggest a travel insurance company who would cover this?  We would not be doing the test at the cruise port we would be doing it in a drug store in Barcelona.

I tried booking them for a Florence/Pisa tour in October and got a reply back that due to a shortage of guides and drivers they could not do the tour... Currently looking for another company before we resort to using the ship tour.

I wander if it is how many ships that are in port that day.  We are going in November and they got us right in.  We are the only ship in port that day I believe though.

  6. We will be in Genoa in November for a cruise. Princess has three excursions that sound like the same thing. Their numbers are GOA-150 GOA-160 and GOA-165.  I have booked

the most expensive one GOA-165 but my question is.the one I booked does not mention going to Duomo. Really want to see it.  Does it go there?. The other two list that they do.

Also, do you actually get to see the painting on all three of these excursions? The other two mention going into the church but dont mention seeing the painting.

I know the most expensive one probably has a lunch with it and it says you travel by Mini bus and the other two are no lunch on large busses.  Any help with this would be greatly apppreciated, and if you took one of these tours which one and what did you think about it? I have called Princess but couldnt get a straight answer. Thanks in advance for your input.

  8. Would like to get opinions about which cruise we should take to Norway. We love  scenery and are looking forward to seeing the fjords. I have it narrowed down to three different cruises that I am interested in The first one is a Princess Cruise called 8 day Norwegian fjords. It goes to Bergen Alesund Olden Hellesylt Geiranger and Stavanger. It goes out towards the end of July. The second one is also a Princess Cruise. It is called land of the Midnight Sun 14 days. The ports are Haugesund, Flam, Olden,Trondheim, Honningsuag, Thomso, Lofoten Islands, Andalsnes, Bergen. The one drawback to this one is we will be in Port from 7 to 5 in flam and I'm afraid we won't be able to see very much of the fjords coming in or leaving because this Cruise goes out August 22nd. I'm thinking it will get sundown at 8:30 so we will miss a lot of the fjords on this. The last Cruise I'm interested in is Carnival. It is a 9 day cruise. The ports are Bergen Hellesylt Geiranger, molde, Olden, Alesund and Stavange. This Cruise goes out June 19th 2020 so there should be a lot of daylight. I like both cruise lines so the ship really doesn't matter. We are more interested in what we will be seeing. I'd like to hear from people who have already been to these places and let me know which Cruise you think we should take.  I like the idea of the longer Cruise because of the extra sea days however I want to see the most scenic places . Would like to make a decision in the next week. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  9. You should be able to get a taxi at noon, if there are none on the pier, ask one of the meet and greet people to point you towards the nearest taxi rank, it is on the land side of the town church, about 5 minutes walk from the pier.

Yes, another bus should be fine, you just need anyone that goes to the airport. IMO the Occupation Museum is worth it, but it would be a shame if this is the only place you have chance to visit. The buses have a slightly reduced service at the weekend, so please check the timetables before you make a decision.

I know of some accredited guides and independent taxi drivers who do not charge if the ship does not dock. Unfortunately i do not think this website allows me to post their details.

Can you email me this information? My email is ssmith3000 at comcast.net would love to get something setup for four people in July thank you ahead of time for this info:)

  10. I agree! As long as they'll run it for you guys, assuming you'll have to still pay for the 8 people, then I would do it. It's so worth the private tour over the massive large group, IMO.

It's like our wedding to be honest. My husband doesn't like sitting 10 people/table at big events, he feels it's so crowded. So he wanted only 8 people at the tables. We paid the guaranteed amount for the larger room, so we could have the higher amount of tables to spread people out. It cost us an extra $1,000 probably, but he didn't care. So we paid for X amount of people, knowing we weren't even inviting that many.

So, if you can eat the extra costs you may have to eat by paying for 8 people when there's only 4, you may find it's worth it.

I would go ahead and book it and then post it on your roll call that you would like four more people and that way you will know the exact cost and can give them this information. I just did this myself we are going on the July 12th sailing. I was very nervous about it but was able to get two other couples besides the four we originally are. I sent them by email what I paid they saw the invoice from Overlord and both couples mailed me a check to go ahead and pay for their way so I was not out the money very long which I thought was very nice. I have kept in contact though all along with both couples here and there just so they know that we are definitely going. I was a little nervous on them not paying me and I'm sure they were nervous to send me the money but it worked out and we are all 8 looking forward to a wonderful time.

  11. My vote is the "Adventure Bound" out of Juneau. We did this back in 2008 and are doing it again in August. If you have a long port day this excursion is wonder ful. I felt I saw the real Alaska. It was wonderful. Not every ship is in port long enough to do this so if yours is I would check it out. Best excursion we have ever done anywhere and we have been on 20 cruises.

  12. We are going on the Carnival Sunshine in April 2014 to Montego Bay. We have narrowed down our option to two choices. Croyden Plantation Spirit of Jamaica or Good Hope Great House Estate Tour. Has anyone been on both and if so which one did you like best. Any suggestions would be helpful.:)

  13. I had read many posts of renting a car and driving to the Ronald Reagan Library from Santa Barbara. Everyone said it would be a rushed day and not to do it. I really wanted to see it though so decided to go. I am writing this to encourage anyone who wants to see this library to go. The grounds are beautiful. It was such an easy drive. All the heavy traffic ran the opposite way. We were in port from 7 to 6 so it was a long port day. We were one of the first ones on the tender, walked over to pick up our rental car and was on the road by 8:15. We stopped at McDonalds for a Coke for about 10 minutes and got to the Library about 9:35. The library opened at 10 and I had already bought my tickets online so walked right in. We had a wonderful 4 /2 hours in the library. We even stopped for lunch on the way back and drove through town for about 20 minutes and then headed back to the ship. We allowed extra time just in case of traffic since we were not familiar with the area. If you want to see the library, this is a very easy excursion. Very inexpensive too. I spent about $115 for everything for two people.:)

  14. Does anyone know if the bus in the zoo functions as a hop on/hop off, I don't think my husband could walk it if there is a lot of steep up and down.

I was just at the zoo Sunday and was very impressed how it is set up. They have a bus that does a 35 minute tour and then they have other bus/trolley type vehicles that are hop on hop off. There are five stops. Only had to walk up 1 hill and that was because I wanted to walk from the Polar Rim back to the aerial lift. Really set up nice. They even have a moving sidewalk going up hill that you can stand on and ride up. Like an escalator but without steps. :)

  15. There is only one pier terminal in San Diego. Balboa Park is relatively close to port.

taxifarefinder dot com is a good resource for approximating taxi fares.

I just took a taxi Sunday from the cruise port to the San Diego Zoo and it cost me $16.00 to get there and a little over $14 to get back. It depends how much traffic there is. They are on a meter, not a set price.

  16. If you do a search on the Ports of Call - Canada page you will find many previous reports. Just look to the right of the blue bar at the top of the page.

For Sydney, it depends upon when you are going. The two main things I recommend are Louisbourg and Baddeck.

If you are going before Oct. 15, I suggest going to see Fortress Louisbourg. The quickest, most economical way to get there is to rent a car. There are many posts about this. You can also reserve a taxi or probably pick one up at the dock. The ship's tours from what I have read do not give you enough time. Once you are inside the Fortress you will not need a guide, as people acting the roles of actual people who lived in Louisbourg in 1744 will explain things. If you go there, try to have lunch or at least a drink in the pub.

If it is after Oct. 15 and/or you would like a fairly short scenic drive, then I would rent a car and go to Baddeck and Iona, returning to Sydney another way. This will take you around the scenic Bras D'Or lakes (really an inlet of the sea).

In Baddeck you can see the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and walk around the village. There are shops and restaurants there.

In Iona (which is one of the most beautiful places I have been) you can tour the Highland Village.

For Corner Brook, you could rent a car and drive into Gros Morne National Park. The scenery is beautiful.

Hi Maryann. We took a tour through the ship called Bra'D Lakes Grand Tour in early June of this year. It was very nice but I should have listened to you when you said it was easy to do it on your own. I paid $300 for two people and it was very nice but would have been so much cheaper to rent a car. It was such an easy drive. The commentary was good but it was mostly about Canada's government and health care system and I think alot of people already know about that. Save yourself the money and do this tour on your own. I would have loved to spent more time at the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and less time in the town of Braddeck or stopping for lunch. Highland Village was very nice too.

  17. You can certainly go the back ways and route 1 and hug the coast. From Kennebunkport you'd head north through cape porpoise and Biddeford pool, which are similar to KBport...from there it gets progressivly more city like you go though biddeford and saco, scarborogh, and into portland. Its a fine drive but will take you three times longer than taking the pike. Like someone else said--it's new england, lots of stop signs, lots of little towns and small roads:)

Thanks for the info and thanks Mnbruce. Still trying to decide if I should go to Kennebunkport on a tour with a hour boat cruise or just stay in Portland and go see three lighthouses. We have been to Kennebunkport from Boston but Like the idea of taking a little boat ride around Walkers Point. Oh decisions. decisions.:)
