  1. Quoted from another post (not verified).

A change likely forthcoming for HAL Zuiderdam and QM2 soon.

"Revised Princess schedule is skipping all Asia ports. Going from Perth to Mauritius, Cape Town, Walvis Bay and Cape Verdi then continue with the European ports."

I suspect that Carnival is working on a plan that also involves the HAL Zuiderdam, which is slated to be in Columbo Sri Lanka on 28 March (right around the time of the QV and QM2).  The Zuiderdam and QM2 are supposed to head to the Persian Gulf area and then around the Red Sea together for Suez transits on 17/18 April.  In a revised plan all 3 ships (QV, QM2, and Zuiderdam) would likely depart Columbo together or in close proximity and then head for the Cape of Good Hope to refuel/reprovision at Port Elizabeth South Africa.  Carnival is under some pressure to deal with the Island Princess, which will be here in Sydney in 2 weeks (14 Feb) and is slated to head to Perth-Singapore-Dubai and transit the Suez in mid-March.  If they are going to route around Southern Africa, then the departure point off their scheduled voyage is from Perth.   They really need to advise people who would like to bail out at Sydney, which is a major embarkation point.

The US DOT Maritime Administration advisory for the Red Sea is due to be updated on 30 Jan (Washington time).  This will likely seal our fates.

Regardless of (ship company) reimbursement or compensation, insurance costs are likely not reimbursed.  That alone will give me pause for cancellation (of the remainder) of the cruise.

My friends and I are all having a great time - but that’s helped by the fact that none of us is getting on or off in Dubai so we’re more comfortable living with an uncertain itinerary. Plus we’ve all been through something similar before: It’s the cost of traveling in an uncertain world. So we float.

We are in the same boat (er.. ship), literally.  Dubai, Petra and Athens are on my bucket list.  But what will be will be.

Lucky and grateful to be here and now.

Just to be clear about this: what makes Carnival/Cunard ships US owned? The company is quoted on both the NY and London stock exchanges, while Cunard’s registered office is in Southampton.

From Wikipedia:  offered with a grain of salt....

Cunard Line (/ˈkjuːnɑːrd/) is a British shipping and cruise line based at Carnival House at Southampton, England, operated by Carnival UK and owned by Carnival Corporation & plc. Since 2011, Cunard and its three ships have been registered in Hamilton, Bermuda.

In 1998, Carnival Corporation purchased a controlling stake in Cunard, completing the acquisition in 1999 to become sole shareholder.[45]

Between 1989 and 1999, the company [carnival corporation] acquired Holland America Line, Windstar Cruises, Westours, Seabourn Cruise Line, Costa Cruises and Cunard Line. The name Carnival Corporation was adopted in 1993, to distinguish the parent company from its flagship cruise line subsidiary.[3]

Carnival Corporation and Carnival plc jointly own all the operating companies in the Carnival group

My travel agent just confirmed that a $200 credit from AARP was added to the cruise I just booked on Tuesday.  We booked a suite, 42-day cruise.  Yeah.

Ha!  You are luckier than I was.

I started looking Tues (moving this fall), got quotes Wed, confirmed Thurs.  Price for the 42 day (Volendam, mediterranean? mentioned by TPG) went up $500 pp from Tues to Wed, $4k pp from Wed to Thurs.  Rooms I had initially targeted also no longer available.

We did get the $200 OBC and educator $100 OBC.  My Big box TA had never seen anything like this for dynamic pricing. 😞
