  1. If there are no delays on your inbound flight you can do 1 hour BUT we always schedule at least a 2 hour connection time based on experience. Rarely are the gates in the same terminal. We will be flying rough ATL on Thursday and have a 2 hour and 45 minute layover and worst case don't have to be in our next city until the following day.

  2. I have used a Vera Bradley duffel as a carry on before but now I sure an international roll onboard and a lug brand under seat bag for my personal item. The lug bag slips over the handle of my carry on so airports are easy. We travel soon to Hong Kong and change planes three times and I don't want to do that carrying anything!

  3. We are on the Shadow from Hong Kong to Singapore, this is our first trip to that part of the world and a little concerns too. We have booked our dining and spa but would love to book our excursions. I like plan in advance and would prefer to have this done already. We have booked precruise and post cruise on our own.

  4. My husbands reluctance is because he has been to Alaska many times. His father was president of one of the pipeline companies that build many miles of the Alaska pipeline, so we are exploring things that neither of us has seen until we run out of ideas.

  5. We sail on the Shadow in October from Hong Kong so I would love more I for and the ship. I am trying to convince my husband to do an Alaska cruise but he is reluctant. I will follow your posts closely.

  6. One thing to consider is if you sail from San Juan the water and ports are warmer right away, particularly in the winter. So check weather averages if plan on swimming or beaches. Cruise fares also vary greatly so choosing an off week, for instance when kids are in school and not around a holiday time will allow you to get more trip for your money. If you fly to your port check rates carefully it is often more cost effective to stay over a night both coming and going.

  7. I am the same size and age and I get a lot of linen clothes from JJill or Eileen Fisher. I try to pack only natural fibers, preferably linen because I am always hot. Silk packs great and is lightweight. My wardrobe is primarily black and gray with pops of purple or blue. I do take denim but don't wear traditional tennis or athletic shoes. In the warm months I am a Birkenstock girl but the best pair of shoes I have ever had are Naot Kieri style, I have walked all over Europe in these, they are better than athletic shoes and look nice. I plan months in advance and shop with travel in mind, everything pretty much works together so it is hassle free. I also take advantage of any laundry service, I would rather pay to have my clothes done than lug around too much.

  8. Amazon and many other places sell small rolls of duct tape in a two pack. I always have one with me and keep them in all our cars. I keep a box filled with travel items and add to it months before a cruise, I have taped a list of items to double check to so I don't forget. I always have first aid supplies like moleskin, bandaids, otc meds to take too.

  9. Yes, now that you mention that, we did have Dawn..

I always just use the hand soap or shampoo when washing my clothes...never had a problem....

I'm going on the Uniworld River Duchess in July and they have a guest laundry, so I'm assuming that they will supply the detergent..

    Thanks for your replies

We were on Uniworld River Beatrice in a suite last year and they did our laundry for us. I don't know about other cabins but it was nice.

  10. I use flanabags for all my stuff. They are see thru, have a small carry loop for through security and are very sturdy. My husband has used the same one for 4 years. I pack my 3-1-1 stuff in one, then use others for different needs. They fold flat so they are easy to store and since I can see exactly what is inside easy to organize. You can find them on etsy and their website. I give them as gifts all the time and other people love them.

  11. I am also severely allergic to shellfish. I have two suggestions. Take Pepcid before meals, this was suggested by my allergy doc, may help if it is a small cross contamination and won't hurt. Also there is website selectwisely.com. They print and laminate cards in many different languages that I use to show waiters as well as refer to myself when traveling. These are not cheap but have served me well. I keep them with my passport and save from trip to trip.
