  1. Thank you so much for a post dry dock Magic review :) Ive got 19 more days before I board for the same intinerary and am really looking forward to it! We are all the way forward in a 4J cabin looking straight out to the bow of the ship.

So are we - same sailing! Deck 10 :D

  2. If you are referring to the ones at the bow of the ship - the rooms tend to be larger. They also have a window that overlooks the front of the ship. It's nice to be able to see outside. The walkway is only accessible by a door at the very front of the ship (end of the hall) and unless you've ventured up there, or read this page, most cruisers don't realize it is there. The walkway is not used a lot and can often feel like your own private balcony.

On the flip side - the room location is not good for some. Not only are the rooms at the front of the ship, but typically on a higher deck where someone more sensitive to the motion of the ship may feel it a little more. It's also a long way from any activities on the other end of the ship. Also, many of those rooms are handicap accessible and there is a chance you could be moved to another room if needed for a handicap passenger. (How they regulate this, I have no idea).

IMO - the pros outweight the cons by far! We stayed in one of the corner walkway views on the Breeze and the cabin is larger than most suites. We fit 30+ people in our room at the end of our group cabin crawl. We are booked in another for our Magic cruise in a few weeks (not a corner, but still a larger than regular interior cabin). Looking forward to it!

  3. We moved to Florida 3 years ago so that we could drive to multiple cruise ports within 3 hours. I don't know that we necessarily have ever gotten a better deal because we live in Florida. You can go to the Fare Viewer and try plugging in different states to see if there is a difference.

THIS is the best "special" you get from being a Florida resident. I can easily drive to 5 cruise ports all less than 4 hours from me and one almost right in my back yard (Tampa). Unless I am wanting to sail the West Coast of the US..there is never a reason for me to fly to a ship! :)

  4. I read an article several weeks ago that someone had posted on here about the Carnival dry dock schedule. I don't remember who posted it. But it said the Magic would receive all 2.0 upgrades except for Guys and Blue Iguana. It said they didn't have the deck space for it.

Ok - given where Guys and Blue Iguana is on the Breeze - that's a ridiculous statement. You are essentially just replacing the "Grille" with Guys (which already does burgers, etc) and the "Pizzeria" (easily moved somewhere else) with Blue Iguana.

I know you were just repeating what you had heard/seen...so I'm not shooting the messenger ;)

  5. A few years ago we took a cruise and my daughter led me and a friend in an amazing yoga "class" on an upper outdoor deck at sunset (I think it had once been the topless sunning area). It was so enjoyable and relaxing. The next day a few other passengers joined in. By the end of the week my D had a group of about 15 completely involved! :)

There will be 2 of us on this trip, so I don't think the balcony would work, but I might just "lead" us in sunset yoga on that top deck, and enjoy the stretching at the gym.

    :p

What a fabulous idea!!!! I love this...wonder if I might stumble upon something like that on our next sailing! :)

  6. Hidden Gem! We had cabin 11204 on the Breeze (which is a 6S - it's on the Spa deck) and have booked a 4J on the Magic on deck 10. In the future, I will try to book these types of cabins almost always. Having the extra space is amazing and it's nice to be able to move around. The access to the front semi-private walkway is awesome and I like being a few steps away from the pool/lido area.

On the Breeze, we were the last stop in a cabin crawl and we fit nearly 40 people in our cabin. I'm pretty sure they are bigger than the suites!

In reference to the motion.... I know they say the front of the ship is prone to feeling the movement more, but we didn't notice it any more than the more centrally located interior/balcony cabins we had on other sailings. I am more sensitive than my husband and I was fine.

  7. I'm another one who LOVES Sea Days! I never think I have enough and always feel like I missed out on something because there wasn't enough time to do everything I enjoy. Relax with a good book by the pool or serenity or inside, tea time, trivia, wine tasting/pairing, cooking demonstrations, lido entertainment, spa time, mini golf, casino, etc. I would be the type who'd take a week long cruise to nowhere if it was available....especially on the newer ships.

  8. We had a spa cabin for our last sailing (also on the Breeze). You get 10% off your first service, 20% off you second and 30% off your third, plus one or two free workout/yoga classes and access to the Spa amenities like the therapy pool (which is like a giant hot tub), sauna and steam rooms and special relaxation areas. I highly recommend relaxing on one of the contoured tile heated chairs in the relaxation areas....I fell asleep in one they are so comfy!! Enjoy your cruise...she is our favorite ship and we loved the spa!

  9. From Valor to Magic? Regardless of cabin, that's a score!

Now those who were moved from Breeze to Splendor, they have more reason to moan.

Yup - you can say that again. We were supposed to be on the Breeze in a 6S Cabin (HUGE cabins if you have never been in them). Well...we jumped ship once they announced they were replacing it with the Splendor. We're now on the Magic, but with the 6S's already booked...we accepted a 4J. It's actually saving us $150 per cabin, better itinerary, better ship, still a larger room and we still get to keep the $50pp OBC

  10. Quick question regarding the OBC. Does anyone know if everyone affected by the Breeze/Magic switch was supposed to receive the $50pp OBC? We were originally on the Magic and now will be sailing on the Breeze. Very happy, as we have sailed on and loved them both, and it's definitely not a downgrade. That being said, if we are eligible for the OBC, we want to make sure we get it! Thanks in advance!

Yes. It showed up on our payment information under cruise details when you log in on the carnival site. We even changed sailings (now on the Magic) and still get to keep the OBC. So we got a cheaper cruise and $50pp OBC.

Enjoy the Breeze - she is our favorite ship and we were looking forward to sailing on her once more before she left FL. :)

  11. After initially booking the Breeze for May 1st, 2016 we decided yesterday to jump ship (literally) and moved to the Magic for April 30th. For us it's a longer cruise, closer port to get to (we're in Tampa), better itinerary, better ship than the Splendor and cheaper than the cabin we booked on the Breeze. While I am disappointed about not going on the Breeze...she is our favorite ship and the whole point was to sail on her again before she left Florida....I am excited about this sailing and checking out the Magic!

  12. We were also booked on the Breeze for May 1st 2016 and with the switcheroo of ships to the Splendor for that sailing, we decided to jump ship (literally) and moved to the Magic! We originally booked the Breeze to sail on her before she left FL (she is our favorite ship), but since it's not on that ship, we decided we liked the itinerary and proximity of the Magic better. Looking forward to a great trip!

  13. I guess it just must be me.

That room is awesome, however I am not handicapped, thank goodness, so I would never even look at booking a handicapped room. Even if I knew I might get bumped. I just don't look at them.

    Then don't book one.

I was given the warning when I booked it and I understand. If we get bumped, oh well. Quite frankly - I'd be happy sleeping in a chair on the Lido deck. I know the risks and will gladly get moved to something else if someone needs the room. If not, then I am going to enjoy the hell out of this beautiful cabin! :D

  14.

Dad really wanted to go Salmon fishing and I found a wonderful price for 4 people on a 4 hour fishing trip, whole boat to ourselves for $140 a person plus $20 for king salmon stamp and $10 for fishing license. As we got off the boat Josh from Salty Sea Charters was waiting for us right outside the ship. He told us the awful news, that our excursion along with a lot of others were being cancelled due to the weather. The float planes, fishing trips and most every other water excursion was cancelled!! We were all sad as we were really looking forward to eating Salmon for months.

I was refunded and the money was back in my account 2 days later. Next time I go to Alaska I will def book with Salty Sea Charters!!

What a bummer!! We fished with Josh during our Alaska cruise and it was fantastic!! I'm so sorry you missed out on this.

I am loving your review btw....it makes me miss our Alaska trip. We did the exact itinerary, but the last of the season in 09. Glacier Bay is magnificent and we loved every port. Glad you & your family had a good time!
