Just talked to NCL. Their line (for now) is that this is only effecting future cruises. My sailing was Monday June 10. I wish they would be honest.

I’m not sure how they’re not being honest? I’m on the 6/10 sailing and got a message in myNCL last night that our cruise (and all future cruises) are being re-routed and there will be more details when they have them. You should have a message also.

  2. I hope NCL takes their cue from RCCL and offers something. Honestly,  still happy to be going on vacation, and any cruise is better than no cruise, but I am very sad to be missing Cuba, especially for a port that I’ve been to multiple times on a ship that o would not have picked if it hadn’t been for the itinerary. Obviously I understand that it’s out of NCL’s control and that poets are always subject to change, but some sort of feature would be nice. I leave Monday, so I’m just waiting to see where I’m headed.

  3. Anything under $15 is included. Anything over $15 is still included, but you pay the difference over $15. Drink of the day is usually $8 or $9, so they’re always included, but the drink of the day is just a drink off the evilest cocktail menu at a reduced price for that day.

  4. 1. Nope. NCL still wins hands down. And they have better specialty restaurants if that’s of any interest to them.

    2. Personally, I prefer entertainment on NCL, but I’ve never been bored on RCCL. NCL just feels more fun to me. (I’m 33) And Howl at the Moon is my favorite entertainment at sea. I miss it terribly on every ship that doesn’t have it now.

    3. I actually think this is more a ship to ship thing than line to line. I’ve been on ships on both lines that had great bands outside at the pool and on ships that just piped in top 40 songs all day long.

  5. Last Mango in Paris! Also, Margaritaville doesn’t have an a la carte menu any more. It’s a per person cover charge now. So if you just want nachos for lunch, and there’s 2 if you, that’s going to be a $35 plate of nachos. It’s the one thing NCL has done that I’m truly ticked off about. Nachos and margaritas was always my embarkation day tradition. The cover charge does include a starter, main course and dessert per person, but I never want or need that much food.

  6. I agree with the others that it would be tight. Doable, but right. I think t would depend on who you’re planning to travel with. If it’s family, I think it’s doable if everyone is prepared for close quarters. Also, to put 4 adults in a mini suite, the only bed configuration is the main bed, which can be split into 2 singles as well as the sofa, whih pulls out a bit to make the 3rd bed and then a 4th single Pullman above the sofa.

  7. Nope. It’s a great ship. My theory for some time has been that Breakaway gets bad reports based on her location/demographics. I’m actually really curious to see what happens to Escape’s reviews when she moves to NYC, since they’ve been glowing overall since day one. I’m guessing based off your screen name that you’re going out of New Orleans? So it’ll be a very different crowd than NYC. Try it, and have a great time :)

  8. Or, perhaps you went on a cruise, which is basically a giant Petri dish dead in the middle of one of the worst flu seasons in the last several decades. Honestly, act like a grown up and take some accountability instead of running straight to an Internet forum to complain about things a cruise line has zero control over. PS: YOU and ONLY you are responsible for making sure you have the paperwork you need to file a medical reimbursement claim. Of course it was charged to your credit card upfront, because that’s how it works.

  9. I’m not sure you’re going to find what you’re looking for on a cruise. Harmony certainly offers “more” of just about everything due to sheer size. Getaway is also a great ship with tons of activities though. In fact, it’s probably my favorite ship. As far as food, I think the MDR’s on NCL and RCCL are pretty comparable. I may even give RCCL a slight edge. NCL’s specialty venues are much better though, and from the sound of your post, you’d be much happier in specialty restaurants, so for food quality, I would probably go with NCL. As far as wine, the offerings on ships tend to be pretty abysmal. Especially the ones that are included in the beverage packages. You can get some better ones by the bottle, but they’re pricey. If you’re planning to get the UBP, you do get 20% off of bottles. But there’s also an 18% gratuity, so it basically evens out. If QUALITY wine is super important to you, I would probably be prepared to bring my own and pay the corkage fee. Or, know that you can get some decent ones on board, but be prepared to overpay for it. I love to cruise for a variety of different reasons, but I’ve also cruised a lot, and I know where to set my expectations. And I would never expect true fine dining experience on any mainstream cruise line. If you can go with that mindset and enjoy it for what it is, you’ll have a great time.

  10. The major problem with Epic, as well as the breakaway and Breakaway plus class, is the crowding on the pool deck. It’s the one thing that really tends to turn people off. The pool deck is the only place I’ve ever felt crowded on any of those ships. For me, the pool deck isn’t really that big a deal, so it doesn’t effect my cruise at all. Epic also has the added misfortune of the terrible room layout. Like anything else, some people don’t mind it. Some people HATE it. Personally, I’m not really a fan, but it’s not a deal breaker. My least favorite thing about Epic is that it feels very “closed in” compar d to NCL’s other mega ships. I prefer the Breakaway ships mostly because of the Waterfront. I’ve been on Epic twice and they were both great cruises, it just wouldn’t be my first choice when put agains the Breakaway ships. But you can’t compare ANY of NCL’s mega ships to Oasis class. NCL’s ships are very big, but Oasis class are much bigger, and I do think they feel more open just due to the sheer size.

  11. A guarantee is always a gamble. If you’re ok with a cabin literally anywhere, like directly under the pool de k or right above a night club, then by all means, go for it. Also, there are no perks with a guarantee cabin. If you drink at all, the ultimate beverage package is a great perk. I never book guarantees because I would end up spending significantly more than I saved on the room buying drinks. Just not worth it to me. But a lot of people book them and enjoy the gamble. It just depends on what you’re looking for from your cruise.
