  1. We used to stay at the DeVere, but it grew so shabby & tired that we stopped. We have stayed in the Mecure Dolphin in the High St, but haven't been impressed by that either. A few years ago we finally tried Ennios. Love it! Only ten rooms, very nice & clean. The staff are lovely & helpful & the restaurant is very good, but does get booked up quickly. We always choose a front facing room so DH can watch the Red Funnel ferries sailing to & from the Isle of Wight from the terminal over the road. The only downside is that it doesn't have a lift, but the staff will help with luggage or will store it.

  2. Hello, We always eat late dinner and have drink in the Commodore.

The biggest problem we find is the waiters just keep on bringing food.

First crisps and a mixture of nuts, then cold canapes closely followed by hot ones. They will also, if you are not careful, replenish the crisps and nuts. Then dinner calls.

    Rodger.

This made us laugh because it's so true! The freshly cooked crisps are wonderful.

  3. The short answer is, yes.

We will be on QE in QG for 2 weeks in October and would again, (for the 14th time in QG), expect it to be as temperate as always.

Certainly never felt the need to strip off.

    Stewart

Hahaha! I can't get that image out of my head! I'm glad that Steve doesn't overheat in the dining room either ;)

  4. I'm afraid that even with the large choice of pillows, I still have to take my own. An osteopath recommended a travel version of my neck support pillow at home. I also leave it out, I'm not worried if the butler knows that I have a bad neck, lol.

  5. I also very much enjoyed the program. My mom was in the lst group of war brides who sailed on the Queen Mary in early 1946 so I was glad there was a segment on them............Mom and I sailed in the 50's, early 60's to visit my English grandparents and for me, it was a marvelous experience........We were in tourist class but everything seemed so grand.......in those days you had a deck chair assigned to you with a steward, he would wrap a blanket around your legs, serve tea,.............we were in bunk beds in our tiny cabin, but a treat for me, I got top bunk!....on the last voyage in l962, we had access to the lst class lounge for the church service, I had use of the lst class swimming pool..............I agree with Pepper that there should have been a mention of the Queen Elizabeth as she was also instrumental in the war effort..............So glad we have the Queen Mary 2 - will be on board again for the November Caribbean voyage, can hardly wait.......................

What a wonderful history to have! Fantastic programme too.

  6. We have stayed in NYC quite a few times & have stayed in various hotels. The Waldorf Astoria is a beautiful historic hotel, but a 15 minute walk to Times Square. The last few times we have stayed at the Marriott Marquis bang in the middle of Times Square. We love it there as you are in the centre of everything. NYC is the perfect place to walk, the on/off buses are excellent, cabs are good & the Subway is fantastic. Enjoy!

  7. The benefits are:

    The accommodation

    The Service

The Food (including the superb buffet)

    The drinks

(a Long Island Iced Tea is actually a Long Island Iced Tea, not an 'interpretation')

    The Dancing (balls)

    The entertainment

    The quality talks

    The daytime activities

The total lack of pomposity, snobbery, arrogance and bad manners

Last but in no way least are "The Cunarders"

To précis the Cunard benefits in one word, it would be "Class"

Book and you will discover there is no going back.

    Ditto! Excellent post.

  8. Booked a fall trip in the Princess Grill and in addition to covered gratuities any drink $12 or less would be covered (sign for it then credited next day). Has anyone cruised with this offer? Specifically, would it cover a glass or two of wine in the Grill dining room if it was $12 or less per glass? Any thoughts on limits to this offer? Thanks.

We had this in January. The bar staff and sommeliers are extremely helpful. Jul tell them you a on this package & all won be sorted. We had been on in November & other had the deal & there were a few glitches, but in January it was all easy.

  9. We felt the same the first time we went in QG some years ago. We needn't have worried, nor more should you; it's wonderful.

The only problem you will find is not being willing to settle for anything less. Trying QG " once" has cost us a small fortune ever since!

Ditto Gill. Congratulations on getting the trips you wanted :D

  10. Thanks. We've never stayed in an aft suite, but have visited friends on QV in one. We usually book a Q6 guarantee, but this time had to book one of two at the rear. We usually get upgraded to a Q3, but our best was on QE to the Britten suite. I wanted to move in!

  11. We were on the ship from 15 th Dec to 10th Jan and it was fixed, but having said that there were days when, due to weather conditions rocking ship, it was cancelled due to the safety factor in lowering the equipment. Still many broken seats.

re shows I have seen 2 planitarium shows one was not good and the other was great effects and good naration by one of the "movie stars" cant think of his name

    Harrison Ford 😀

  12. Thanks. I've got a (very) big birthday and thought this would be the ideal way to celebrate. We have 2 long cruises booked this year with Celebrity but added this one in for a special little treat.

We travelled on a 3 nighter and had one formal night. Enjoy!

  13. Not that anyone has asked me...but in case anyone can pass this along to Cunrard...I have an idea for the kennels re-fit: Having used the kennels a few times during international moves and will likely again, I can say it is clear there are at least two types of passengers who use the kennels- 1) those who spend as much time as possible watching over their pets while on board and 2) those who sort of "drop off" their pets at the kennels. My advice to Cunard would be to make separate areas for the attentive pet owners to play with their dogs and another area for the "doggy daycare" passengers. It would reduce the work of the kennel master significantly to have an area where dogs are being carefully minded by their owners and also improve the experience of the more attentive pet owners who did not sign up to sort out the behavior of others' pets. Cost to Cunard would be almost nothing.

    Very good idea.

  14. Another legend gone, Did a lot for charity including on the Cunard ships.

Far too many people going already this year from the celeb world.

    Again RIP Sir Terry.:(

We travelled on a TOGS cruise on QV in 2010. It was lovely to meet Sir Terry & other members of the radio 2 team. RIP indeed.

  15. This is exactly what came to my mind when we entered New York harbor on my first crossing. All those people who fled from hunger and misery, searching a better life, when they were greeted by Lady Liberty, how must they have felt? Who could ever forget it?

Us too, every time. Wonderful video.

  16. If it's V525 you're on next week then I'll keep an eye out for you and say hello. Presumably, you look like your avatar so please keep a cocktail glass on hand at all times for recognition purposes.

I look an awful lot like my own avatar, so should be easy to spot. I forgot to join the roll call this time but might get around to it if I can get in front of the game before we leave.

    .

We will see you both on board too. I will look out for the orangutan ;)

  17. I'm so glad you did not have to worry about your clothes once you were onboard. As for the food, that was interesting. I am not a foodie and eat a limited range of food and cannot comment. However, on my last cruise I travelled with a friend who appreciates good food and thought that Cunard's food was much better than he had experienced on Royal Caribbean. Tastes vary. As for Azamara and Celebrity, from the price differences and the comments on here, it is no surprise that you preferred their food.

Cinta, I am sorry to hear about your husband's health issues and your accident. I hope it does not stop you enjoying yourselves. You're obviously committed cruisers if you can return after a heart attack on the ship. Cunard must have done all the right things in the circumstances. :)

Thank you. He had a silent heart attack. He knew he was unwell & went to the doctor as soon as we got home. He thought that he had really bad indigestion. Thank goodness he wentas he was taken straight into hospital from the doctors. He is very well again now :)

  18. This has been a lovely thread. It has been a joy to read. We are on Victoria on 3rd November. Great, but I've put on weight as my husband had a silent heart attack in May on QV ( I eat under stress :()I also fell on Thursday morning whilst on a walk. I now have swollen & bruised knees, hand & arms & cuts on my hands, knees & left arm!!

Hey ho. We are going on our favourite ship, so a couple of long sleeve tops/boleros & stretchy dresses will do :D:D

To the ladies worrying, please don't. You will look fabulous!
