  1. Hi I did rent a scooter from Special Needs at Sea. I also brought my roller walker. I took the anti-inflammatories I take sparingly for rheumetoid and other issues a week before cruise. I pretty much reached all areas on the ship that I wanted to. The elevators are difficult to deal with. They are small and people are always waiting. I parked the roller walker outside of places I went and nobody bothered it. It was a bit harder when using the scooter but not impossible. When going to the complete other side of the ship I would take the scooter. When going to dinner that was closer to my cabin I would use the roller walker. The hallways were a bit tricky because they were so narrow. And surprisingly the staff would huff and/or roll thier eyes when you went to try and get by thier cart with cleaning supplies on it. I felt bad each time they had to move it so I could get by but what was I supposed to do? That being said this was my 1st time on NCL and I have never had staff in general just be so "snippy" and uncaring. I think it is the fact that they accomadate so many pax that they are all overworked. The main issues for me is the Atrium is not big enough. And the smoke permiates throughout and even into a few of the restaurants near by. And as other people have said the pool is just so small it just does not make sense. Anyway I got off the subject of mobility. All in all getting around was not as horrible as some made it out to be. The biggest issue was chasing small elevators and hoping you deal with people who understand and don't give you looks and plain don't care. I had a few but mostly people were decent. Any other questions feel free to ask :)

  2. The shuttles look like golf cart trams and they do fill up quickly and don't hold that many people. Not sure what times they run. I have noticed them mostly on our return trips back to the ship. You will love NCL too. Happy cruising!

Thanks I will try and get in line early :)

  3. There are shuttles at the Nassau port that can also take you to the front of the port. Just FYI. Good luck no matter what you do!

Wow this is such a relief! Thanks so much for posting! I have had a ton of spine surgeries with lots of nerve damage and rheumetiod. I can walk short distances but for the long haul I can't do it. It's all good and I appreciate you taking the time to post that!

I can't believe 1 week from right now I will be TRYING to sleep but will be too excited to fall asleep lol. I am SO ready for this and have not cruised in 5 years! First time NCL cruiser as well. :)

  4. hunnshine, are you able to maneuver the scooter onto the $4 water taxi to Atlantis?

I probably could have but ended up booking the dolphin experience at Blue Lagoon. This is not the one where you swim with the dolphins but just go in the water for about 15 minutes and you can hug them etc. Then after you can go to the beach. I was thinking I would try making it with my cane off the ship and was told sometimes you can take a golf cart to where you take the ferry to Blue Lagoon. I hope so. I am trying not to stress over it and believing I will make it one way or the other.

    Thanks for your response :)

  5. We usually eat a big breakfast on the ship, go to the Melia by taxi van (5$ pp), then have a late lunch on the ship.

Only food we buy is snacks.

Hi I will be sailing Nov 12th and am interested in taking the taxi or bus to Melia. Can you give me an idea of where you get the transportation? I have mobility issues and am not sure I can make it to where they pick up.

I am renting a scooter for on the ship but know that there won't be any kind of vehicle that would accomadate it. If there was I probably would go to Atlantis because I have never been there.

Anyway I am hoping that the transportation is not too far from where you get off the ship. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  6. Never mind... finally found them. By the way, I emailed them and got a prompt response back. The instructions were sent and look very helpful, some good tips.

I really want to do this but am leary about booking something that is not through the cruiseline. Anyone out there that has done this before? How far is the walk from where you get dropped off? How far is Melia from where the ship is docked?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  7. Enjoy! We were on the Breakaway last month and loved it.

Hi there :) Glad you enjoy the Breakaway! I am going in November but am so concerned I made a mistake booking this ship after reading the reviews. I am 53 and have mobility issues due to spine surgeries, rheumetoid arthritis and nerve damage etc.

I know the ship is HUGE and I am going to have to rent a scooter for when I have to go to the other side of the ship. I can walk short distances.

My concerns are from reading reviews that this ship is kinda "choppy" and areas can be extremely overcrowded and have been warned that it is not the best ship for me to be on with a scooter. I am so stressed about this and the overcrowding it has me sick worrying how I will be able to manage getting around. I read getting into an elevator is going to be difficult and the corridors are extremely narrow. And they say forget getting into a pool. Too crowded.

I would appreciate your opinions, thoughts etc. I am also stressed about what I could possibly do in Nassau. I always wanted to see the grounds in Atlantis but I doubt there is a vehicle that would accomadate a scooter. :( Thanks so much for any info you can give.

  8. My husband and I rented a scooter (I believe it was $60) and went down West Bay Street, stopped at the Poopdeck at Sandyport. Fabulous conch and strawberry daiquiris and we just hung out on their beach afterward (we werent into swimming) It was fabulous and we'd absolutely do it again

Hi I will be in Nassau in November off of the Breakaway and I have mobility issues. You said you rented a scooter? Where did you do this? I was in Nassau before and did not get off the ship because just the walk 1/2 way to the straw market from the ship would do me in. I so want to do something this time around. Any help would be appreciated. I would even love to go to Atlantis but I know I couldn't unless I had a scooter.
