  1. Hello,

We will need to get from Canada Place to the airport when our ship gets in on a Monday morning.  There will be 5 of us, including a few car seats and lots of luggage.  I'm reading that 5 person cabs are few and far between.  Is there a car service we can book ahead of time to meet us there and take us to the airport?  I'm looking for whatever is our lowest stress option that morning.

    Thanks!

  2. Just wondering, on port days is their someone to take off Haven guest? My wife and I have booked at 14 day cruise, we have private excursions which start first thing. Just wondering how fast we will be able to get off?

Yes, the concierge will tell you where to assemble and then they'll escort you off the ship. The Haven guests are typically some of the first off the ship, from my previous experience.

  3. On the Jewel class ships (and older ones without a Haven), people in Suites can have breakfast and lunch in their own dining room, which is one of the speciality restaurants, usually Cagneys.

As there is no Haven dining room, there is no special restaurant for suites for evening meals on these ships.

Ahhh thank you! I didn't realize that Jewel class ships had a Haven, but no dedicated restaurant. We've sailed suites in Dawn and Star, and Haven on Epic, but never sailed on Jewel class. Thank you again!!

  4. The Haven setup on the smaller ships is different than on the -away and Escape class. On the smaller ships, there is a Haven courtyard with a plunge pool and hot tubs that is restricted to the use of the larger Haven suites on that deck only.

If you are in a suite that is not on the Haven deck, you get all the normal Haven suite perks (Butler, Concierge, priority tendering / disembarkation, etc) including suites-only breakfast & lunch in Cagney's.

Can you clarify what you mean by "suites only breakfast and lunch in Cagney's"? Thanks!

  5. The benefits you mention are the same whether you are in the Haven or not.

Really the only differences are Haven access and any things specific to particular suites (such as bottles of drinks offered in some rooms)

Thank you!! Looking on the NCL site, it doesn't list concierge service and a few other ones, but someone else had mentioned that the lack of access to the restaurant was the only difference, so I wanted to get clarification before booking. Thanks!!

  6. Hello all,

We usually cruise in the Haven, but we're looking at doing a non-Haven 2 bedroom suite on the Pearl next year. Has anyone does this? Can you verify which of the typical Haven benefits (other than lack of access to the Haven courtyard/restaurant) are not available? There is some ambiguity on the NCL site. Specifically wondering about concierge service, priority tender tickets, things like that. Thank you!!

  7. Wow. Well, I'm the original poster, and I had no intention of starting a debate like this. However, I would like to add a few quick things:

    1) To those of you, who answered my actual question or provided actual useful feedback on the question, THANK YOU!!

    2) To those of you (who have never met me OR my child) who offered all that wonderful parenting advice, I appreciate it, but plan to disregard it. I took my child to an NHL hockey game (2nd row ice!) last weekend, and she was quiet and happy the entire time. She pointed at the lights and smiled when she saw something exciting. She did not cry, fuss, squirm, scream, or whine. If she can keep her cool during a Bruins game, I think she can handle Cirque Dreams without ruining anyone's dinner.

I'm not saying that EVERY child of EVERY age should be brought to a restaurant. I'm just saying that my daughter would be less likely to make a scene at a restaurant than several of the people I see posting on these message boards. No offense meant to any of you :)

  8. We took my 3 year old to the Cirque show on Breakaway, we went the first night as we had the unlimited dinning plan. She loved the show! We asked for the booth seats so that she was seated between the grown ups in our party. It was a blast for us, her and the crew members serving our dinner. Our server remembered our daughter when he saw us the next morning in Garden Cafe. My daughter isn't a picky eater and loved the meal that was served.

Thank you for the feedback!! I'm so glad she/you enjoyed it!! That's a great idea about booth seating.

My daughter is really well behaved and I think she'd love the show, so we're considering it for one of the nights :)

  9. I agree with the other posters. I don't think you should take a toddler to any show or to dinner when the other patrons have to pay for the entertainment or meal.

Thanks for your feedback everyone - my daughter is incredibly well behaved, and I would never take her somewhere that would ruin someone else's experience. If she were to have an off night, I would immediately leave with her - luckily, I am not a rude person, so I would never want to upset anyone else.

Does anyone know the answer to my original question?

  10. Just curious - has anyone ever taken a toddler to the Cirque show? Did you have to pay full price for them? (I assume yes.) I have read that you can take toddlers/kids to specialty restaurants and order from the ship's kids' menu and then don't have to pay for them, but I am assuming this doesn't apply to Cirque. We will be on Epic, if that matters.

    Thanks!!

  11. I am a bit confused about the requirement to book restaurants and shows in advance. We will be on a back to back two week cruise on the Getaway in a Haven Spa cabin during the last week of February and first week of March.

My husband is anxious to book restaurants and shows in advance. However, I thought I read on CC that if you were in a Haven cabin, you could get your concierge to book when you board or even last minute, as on the day you want to eat or see a show. I was under the impression that there are seats set aside in the restaurants and for the shows, reserved for passengers in Haven cabins. I hate the thought of booking so far in advance and I would much prefer to decide "the morning of" if that's an option.

Should we be booking now if we don't want to be disappointed?

I asked recently and was told that Haven passengers should have no problem booking restaurants and shows on board! Hopefully that's true - we're in the Haven on Epic next month and don't plan to book anything ahead of time :)

  12. We recently got back from our cruise with our 16 month old. Having a stroller with us made it much easier to take our little one around and off the ship. It meant having to use elevators all the time even when going up or down when floor, but it meant we didn't have to chase DS when he wanted to explore! We were in the Caribbean, and we brought a car seat to use in cabs, etc. when we went ashore.

Most ships have cartons of milk available in the cafeteria; many will only have them available at breakfast, so you may want to extras for your room for the rest of the day.

I recommend taking advantage of onboard babysitting services, so you and your spouse can have some grownup time together. Some cruiselines only have activities for children over 3, but there are some with nurseries and infant programs, like Disney, Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Most of these cost extra, but you may decide it's worth it.

Did you find that cabs in the ports had seatbelts for car seats, and were patient enough to let you install the seat?

  13. No, the forward facing was cheaper. Yes, I understand the draw of the aft facing. My husband just solved this. He said he wanted to be in the Haven area.

Any other tips I should know before booking in regards to the Haven?

Just know that you're dooming yourself to never being able to sail in a non-suite room again :) We choose to cruise less often and go in suites each time - you'll love it!

  14. We are cruising this weekend with 10 month old son. Not our first cruise, but his first. We are taking both sets of his grandparents with us. Also taking pack n play sheets, Ergo, stroller that is not huge but has good recline, shade, etc., disposable bibs, some baby food (he gets a combo of breast milk, baby food, and table food), a lot of diapers and wipes, extra clothes for both him and us in case of messes since NCL does not have self serve laundry, small packets of laundry detergent designed to wash a few things in the sink, bottle brush and small bottle of dish soap. Probably a lot of other things, but that is what I can think of right now! He does not have sensitive skin, so we are bringing some of our own blankets (muslin swaddles that I use for everything) but using the ship's towels and wash cloths. We had originally booked a balcony room but a kids sail free promo came up and we were able to upgrade to a mini suite for less than we had paid for the balcony, so we do have a bath tub in our room. Oh yeah, I packed the Johnson & Johnson disposable wash cloths with the baby soap already built in.

We are on the Epic on 2/1 with our 16 month old! You'll have to let me know how it goes and if you discover any little secrets about having little ones on the Epic!

I hope you guys have a blast! :)

  15. Awesome!! Thank you everyone! I really appreciate all the replies. We are so excited - 5 weeks from today!

One more question for those of you who have sailed Epic's Haven - I am confused about the Haven Restaurant/Lounge/Courtyard Grill... are these are the same thing or different things? Where is breakfast/lunch served? It sounds like there is dinner available as well? Is this very formal? We will have a 16 month old with us, and I'm planning to bring her to breakfast with us, but wanted to make sure this wouldn't feel inappropriate or anything. (She's very well behaved, luckily.)
