  1. Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has used the ground transport from Sydney Airport to the ship. I just went to book it and then realized it is $62 per person, as there are three of us that's $186 while a cab would be maximum $70 do you get something special on the ground transport?

  2. Accidents can and do happen. It's not so much that Schettino "f...ed up" -- it's his actions immediately following the mishap that most people have a HUGE problem with.

There have been NO reports of Schettino helping just ONE passenger on that ship before he bailed for dry land.

What an insult to his crew -- especially British dancer Rose Metcalf who was one of the last to get off the ship after helping countless passengers, putting them ahead of her as everyone scrambled to get off. And the Hungarian musician who paid with his life in order to save others. Not to mention the other crew members and passengers who met their untimely deaths.

There have been many accounts of bravery and stories of passengers and crew members with boundless courage. Not a single one of them involves Schettino. The moment this personification-of-spinelessness fell into a lifeboat and refused to get back, watching his ship sink while safe on dry land, was the moment Schettino became the BLOODIEST WIMP of a captain the world has ever known!

SO SO SO SO SO WELL SAID

  3. Flame me if you like, but I don't believe the captain was as cowardly as everyone makes him out to be.

Without the radio transmission from the Coast Guard ordering him back on board many I think would have been praising the captain. Instead one piece of damning evidence from the very beginning before any other facts were known has nailed him prematurely in MHI.

Accepted the captain has final responsibility but there is far more to this and the programme the other night asked more questions than gave answers.

Esprit it wasnt so much the getting off but also not one person sighting him or his officers helping us passengers get off, not one and I have spoken to a lot of my other survivors, he was too busy getting chnaged to make sure no one knew he was the captain.

  4. We have had lots of phone calls from reporters some reporters actually thought that Costa would pay for us to go to the memorial on Giglio (what drugs are they on). Costa sent us a letter asking us not to go. There will be a few on the survivors on CBS Morning, and a lot of other interviews done around the world. I have written a short peice for Cruise Critic said no to everyone else that has called thus far.

  5. Michelle, glad things are getting settled with Costa. You need to get that nightmare behind you.

I cruised many times on RCL. It's a good line.

I've also been on Princess several times and enjoyed my cruises with them.

As a comparison, I would say Prin and RCL are similar in cost. Also where Prin is more of an old world feel with darker wood throughout, RCL is bright and light.

I believe you will enjoy your experience with them. Which ship will you be on?

We are travelling on the Mariner of the Seas through ASIA, a touch of a few countries my partner has never been keen on travelling to Asia, but I am hoping this will wet his appetite and her can sleep on board in the comforts:-). I had to promise to leave the children at home :-) not sure that was such a hardship after taking them to Spain alone

  6. SB ... I think in all honesty that the video of plates sliding along the floor was taken some time after the collision and other videos clearly show that to be the case, while some videos show confusion others show an orderley evacuation from the Dining room.

Plus any news channel is unlikely to show scenes that are not going to sensationalise their covering of the sotry.

Hey guys, we were stanindg in the lift lobby outside the dining room at the time of impact tswe heard plates flying accross the dining room, smashing bottles of vinegar people falling over, then within a few minutes hundreds of screming italians running from the dining room screaming, there was no orderly evacuation from the dining room.

  7. Hi all,

Just a quick note to let you know we finally received compensation payments last week. Travel Insurance are now settling our claim as well which I suspect will mean they will tell us that the compensation covered all of our luggage and they will not give us anything :(.

And today we booked another cruise for October next year, unfortunately with another Carnival Line RCL as it was the only one that fitted what we wanted to do. We will not let Schettino ruin our love of cruising :-)

Any advice re sailing with RCL appreciated :-) will be reviewing there forums as we have only sailed Costa and Princess

  8. Damn its not mine...............

The storm last week tossed up something from the seas. A passengers piece of luggage came to shore on Elba, an island north of Giglio.

The following link has video with it. Course unless you speak the language, it's a little hard to understand. ;) The video is still interesting to watch.

  9. Just on your query re personal belongings, the only thing we have been told we will get back is that which is in the safe. I don't know if these are waterproof as my cabin was a blacony on the down side of deck 6. I think the only thing I have in mine is 3 money pouches with cash and now cancelled credit cards, the computer may also be in there but I am unsure.

PS If Australian medicare get there act together I may have my compensation from Costa by the middle of September ( fingers crossed)

  10. I'd like to know how much Today Tonight and the other channels paid this man he already got 50,000 euros for the Canale 5 interview and now these two, I have never asked or recieved a cent. Maybe I shoudl ask costa to pay me 50,000 euros to shut up.

I am sorry I dont think he was in shock or anything else he is a coward plain and simple.

I do not believe he steered the ship I think it was fate that made us end up on that rock.

All of you maritime experts, if he had abondoned ship whilst the ship had a slight tilt after the accident would all have the lifeboats got off? If he had commanded his staff to evacuate with orders over the radio, and told them which way to go into Giglio over the radio with commands, Would more have died or is he just totaly full of crap.

Sorry if this sounds terse the last few days have made the nightmares come back, I havent been sleeping very well.

    Hi Guys,

This supposedly is the first of the English speaking interviews with Captain Coward, they rang me last wednesday and asked me to jump on a plane Wednesday night to go to Rome to be there, unfortunately I couldnt manage it, and don't even know if I would have wanted to. They did Interview myself and katharine at home not sure if any of that is in there or if thats on the cutting room floor.

Schettino is set to make a fortune from these interviews whilst we are still negotiating for a fair settlement it is so unfair. Doesnt Italy have proceeds of crimes legislation.

  12. Okay my cruise critic experts - I need your help, is there any way to identify which lawyers are running class actions in regards to the concordia in various countries.

Yes I know I should have signed up to one by now but I really really hate dealing with them, I first spoke to one in the Uk who stopped talking to me then sent me a letter with a large percentage, then talked to one in Italy who has not responded to emails for the past three months. In the meantime I have been dealing with a Shipping agent here in the land of oz who is representing Costa and seems to be trying to settle things for us.

  13. I wonder what they will do with al the luggage of the passengers once they raise the ship. I would assume mine is wrecked but a lot of the cabins on the up side would still be perfectly dry.

Just an update still received nothing but empty promises from Costa not even the money the promised us months ago for our airfares.

  14. I hope the other people are found as well, i still gives me shivers when I read it all, and the latest titantic bombardment on the TV hasnt helped. John & I and Katharine went out for dinner Friday the 13th of April, to ward off too much reflection, three months on we are still here and coping.

Very broke as Costa still have not made a reasonable offer to us that we felt we could accept. The last one was a bit more than the forst but still unreasonable. In the menatime Winter has hit and I have had to replace coats jeans boots, luggage cameras phones and numerous other items lost.

Having dinenr with some other survivors tommorw night :-)
