  1. Now I feel like this is a challenge! I swim laps every morning before work and have a six pack and no body hair. For me speedos are for laps only, no prancing around a cruise ship or resort.

I am however going to be on the Star 10/10. Maybe I will be that guy...

My wife keeps telling me to rock the speedos !

E-rok...I'm on that sailing too! Join the roll call if you want. I'll be looking for you on the Star with your speedo so if an ole lady taps you on the shoulder and asks if your name is E-rok....that will be me and I'll happily watch you strut your stuff.:p;)

  2. You know Terry, the only person that should wear a skimpy speedo, regardless if they leave it on or take it off, is a Greek God:D! And I stress a Greek God, NOT a GREEK GUY:eek:! There is a BIG difference;) LOL!

But have you seen the statues of the Greek gods? A tiny bit embarrassing if you ask me. :p

The only other thing worse would be a GEEK god! :p

  3. When I began this thread I was not aware there was a brand called Speedo's. I'm older than the brand, I'm sure! ;)

I was referring to the thong type bikini that men wear. Granted I would love to see young, strong, fit, handsome men in them but while on a cruise I usually never see those men.:(

What I do see on ALL my cruises around the pool that blazens itself in my memory and hurts my eyes is the following:

Please forgive me as I don't know how to post a pic here.

Thanks for everyone who added to the fun of this thread and especially those who posted pics!.:D

  4. I might throw in my 2 cents worth - as an aussie male.

It has only been in recent times that the younger aussie males have been moving away from speedos. And I belive that this has had something to do with geater exposure to US TV programes. This is not a go agianst the US.

Every male friend of mine who is now over 30 wore speedos when they were younger and some still do. The beaches in Australia are populated with Speedos as well as board shorts and we all get along.

The only time we wore board shorts was when we were surfing, and that was to stop geting board rash.

I wear speedos , not from the poser point of view, but from comfort. I cannot get comfortable wearing and walking around in wet shorts.

Whilst I swim and sun bath in budgie smugglers, I do put on shorts when walking around the pool area.

I had a conversation with my wife about this subject and when I suggested that I should "conform", she replied, Why should you, if you are comfortable with what you have done for 40 odd years, why change.

So if you see me on the Repo cruise 1st Nov. Dont be affraid. Just say to yourself - AHH must be an Aussie.....

Speedo, speedo, speedo, Oi Oi Oi. LOL

    Cheers Mark

budgie smugglers.:p:D That made me laugh too hard! Thanks!

I do agree that the choice of swimsuit should be directly related to the bather's physical attributes.

As an example, I myself am a 45 year old male. Standing roughly 63 inches, I carry between 365 and 375 pounds (depending on lunch). I have a skin condition that forbades me from any direct exposure to the sun. Which, as a result, grants me the complexion of a decaying corpse. I was, however, blessed with an abundance of body hair. Some have even likened my appearance to an adult alpaca.

All of which is why my swimsuit of choice is, and always has been something a little less modest than a traditional "Speedo". Known in different parts of the world by different names. Whether it's a G-Sting, Thong, Banana Hammock or Grape Smuggler, if it consist of more material than a hanky I can't use it. I've found that these suits not only flatter my figure, but also exposes enough crack to satisfy inner city Detroit.

As with most things, there is an inherit danger to wearing such a suit. On a recent Sailing in the Caribbean the hot climate did cause me to perspire profusely. Which in turn caused my suit to ride up into my "nether regions". Requiring the assistance of 2 cabin stewards and the ship's engineer, along with a 5000 pound winch and a length of anchor chain to help remove the garment. :D

OMG  Very funny.thank you!!!!!:p The visual will stay with me for days! LOL

Here's a quote I heard a short while ago - "What has been seen cannot be unseen".

You said it in a nut shell!;)

  5. I have a speedo one piece bathing costume that I wear every day to go to the local pool to do my lenghts. It has good bust support and keeps my tummy in.

Why all the abuse for people who wear the speedo brand?

I was not referring to the BRAND but what we call Speedo's look like a girls bikini bottom and covers very little and it is on a man.

    LOL Coka! :D

On my last cruise there was a huge man with a huge beer belly and wore silver speedo. It almost blinded me!!! He hung out day and night by the pool. Pretty gross!

SailorJack, I love reading your reviews!!!! Thanks!

  6. Thought I'd lighten up this forum but will probably be sent to the "Lounge"

    So:

What type of cabins do speedo wearers book?

    What are they thinking??????????????

    Do you look?

Do you look away and laugh till you're sick?

    Do you look and grieve?

LOL I personally think speedo's are worse than chair hogs! They really hurt my eyes!!!

OK.. what do you think is appropriate for men to wear in public to the main pool that includes women, teens and children?

  7. Although I appreciate your effort, dates, name of ship, & departure city would be helpful. Such limited information is really of little use. Anybody with more details??

Everything that I've checked on the the NCL site is double for single occupancy. :-(

All NCL cruises are double. No getting around that. The particular one I was writing about is October out of LAX 7 day on the Star.

I really appreciate your telling me that I neglected to write the particulars. :) I'll try to do better in the future.:)

  8. I have to agree with you. I really didn't like Miami, and I am going to try and find a cruise that doesn't sail from there next time. It's expensive, and I prefer people that speak English. Miami is still in America last I heard.

    Fire resistent protection on! :D

No flames from me. My last cruise out of Miami I shared a hotel limo to the cruise port with another couple. We were on the freeway and realized our driver didn't have a clue as to where to go, couldn't read the road signs and was on his cell phone speaking Spanish to someone trying to figure out where to go. The man I shared the ride with read the road signs and he ended up telling the driver which exit and way to go. That was very annoying!!!!!!

Someone lied to you. Belize is most certainly not a "3rd world" country. That phrase seems to get used to describe anywhere that poor people are in evidence.

Belize is a modern country in every way and is quite beautiful with warm, welcoming people. Shame you'll never find that out.

Thanks for that. I'm cruising with my DD and her hubby in January there and the other posts against Belize sort of scared me!

  9. I sailed Carnival Spirit to Mexico last month in a 1A guarantee and it was fine for one or two. Mine had a double bed in it, vanity/desk table, plenty of closet and storage space. I only slept and showered there so it was plenty of room for me and would be ok for 2 if you want to save money.

I was very happy with my cabin and the whole Carnival experience. Great food, great service and great guests too! :D

    Have a great cruise.:)

  10. I'm looking for someplace warm to go in December (solo) out of NY/NJ or Florida. Any suggestions on any singles deals? Ideally, I would prefer a more upscale ship, but will compromise. Anybody know of anything?

NCL Dawn (my favorite ship) and NCL Pearl both going 7 days to the Caribbean for $249-279 pp inside plus. NCL Jewel going 5 days for $179. pp inside plus taxes, fees, etc. Even at 200% that's great pricing IMO.

RCI has a few 150% supplements available for Dec.

    Happy sails:)

  11. What a great thread. Thank you to all of you who posted such beautiful pictures.

Thanks to the poster who mentioned making a calendar from their photo's. I'll do that for my kids at Christmas as we're all going to Alaska in a couple weeks.

Gail..thanks for sharing your sister with us. She is such an inspiration! My prayers are with her and you for being such a terrific sibling! :)

  12. Are they the little 4 cup ones? Do they give you coffee grounds and filters....or ?

What about half & half and Splenda?

Yes..on the Dawn a few weeks ago there was splenda, sugar, nutra sweet etc. and 2 small ( 1 Tbl. each) containers of half and half along with 2 pks of reg. Folgers and 2 decaf. that were prepackaged in a filter. If you like more cream ask room steward to leave more. I think there was tea also. It was a 4 cup coffee maker.

I brought my own coffee but forgot the filters! I brought a small container of powdered hazelnut Coffeemate for our coffee.....it made a decent latte.

You could also bring half and half from the buffet and keep in the fridge.

    Happy cruising!

    Winnie
