  1. I live in the town next to Paramus, NJ and drive into NYC frequently. I would allow about an hour for the drive in, but on a Sunday morning you might be able to make it in 30 minutes as there will probably not be traffic. Be sure to allow extra time for parking, etc. My driving time is just point to point. Most of the motels in Paramus are nice moderate family hotels. There are one or two day rate motels and you want to avoid those. You also might want to consider some of the other towns mentioned as, with the exception of Whippany, they are closer to midtown than Paramus,

  2. We had fun but I'm not sure if NCL is the cruise line for us. I will definitely give it a second chance bc the food and service were great.

Happy to hear that the food and service were good. This will be our first cruise on Norwegian. We usually like Princess but I found the Breakaway intriguing. May I ask what cruise lines you usually use? I know Norwegian Breakaway will be different than Princess and I am looking forward to the new experiences. I am just not sure what people do when they cannot sit by the pool due to either weather or crowds. Do they have many scheduled activities?

  3. I just booked our first cruise on Norwegian on the Breakaway. I got the dining package so we can eat at the specialty restaurants at no extra cost. I want to make all my reservations now. What restaurants should I book? Any lobster at any of them? I was told to book the Cirque show for the first night and it would be free. Does anyone know anything about that? What other shows should I book in advance? I use a walker and have trouble standing in lines so I am trying to do as much in advance as possible. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  4. We are in our 60's and have never cruised Norwegian, but are interested in the Breakaway from New York City to the Bahamas in March 2015. We usually cruise Princess and love that line, but there is something about the Breakaway that sounds intriguing. What do you do when you are in northern waters? We usually sit by the pool and read or relax but will probably not be able to do much of that. Are there plenty of lounge chairs by any indoor pools? Are there interesting activities planned since the outdoor pool is not an option? Do we need to make reservations for anything?

  5. I will be on the January 19 cruise RT Fort Lauderdale. The main reason I booked this cruise was to see the Panama Canal. We booked the excursion being described here. I read Princess' description and it seemed like I could handle this. I am now having second thoughts. I have cardiac issues and mobility issues. I carry nitro with me. I cannot stay in a hot humid area for a prolonged length of time. I cannot walk up many stairs. I believe the ship's review said this would not be an issue. However, I am getting a different opinion reading these reviews. So I guess I have the following basic questions and would greatly appreciate answers.

    1. If I do not go on this excursion, will I still be able to see the Panama Canal, at least parts of it?

    2. Is there any fast walking? I cannot walk fast and sometimes use a rolling walker. I am able to walk short distances without it.

    3. Are the rest rooms handicap accessible?

    4. Will I be able to sit in an air conditioned area if the humidity is too much for me?

    5. Will I be able to sit in a shaded area if sitting outdoors?

This is not a cheap excursion. I feel that I should be able to have a seat in a shaded area. I really do not want to cancel this excursion reservation but am having second thoughts. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  6. You do not say what cruise you are on. However, if you are going to St. Martin, I highly recommend Orient Beach for a first time visit to a clothing optional beach. The beach is gorgeous, everything you need is right there, and, if you decide clothing optional is not for you, you can easily walk to the traditional beach. When we were there, there were people of all ages.

  7. I tried PriceLine with a bid of $100 for a four star hotel in Zones 3,4,or 5. I was rejected. I then added 3 and 1/2 stars and was still rejected. I went to Hotwire and got Best Western Plus Fort Lauderdale Airport South for $129 for one night, January 18, 2014. AARP rate is $161.99, so this was a small savings. Full breakfast is included. I am not familiar with Fort Lauderdale but all reviews say this is close to the airport and Port Everglades. Has anyone stayed here? Are there restaurants close by?

  8. We travel more often and take more time to see the sights. We entertain ourselves rather than our children (which we did when they were young and life focused on them). We eat when and what we want to eat. We do not complain about the food, nor cut up anyone else's food. We think late night is 10 pm. We know the value of elastic waist pants, especially at the end of the cruise. We are not sure why anyone would listen to rap. We need quieter dining areas because DH cannot hear as well as he used to. We put a night light in the bathroom for those late night trips.

We take ourselves less seriously because we have lost loved ones and realize what really is important in life. We have patience for those with limited mobility and envy those with grandchildren. We like seeing others enjoy themselves and move away from people who irritate us so they can enjoy themselves and we don't have to get irritated or complain.

We do not travel during spring break time because we don't have to. We can go whenever we want. We drink an occasional drink because drinking to excess was so 40 years ago. We hate the next morning headache and grogginess because getting going in the morning is tough enough without the hangover.

I actually love being this age. I hold onto every minute and wish I could slow life down.

Reading this made me feel so good. I would love to meet you if we are ever on the same cruise. I have some walking issues and do not like to hold other people back. I plan my excursions accordingly and more frequently plan private tours. I also treasure every day that I am given.
