Most people use TAs for the perks and kickbacks.

We use our travel agent for all our cruises.  Cost us nothing, I like to find my cruises and cabin then we call her she books it and that is that.  Perks are nice but if you have trouble in a foreign country like we did she was Johnny on the spot and helped us get back home.  Would not trade her.

That is entirely up to you. But you must be super-human. To be over 70 and not have a doctor.

we all have some type of doctor for whatever reason.  Some of us are lucky to have very good health even if they are over 70,  No doctor will write a note because they don"t want to be sued/. so therefore I cannot take a cruise and I am healthy

  4. Hi all,

My girlfriend and I are booked on a cruise right after Thanksgiving, but she just recently broke her ankle. The cruise is for her birthday and she still wants to make the most of it, but she will probably not be walking much, if at all, by then. If anyone has ever cruised with a broken ankle/leg, and has any tips/experiences that you wouldn't otherwise think of cruising on two legs, we's certainly like to hear!

    Thanks :)

[/size go for it if the doctor gives the ok. ask for a shower seat. went with a broken ankle four weeks after the surgey. had a travel wheel chair. you can buy one at big box store. the best vacation i ever had. did not get off the ship. could not go in the ocean with booth. but if was free. everything was handycapped accessible. i did not have this at home. if available ask for hc cabin, if not go in regular cabin but go go go

  5. I did see my doctor on Thursday and he prescribed Serc and said that it is BBPV. He told me if I didn't feel at least 60-70% better on Tuesday to see him again and he would send me to an ENT doctor for treatment. I'm sleeping on a wedge and getting up slower and I seem to be OK. But once up, I do feel a little lightheaded at times.

Thank you to all that have responded. I have always taken Bonine when I've sailed before and I will take it again.[/quote

  6. Yeah I'm going to wait and see how my call with my HR department goes tomorrow, they've been great so far although I'm not sure how a vacation smack in the middle of my LOA will go over, and then I'll see what the Ortho says whether I need surgery or not. He ER doctor after looking at the X-rays said most likely I won't need surgery. When both those processes are done, most likely mid week this week, I'll make the decision whether to stick with my room, upgrade to the Grand Suite, or cancel all together and use my insurance. I love hearing everyone's stories so keep them coming. You guys are all amazing and uplifting.

GO GO GO ON THE CRUISE

wE WENT ON OUR CRUISE THREE WEEKS AFTER I BROKE MY ANKLE. WE HAD DOCTORS PERMISSION. TOOK A TRAVELING WHEEL CHAIR COULD NOT GET HANDCAPPED ROOM NONE AVAILABLE

I HAD TWO SURGEYS AND PLATES, SCREWS PINS. COULD NOT GET OFF THE BOAT COULD NOT GET IT WET YET IT WAS MY BEST CRUISE. EVERYTHING WAS ACCESIBLE TO ME. BATHROOMS TABLES AND OF COURSE THE CASINO. ALL THE SHOWS.

MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR A SHOWER SEAT., THAT WAS A BIG HELP. JUST STUCK MY FOOT OUT OF SHOWER AND WAS CLEANED.

  7. Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Regarding the vacant cabin, I've heard that the lines have pre-qualified individuals who will happily accept a last-minute trip. If that's still true with all the TSA requirements, the cruise line received my payment as well as some kind of discounted fare from someone else for the same cabin, or at least for a lower level cabin if they upgraded other passengers into our cabin. Also, I would assume that upgraded passengers would spend more on board, although that would be hard to prove unless you work in that industry. I have also heard that cruise lines make more money from new passengers, although I'd be surprised if that were true for those in our situation. We pay more upfront for suites (rarely discounted), are very generous with onboard purchases (because we can afford more these days) and cost the lines very little with the extra perks we receive (early boarding, small onboard discounts and the like). If it's true that all cruise lines have this attitude toward their best customers, maybe we need to re-think how we spend our vacation dollars. If you work for any of the cruise lines or used to, I would be very interested in your thoughts on this topic.

we also had a medical emergency. no insurance, i loose. it was my own fault never took insurance before why now? sh.... happens. as we found out. i was upset about the way the air tickets were handled. we purchased them through the cruise and we totally lost them.purchase on our own we would have received some compensation. lesson learned

  8. Always, for the extra $75-$100 its well worth it. My wife or I could get sick, break a bone etc.... right before a cruise and if you don't have insurance you could kiss your hard earned money goodbye. Evac from a ship $$$$$$$

We normally rent a house in the Outer Banks for two weeks during the summer, we get the insurance with that.

get the insurance. broke my ankle 10 days before a med cruise no insurance out 7000. my fault no insurance. would i do it ever again never. even for 1000.

  9. Has anyone else NOT received the notice about Splendor cruises being cancelled ? There are six of us ( three couples ) booked on the November 9, 2014 cruise. As of today, only one of us has been sent the letter that ouir cruise is cancelled. Span folders have been checked and nothing there. One of us did get a letter saying that a shore excursion

( FTTF ) was cancelled but that's all.

Once I saw it here on CC I tried calling Carnival's Guest Services which turned out to be a joke. The young lady I talked to confirmed the cruise was gone but when she called up my booking it was gone as well. When I asked about the money I had on deposit she didn't know anything and suggested I call Accounting after the holidays.

Due to a less then brilliant cruise on the Breeze in September the six of us have decieded we are done with Carnival at least until they get their act together and quite possibly forever.

  10. Hello,

After falling and snapping my foot I broke a bone and now I am in a boot an on crutches. I have been told I can not remove the boot to swim and now getting into the water :( I was really looking forward to swimming with stingrays... Well, it will have to wait I guess. I am worried about navigating the ship. I have Been on it, but what about heavy times like after dinner and muster? Will they let me on an elevator without being a sardine? And I am worried about the door of my stateroom. Is there a way they can switch our room to a handicap room? I am very worried.

Thanks for any help, happy cruising!

Gpo have a good time. I did and was in a wheel chair. They had no HC rooms available, the ship is very friendly to us. Tell them when you board. lBefore you go call special needs They will have a seat you can use in the shower. You can buy a leg cover made of plastic or just stick you leg out. The cruise lifted my spirtits go go go

  11. I'm not sure how you arrived at your first statement. I booked an available cabin that happens to be HC. I was warned that I could be bumped if someone else NEEDS it. No problem, I will deal with it if and when it happens. It is mildly annoying that I have booked a year ahead and could be bumped by someone who books within a month of the cruise, but it would and will not ruin my cruise if/when it happens.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. You don't know me, my morals, or the people in my life.

It's interesting that blame is being placed on someone who booked an available room, instead of on the cruise line, TA, or PVP. It's not my fault if they fail to follow through as they should if a HC room is requested.

Several people in this thread have mentioned that they know of people who have been bumped, or were offered that opportunity. I trust that I will be bumped if someone needs the cabin. It's ultimately Carnival's responsibility to make sure that happens.

Sorry you were so troubled booking seven months out. We usually do that also. Recently we booked one month out.

Why because I broke my ankle could not go on our cruise as planned, Doctor gave permission six weeks after surgey to let us go on another cruise. no hc cabins available, did not fight it. really needed to be on a cruise for my mental health. Was it difficult in a regular cabin yes but thank god we could go. I was almost a new person. The people staff and fellow cruises my my day.

  12. Yes buy insurance. You never know what might happen. You could get sick the week before, or get in a wreck on the way to the cruise. There are to many things that could happen. Better safe than sorry.

we never took travel insurance before our up coming cruise. last august we were going on a european cruise, i fell broke my ankle ten days before the cruise was in surgey day of cruise all was lost. we have been on 37 cruises. now we will take insurance on any cruise over x amount.

  13. Some of us love the singing waiters! We were on the Dream a couple weeks ago and looked forward to the nights of singing and dancing in the dining room. Our waiter, a tiny lady from Thailand, would really get into the dancing and was great fun. I guess you can avoid it by going to the specialty restaurants or eating in the buffet.

We'll be on the Breeze transatlantic and can't wait to see what they've done with the ship decor.

We were schedule to go aug 26. But broke ankle need surgery. Very upset no meet and great for silver fox also known as biz. I enjoy all the aspects of the cruise. Kee

ken Byrne the singing md is wonderful

    Best to all

  14. Thanks for starting the thread. We just got off the Dream and now can focus on our next cruise, the Splendor on 9/26/10. Nice to have advice from cruisers who have been on the ship or have info on the Port as we will be arriving 3 days early and staying on Long Beach......keep that info coming;)

we will be on the same sailing. need information on cabins 2470 2473 and 2462

are they the same as on freedom liberty and valor?

  15. I realize this is an old post, but can ANYONE tell me if 2452 (corner aft) on Triumph looks like this room??? The floor plan looks identical, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is!!

anyone know if 2470 on the splendor carnival has two windows? looks like it from the deck plans. anyone please

  16. we are taking our family april 2008 on a cruise out of miami. it is our gift to them. there will be 16 people 5 are children. this will be their vacation for awhile. they need to save what they can and if that means they can go without passports good. i believe in them we have them for dh and self. what will they need birth certificate and photo for children also?

  17. Come guys US Citizens are not the most popular around the world theses days but many of you are risking leaving the country without proper ID. What is with you people outside the country the only thing concidered proper ID IS A PASSPORT!! I am sorry if you feel I have stepped on your toes but it absolutly iludes me why people take suchs risks - those US passports are your "key" to any US Embassy in the world and by the way the caribbean IS NOT THE USA even if these Island are on your doorstep and you do not have the same rights there as you do back home.

Please understand that Passports are not just another cost factor but they are a form of "insurance". If you get thrown into jail (innocent or not) anywhere outdside the US - your passport will get you the help of the Embassy - a birth certificate will not or only with a very segnificant delay.... and I don't think any of you would like to see some of these jails from the inside in most carib. states much less spend more time there than absolutly necessary.

Then there is the medical factor if you need to get home in a hurry from any Island it becames far more difficult without a passport (and remember things are already going wrong - want something else to worry about?) Immigrations might let the actual patient back into the country without a passport for Humane reasons but the family might be required to return via the planned way - in this case ending the cruise as originally planned...

great idea to have a passport. but a large family who will not being going out of the country after trip this is difficult money wise
