  1. Hello DOUG S, former fellow shipmate!

No passenger list, I am sorry to tell you. You are in the exact same position that I was when I booked my Celebrity cruise. I hoped to apply my Royal Caribbean past guest status for credit with Celebrity.

I don't recall what documentation I attempted to use. Informing them that I had been an Anchor & Crown Society member proved useless. Newsletters that I once received are long gone and who even thought to record a membership number! Their data base, I was told, does not go back to our Nordic Prince cruise.

Regretfully, I cannot help you. But, I do hope you succeed in gaining a higher reward tier in their Program. Looking at my signature with my patronage on HAL cruises, I can assure you that such loyalty to a cruise line is well worthwhile.

Incidentally, I really enjoyed the Nordic Prince. Can't recall just where it was, but I saw our "friend" in a Euopean port a few years ago. She was idle at that time, I think. But, I don't think the "breakers" have gotten her yet.

I don't know if this will work but why not try forwarding copies of pix that you took of yourselves onboard the ship. Show the Nordic Prince and some ports and write up your list of ports.

  2. I was taking a cruise from Vancouver to Sydney with my friends from Australia( a family of 6). I had met our Head Waiter on the day of boarding to make sure we had a round table as I had requested and he advised me he would be able to provide an oval table that should suit our needs. I looked at it and was a little concerned but agreed with the table.

That night he was extremly attentive as he turned out to be our Head Waiter. He brought the 2 teenage boys cookies to bring back to their cabin and observed that several of us ordered whipped cream for our desserts. The following nights their were cookies for the boys and a bowl of whipped cream for all the people with a sweet tooth. This lasted for the 4 weeks we were on the ship. He even arranged for us to have the same table for the second leg of our journey.

Yes he made our cruise wonderful and we thanked him accordingly

  3. If you have booked a port side balcony on a Southern Caribbean cruise out of Florida, the ship will be heading south at the beginning when the sun rises in the east. Therefore the morning would be the time to be on your balcony. On the way back, the sun is going to rise on the other side of the ship, so you would have to wait until the afternoon to use the balcony.

Although most balconies on the side of the ship do not have lounge chairs, they have two chairs and a table, you could try asking your stateroom attendant if he could bring you a lounge chair. Can't hurt to ask.

So remember, when picking out a cabin, if you are planning on doing some suntanning on your balcony, think about the cruise itinerary and also consider an aft balcony which is slightly larger and does come with lounge chairs

  4. I know you are saying change is inevitable, but do we change such stables as the Schooner Bar, the Windjammer and the Viking Crowne Lounge. As much as people like these venues, that is as much as people like some of the things that are disappearing on the Quantum. If Royal plans on changing its image, maybe they should let their older cruisers transfer their cruise points to Celebrity who remains more traditional

  5. I agree; it isn't going to attract new people or 'additional revenue' -- because it is being set up like another private club. They already had those with the Diamond lounge/Concierge lounge -- which you needed a card for special access to.

Since we all seem to agree that the VCL is underutilized and I feel that they should not make another private lounge or restuarant there. why not take a page out of Celebrity's book. On the Solstice class ships the best location foe a dining room is the Tuscan Grill/ It faces aft and is a wondrful place to dine especially on sailaways. (I don't know why RCI has not brought this to their fleet). So why could't the VCL, with the best view on any RCI ship, become a new specialty restaurant open to anyone so the could enjoy a good meal and beatuiful views.

  6. I just got off the Oasis TA and without getting into the myriad of problems I found one particular change to the ship very annoying. The Viking Crowne Lounge has always been RCI's trademark lounge where all the passengers could go. I liked to be there for sailaway. No they are making it a private lounge for Suite and Pinnacle guests only. Many people are beginning to feel like this is Cunard. Give us back our lounges

  7. See, them's fightin' words, both here and onboard ship. *sigh*

And thats the whole problem with this subject whenever it is brought up. Nobody can agree. When I started sailing back in the 70's seeing everybody all dressed up on formal night was really nice. My wife liked going out with her husband all dressed up beside her. Over the next 40 years a lot has changed. I still enjoy dressing up for formal night(I wore suits for many years at work, so a tux is so much a better option for me). But now I can understand how people might not want to get dressed up. On the other side of the coin, I want the people who are considering shorts to think if they could get into a fashionable restaurant back home in a pair of shorts. Most of these restaurants require a jacket and tie. On a cruise you are not having a Happy Meal at McDonalds. You are dining in a quality restaurant. Most of the time we are allowed to dress casual. But that still does not mean shorts. On the formal nights I can live with even an open collared shirt if worn with a jacket. I have seen men with string ties or bandanas.

In conclusion, times have changed and we need to accept the way other people think. The new Quantum class ships have a formal dining room. It would be nice if all ships could have that and maybe someday all ships will. Good Sailing, Murf

  8. I used to book JS, but as I got older and started taking longer cruises across the oceans with more chance of motion, I found it became more difficult to get in and out of the tub showers. I would much rather take a stall shower.

On the other side of the coin I am not getting as many C&A points for booking the balcony instead of the JS, but sometimes I can get a great corner aft cabin with a balcony booking

  9. If you want to make the trip an adventure , Amtrak has a station in Ft Lauderdale. if you can get a train from where you live, chances are it will be more expensive than plane, it is a short taxi ride to pier. i have done it from North Jersey and enjoyed it. Even took train to Nola.

  10. We also sailed on the Song of America out of Miami in Oct. of 1987 and I have been trying to determine the DAY, it seems we left and a Saturday, but then I seem to have taken the Sun. addition of Miami Herald with me to the pier ! I may have just "dreamed" that part....LOL...the Song OA just took my breath away the first time I saw her at the terminal. We went to San Juan I do remember that part, but sure would like to find someone who remembers what day the Song sailed. Annnmarie The Villages, Fl

I am almost certain it was a Saturday. I recall that my wife an I only booked Saturday departures on our RCCL cruises except for the Sun Viking which was 10 days. All of the others we arrived and came home on saturday

  11. This thread brought back a lot of memories. Aloha of the Seas- It seems that we had the same taste of ship. We sailed with friends(1st timers) back in 1989. I can remember the Crown Lounge being outside and having to climb those steps on a windy night. My GF and I were wearing dresses and needless to say we gave our husbands a sneak peek. We traveled that cruise to the Carribbean for 10days. We were with a group and the organizer hosted a private party where caviar was served. It was the 1st and last time for that. I also remember that Martinique was one of the ports and that was the only time we have been there. It was not a friendly place.

Like you we have sailed on the Atlantic & Song of Norway. Again with the same friends as above we had inside cabins and at 5am we were awakened with the reverse thrust vibrations.

On a later cruise we were in Grenada and my husband spotted the ship Carousel anchored near us. He said that the ship looked very familiar and after some thought confirmed with an officer on the ship we were on that it was indeed the NP.

I have to agree that the smaller ships were more intimate than the mega ships of today but it hasn't stopped us from booking at least 1 cruise a year.

So far we have sailed 2 Home Lines - 3 Celebrity -5 RCI - 9 NCL and 3 Princess (soon to be 4) and 1 each of Royal Olympic, R ships, Costa and Dolphin. We are always on the look for a different itinerary no matter what ship it may be on.

    Hi Marcia,

You are right. That was special back then. There is something special about small ship cruising. I never kept any records of my ports of call back then, do you remember what all the ports of call on the 10 day cruise. All I can remember is we sailed out of San Juan right after a hurricane and went to Martinque. Good Sailing, Murf

  12. It is very common for passengers to use a CPAP and RCI will gladly help you. Generally there are no outlets near the night tables next to the bed. You will need an extension cord. Most times your cabin steward will provide it as soon as he sees that you have a CPAP. To be safe, you can always ask.

If you use Distilled Water for your Humidifier, it is best if you ask the Special Needs Dept ahead of time. They can best reached at special_needs@rccl.com or (866) 592-7225.

  13. There is so much to say about the benefits of an aft cabin. The views are beautiful and the balconies are bigger.

If you want some cons, you have a longer walk to your cabin( that also means it is less noisy there) and as you indicated you are over a lounge. That is only a problem if you go to bed early or don't find the beat of the music soothing enough to put you to sleep. I have slept with my door open and the outside noises did not bother me.

Book it, you will not regret it. Good Sailing, Murf

  14. I am also looking to figure out my itinerary. I know that I departed and returned to Miami. Pretty certain it was a 7 day cruise that left in 11/85. I have some pix that indicate we stopped in Phillipsburg, St Maarten and Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas. I am not certain about other orts of call. Could be places like San Juan or Antigua. Don't know if we stopped at Coco Cay. Does anyone have any recollection. Your help is appeciated.

The NP was our 2nd RCCL cruise and at that point in time we knew we were not going to change cruise lines.
