  1. We will be in Bermuda for 3 days in June on the Summit. I'm an avid runner and would like to avoid the treadmill. Anyone know any tried and true running routes from the Dockyards area?

  2. We did the Fjords in Aqua and we were able to avoid the overhang by choosing one of the A2 forward cabins. We were in 1517 and really enjoyed the location and the unobstructed view.

We did the same and also enjoyed sitting in the relaxation room at the front of the ship just a few steps from our cabin if it was too cold on the balcony or out on deck.

  3. I think everyone is making this more complicated than it is: retired military=veteran

Yes, but veteran =/= retired military. To be retired military generally means having served 20+ years. For example, my grandfather, father and husband have all served in the military. My grandfather served for 20+ years and retired. He had a retired ID card for the rest of his life. My father served for 6 years. He is a veteran, but not retired military. He doesn't have an ID card, but does have a DD-214. My husband is currently active duty Army. He has an active duty ID card. Clearly, my grandfather, if he were still alive, and my husband would qualify for Celebrity's military rate. The question is, would my dad? He is a veteran but not retired military.

I would hope this change is an example of civilians not understanding military terminology and thinking, for example, that anyone who has been in the military but is no longer active duty is considered retired.

  4. The sailing history on the web is not accurate....the stateroom type is shown as club veranda whether you are in a standard veranda cabin or concierge/aqua class. They do have accurate records if you call...it's only the web site that doesn't differentiate (not a surprise).

Thanks. I knew they must have accurate records somewhere, because it does say I have 5 points and gives my status as Select. I just checked my husband's account and his has all 3 cruises listed under sailing history. And you're right, the AQ cruise is listed as club veranda.

  5. Is there anyone else whose sailing history doesn't match up with their tier credits earned?

We have 5 tier credits, 1 from a 7 night in a veranda in 2010, 2 from a 12 nighter in an oceanview in 2012 and 2 from an 8 nighter in AQ in 2013. On my CC page, it shows me as Select with 5 tier points, but under sailing history it only lists the first, 1 point cruise and says I have 1 tier point. It's always been like that, but I've never worried about it until now. But now with CC changing, I'm worried things are going to get all messed up since all of my cruises aren't showing in my sailing history. I do still have my seapass from the 2013 cruise, so I could prove that one, but I don't think I have anything from the 2012 cruise anymore.

  6. Please excuse me for jumping in, but I saw that Lars has contributed to this posting, and I owe him an enormous thank you!

Lars, you gave us some advice in 2011 that resulted in one of our most memorable and wonderful travel days ever. We visited Alesund on the HAL Eurodam, and we were flirting with the idea of renting a car and driving out into the countryside. You encouraged us to do that, and even plotted out a route for us which included three ferries (complete with links to the ferry schedules), the Geirangerfjord and the Troll Road. Our day was nothing short of spectacular and it's a day we'll never forget. We would have never done it without your advice and encouragement. I looked for you on Cruise Critic when we returned but you seemed to be taking a break. Anyhow....hope you're reading this now because we are very grateful for your help. A belated but huge thanks from us to you!

Would it be possible to get a copy of this itinerary? We will be in Alesund in May and Geirangerfjord is not a port on our cruise, so we'd like to rent a car and do the drive/ferry thing so that we can see it.
