  1. I just got off the Freedom this past Sunday. This was our 3rd time on Freedom and we love the ship. I will agree with some of what the OP stated. The food in the main dining room has definitely gone downhill. The choices are repeated, night after night, although under different names. We even ate dinner in the Windjammer several times because nothing looked appealing in the dining room, which was a first for us. I think several on these boards, across all ships, have said similar things about the dining room food. I was hoping they were wrong but sadly - I did not find that to be the case.

Chair hogs - yes. Although, I did not find it to be any worse than previous cruises. I did witness the pool attendant remove towels several times throughout the week.

We booked a guarantee room this time and so our cabin was very far forward on a low floor, which is not something I would have normally chosen. However, I was pleasantly pleased with the room and location. And one reason is because the forward elevators are used much less than those in aft. I will agree that elevators are crowded on almost every ship I've been on. But I did notice that the elevators stopped on almost every single floor this time because of people riding it for one floor. I don't presume to question if it is needed or not but it was something I observed this time that I had not really in the past. So, in my opinion - for this particular trip, the elevators were used much more frequently than I have experienced in the past.

I had read many negative reviews on Freedom in the past few months and was a little apprehensive about cruising on her again because of them. But the ship is still beautiful, the crew was helpful and friendly for the most part, our weather was perfect, and we had tons of fun. Yes, after cruising with RCCL for the past 15 years - I do notice some things are not what they used to be. But I suspect that this is the case with most of the other mainstream lines as well.

  2. My daughter and nephew were both 2 - 3 pounds under on the Oasis and they did not them ride. They did weigh them. They also weighed my brother-in-law who is somewhat heavy although he was about 5 pounds within the limit. So, in my experience they don't weigh everyone but they will weigh those that look to be on the edge of the limits on either side.

  3. We were in 7708 on Freedom a few years ago. This is an E1 cabin. Booked it mainly for the balcony. We loved it! Heard no noises and didn't notice any vibration. There is the superstructure that has been mentioned already but it didn't bother us. We are on Freedom again in a few weeks. One of our favorite ships.

  4. We were on this same cruise and I am pretty sure that my husband talked with your husband for a while at the pool one day!! We are from Panama City and he asked him a little about living here. I am curious to hear your thoughts on the cruise vs Carnival as we typically always cruise RCCL and this is our 2nd time on Oasis. We had a boardwalk cabin as well - but on deck 12. First time for this type of cabin and we really liked it!

  5. My daughter (age 9) has been on Disney Dream, RCCL Freedom (twice), and RCCL Oasis. She very much preferred the club on Disney. We couldn't keep her out of the Disney club. She does not care much for the clubs on RCCL. She will go a few times during each cruise for certain things. Her reason centers around what you asked. She said that free play on Disney was allowed and not on RCCL. I will say that - just like others have said - although she does not prefer the RCCL clubs she does prefer the RCCL ships which is why we are sailing Oasis again next month.

  6. Quick question...we are sailing on Oasis 5/28. There originally were 9 of us on 3 separate reservations. I was able to make my time dining reservations for all of us online (linking our dining reservations) at the times we wanted right when it opened. Now another person has decided to join us on another separate reservation (she is traveling solo) but when I tried to modify the current reservation to add her it doesn't give me the option of selecting our current time. I called the crown and anchor line to see if they could do it for me...my reasoning is that we already have 9 on the reservation - I know that the table they seat us at will more than likely seat 10 so why wouldn't be able to add her? But the lady was no help and told me it couldn't be done. Is this true? And if so - could I possibly add her by talking to the dining room once we board? Thanks!

  7. My daughter (now 7) has been on DCL Dream, Freedom, and Oasis and hands down prefers the Disney's club. Like you said - we could barely drag her out of the kids club on the Dream. On the Oasis and Freedom - she went 3 or 4 times. And she says the same thing...she likes the free play on Disney and thinks the club itself is more fun. With that being said - she prefers the RCCL ships, especially the pool area.

  8. We have been on Freedom, Oasis, and Disney Dream with our now 7 year old daughter and will be going on Freedom again for this spring break. My daughter has enjoyed all ships equally. I will say that she prefers the kids club on Disney much more than on RCCL. She would have stayed in the kids club on the Dream from the time she woke up until midnight had we let her. On both Freedom and Oasis - she only wanted to go for specific things. The difference that I have been able to gather from her is that the kids club on Disney was much more free play type of activities although there were opportunities for structured play but you did not have to participate and could do other activities if you wanted (dress up, computer, etc....). On RCCL, it seems that most of the activities are structured and everyone must participate. However, she prefers the H2O Zone on Freedom and Oasis to the pool deck/Aqua Duck on Dream. So it kind of evens out. As adults, we prefer RCCL. You won't be disappointed with the Freedom!

  9. Thanks for the info! I am sure we would prefer the JS - just because of the extra room - but not sure if we can swing that financially yet. I am in Panama City, FL and am ecstatic about the news of the Freedom moving to PC because that is an easy drive for us and the port we cruise out of most frequently. I am anxiously waiting for the itinerary's to come out for Sept. 2009 and will then know what type of room we will be able to get. But I really appreciate the information. Thanks!
