New question for the 22/23 WC gang:

Is the port in Monaco easy access to walking around in Monaco?  We've never been and would like to be able to check it out on our own and still get back to the ship easily.  I know it's a tender port but that's all I know....

Walkable but not “navigable”.   We took an extremely long walk that day due to the fact that there were bleachers and barriers all over the place, as they were setting up for the Grand Prix.  My husband and I could see the ship all morning, but kept getting “blocked” from getting there.  It was actually very funny.  At one point, my phone told us to walk 500 ft. and go up the stairs (which were also closed).  When I got tired, we had no choice but to sit down and have a few overpriced drinks!😂

Hi Yes we are!  Garland actually.  It was a great cruise for sure.  And yes, it turned out to be a lot of work, but worth it in the end as we can remember all we did! We're still going through some withdrawal, a week and a half later.

Hey Mike and Becky! Relieved to know I’m not the only one experiencing withdrawal symptoms!  Matt is completely adjusted and happy to be home; I am happy to see family and friends here, but miss the “what’s happening tomorrow?” aspect of four months on a ship🥹 (Dr. and dentist appointments just aren’t the same!). It was fun sharing part of that time with you two!

Yep. Last time on the MMT they streamed it . It’s quite popular in OZ so as we are in Geelong I’m sure a pub or even the Sailing club will have it on. The Geelong ‘Cats’ are the reigning Australian rules champions so you would fit right in.👍

Wow!  Sitting in a Geelong Pub watching my Bengals???  Now THAT would be an experience to remember!!  Now we just need to win some games!

Can I hang out and lurk?

I believe you’ve been “grandfathered in” (sounds better than being called a lurker) after all the time and attention you’ve paid to this roll call.  It’s been fun and we feel much better prepared for this cruise by reading your advice and that of the other experienced world cruisers. Thank you so much for keeping us informed and entertained!

However, my last point.  I think Captain Leo and officers got way into the hero worship that was going on.  I was never comfortable with it.  Did Celebrity treat us great?  Absolutely.  But the hero worship that was going on was uncomfortable.  Especially in light of the new facts - there were people showing exact, matching symptoms.  We all were up on the news, them included, those were obvious potential cases.  I would have respected it far more if they had implemented social distancing, spacing at dinners, spacing in shows.  Maybe there wasn't enough to quarantine to rooms - that would have been awful - but to let us all pack together everywhere, (how many times did we all have to line up in a confined space with people breathing on your neck?)  is where this falls apart for me.  Some precautions should have been taken at the minimum.  I think they got into prancing around deck being honored as heroes.  That's just my take.

I admit I was one who looked at them as heroes...I wanted to be home.  I listened to all the coughs, including the ones in our Happy Hour group,, but trusted “there was no illness onboard”.  I looked at all the officers circulating among the passengers as a way of exuding confidence, so that even when listening to those coughs, I figured we were ok.  I guess this was very naive now, but talk about company loyalty!  Captain Leo was even there to say goodbye to each of us...and I don’t think that was from 6’ away either.  I don’t know...we don’t like the lack of transparency, but are wondering whether it was for our own good??  That makes it totally confusing as to whether hey did the right thing!

CruisinJayne, how can you think the right thing was denying they had cases on board with the symptoms of COVID19? You even admit there were people coughing. That behavior was not for the good of the people you met on your way home.

True...really the wrong way of putting it, but I believe they didn’t  tell us anything in order to get us into San Diego without incident.  I think we all assumed our coughs and colds were just that (see Va man’s comments)...We kept saying we had been in quarantine since we stopped in Puerto Montt on 3/13, and didn’t believe it could be anything else.

  8. We are considering a Viking Ocean Cruise which will take us from San Juan to Barcelona, with six straight days at sea. I usually LOVE sea days, but considering this is six days AND perhaps a cruiseline without a lot of daytime activities, we are wondering whether anyone "out there" has experience with what the Cruise Director staff may do to keep everyone entertained. I can only read for so long, and spa visits are expensive;) We have never sailed Viking Ocean and I don't want to eat and drink 24/7 out of boredom. We usually sail Celebrity and there are trivia games, cooking demos, at least something to do...
