cmh, I'll be on Empress May 11and will have questions for you when you get back.
-
Just stumbled upon this thread. I find that half the onlookers appreciate a man in brief bathing attire, half hate it, and half simply couldn't care less. ( I know, that totals three halves)
Dennis, I'm right there with you. One can never please everyone, all the time - so I also boldly exercise my option.
Got my popcorn too. Pass the salt, if you would be so kind.

By any chance do you have pics of the cruise compasses from the December 3rd sailing? We will be traveling on the December 17th sailing and would love to see some of the onboard activities ahead of time!
There are a few here starting at post 846.

..........Looking for snorkeling, mostly.
Snorkeling in Belize was amazing! We did the Cay Caulker excursion. Knowledgeable guides and the rays and sharks were abundant. This was our favorite excursion.

Thanks for the reply.
I won't need calling capability, but simply to be able to text or message. I'm not familiar with surf or surf and stream. Looks like in have some homework to do.
-
Sorry if this is a stupid question. Is internet streaming required for wifi or is there a wifi package.

...unless you are male, then they may ask you to change your footwear.
You beat me to it. :D
It seems women can get away with virtually anything but we gents are subjected to special scrutiny. Not a complaint, just an observation.
To that end, as long as any shoe doesn't "look" like a flip flop - even if it is - it will more than likely pass muster.

Here's something I cooked up a while back. Gets a few chuckles in the terminal and it makes it very easy to spot.

Elegant nights are those I look forward to because it affords the opportunity to don one's finer apparel. Regardless of whether anyone else dresses, I'll be in a tux or the equivalent.
We gents don't have many occasions to compliment the ladies - this is one of them.

It's been a while - let's rip the band aid off this one.
Society, in large part, seems to embrace the phrase, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
Everyone has personal preferences - and then there are societal norms. Some expected/accepted behaviors are based on hard & fast rules and some are based on preference. Those based on preference are the ones I love to challenge.
When it comes to barely there swimwear, regardless of shape, size, age, gender, or how woolly one may be, half the populous will love it, half will hate it, and the other half simply won't care either way. (I know those are three halves :D)
As some have stated, it comes down to what the individual is comfortable with and how well they handle any attention they may receive.
I'm one who loves to push the envelope. If it's not illegal or immoral, I'm more prone to give it a try than not.
As for brief swimwear, yes, I'm that guy. I know there will come a time when I should probably make a more modest selection but I don't need society to tell me when that might be. I'll be quite content to decide that for myself.

Looks like I plucked a 10 year old nerve. Tee Hee! :D
There are quite a few opinions on bare feet, to which each is entitled, and I certainly can respect each of them. To that end, of the arguments against bare feet in public places, even to the extent of it being illegal or against the health code - which are not true, by the way - all of them can be scientifically, biologically, or practically refuted except one.
That one virtually impossible nut to crack is the matter of preference. People simply think it's gross. It's uncouth. It goes against societal norms and what has been passed down form generation to generation.
As a barefoot runner of 5 years, I'm gradually adopting a more barefoot lifestyle. I wear shoes when I need to but I won't balk at disproving a myth or correcting some bad information when it comes to footwear, or the lack thereof.
I'm not a radical, I will consider the majority. But when misinformation is presented as fact, that's when I'll press the issue.
And I'll be "that guy", barefoot on the blistering hot deck simply because I'm just crazy enough to do it.

I know this thread is ancient but I just feel like stirring the pot a l'il bit.
My opinion is, why not? As long as one's feet are healthy, then, aside from a little dirt which can be washed away, there really is nothing to worry about. Far more pathogens are spread by bare hands than bare feet.

I'm basically an amped up version of my everyday self but I do check my inhibitions while on vacation. And, the older I get, the less it matters what anyone thinks about me or my shenanigans.
We only get one go 'round in life so may as well make the most of it!

Prolly shorts and either a T or golf shirt...along with Xero shoes or soleless sandals. Maybe I'll just forget the shoes altogether. Not sure on that yet.

These all look fabulous! Here's a pic of me from 8 years ago. I plan on a repeat in December.

Another male lurker here.
A scent from back in the the day that absolutely slayed me - still does - is Charlie Blue by Revlon. When a woman walked by wearing that I swear my knees would go weak for an instant.
One that I like for myself is That Man - also by Revlon.

...Bare feet presents health and sanitation issues...
I just stumbled upon this thread and as a barefoot runner and one who embraces a barefoot lifestyle, I would be remiss if I didn't comment.
Many believe bare feet in an environment where food is present is an unhealthy situation - even illegal.
This is a misconception.
Bare feet pose no more of a health/sanitation issue than bare hands. In fact, pathogens are propagated by bare hands more than any other means.
There are more than a few arguments against bare feet and all of them, save one, can be scientifically, medically, or practically refuted. The one argument that trumps all...the one on which most people base their posture... is that of preference.
People don't want to see bare feet in a "restaurant". Fair enough, but know that it is by no means unhealthy or unsanitary.
Just an FYI

This has worked for me in the past:
Place the suit in one of those thin plastic garment bags - you know, the kind you get when you pick up your dry cleaning - and then simply fold that into your checked bag.
Wrinkles, if any, will be minimal.

My wife has narrow feet also and swears by Marmi. Marmi is online and also has retail stores around the US including Philly and NYC.
