I would not plan on that, it is 50/50 at best filling up a large cup with soda.  Usually with a mixed drink, they serve it as it comes in the quantity the recipe calls for.

Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't be doing it to get more, just to save a plastic cup. I can work with whatever though. 🙂

Actually, they make the slushy/icy drinks when you order them.  I drink banana daiquiris and the Chocolate Mocha Getaway and they make them fresh each time and I have never had one that tasted like it didn't have alcohol.  I bring my tervis cups from previous cruises so I get more for the same price and it doesn't melt quickly.

So, the bartenders will put my drink in my Yeti instead of me having to pour into it from another cup?  This is great!! I mean, obviously I dont expect them to fill it to the top, I just hate using single use plastic cups when not absolutely necessary.

  3. I was on this one, too! It is indeed the one that had a crew member (2, actually...1 later in the week from the same accident) pass away, and a medical evacuation. And disembarkation was insane. INSANE. I asked a worker at the port about it and she said she guesses the customs agents had too much of a good time last night since only 4 of them showed up for work this morning. So there were only 4 on duty today.

I'd cruise NCL again in a heartbeat. Out of NYC? Not unless I got one heck of a deal.

  4. We are just arriving back from 7 days aboard the Breakaway in Bermuda. There was a lady who asked for a refund because so many people got sick/hurt (and a crewmember died and all...). She thought she should be reimbursed for the trouble this caused for her... (even though the official announcements were made only regarding a helicopter evacuation for a fellow passenger, and only put us slightly off course...) I'm certain this woman feels she made a horrible mistake going with NCL. Me? Loved it. Saw a lady throw a necklace at and verbally assault a guest services clerk. Did it ruin my trip? Not at all. I laughed it off, just like the clerk did, and went on with my day. I'm normally very empathetic, but this woman was obviously not "normal" (and I use that term very loosely). Go on the cruise. Have fun. If something goes wrong, make the best of it. If you hate it, don't do it again.

Or don't go. Just don't sit and lament about possibly making the wrong decision. Life is what you make it...vacations are, too.

  5. Thanks! We are about 30 miles from NYC port, and according to the captain last night, the heli evacuation went as well as expected and the person made it safely to a hospital. Thankfully, last night was otherwise uneventful!! Bermuda was amazing, and we are seriously considering a land vacation there soon - we just didnt get enough time to really enjoy the beautiful island. :)

  6. So now we are preparing for a helicopter to land onboard the Breakaway!! Captain just told us we were going near the coast of NC so the helicopter can reach us. Word has t that a passenger had a heart attack and someone else s seriously ill.... so many unfortunate things on this cruise!!

  7. Didn't Carnival substantially lower the cost of purchasing cases of bottled water onboard as a response to uhappy guests not being able to being bottled water? I doubt it will happen, but maybe NCL will respond in kind. I'm sure it will take a while, but maybe it will get there.

I don't normally condone the use of bottled water and try to fill my own reusable water bottle as much as possible, but there are times when it just makes sense to have bottled water. For me, one of those times is when something in the water onboard (when I partake in the copious amounts required for Caribbean heat) screws my stomach all to pieces. Yes, it's filtered, no, I'm not drinking my drinks without ice for fear of dying. I don't believe it's contaminated or filtered terribly. I get the same results in Florida and at resorts in tropical areas. It won't kill me, as I've learned that my medical issues never really allow for a happy tummy, but my life is sure easier when I remember to use bottled water in certain places instead (and I'm picky about my bottled water, even).

  8. My, how quick this has taken off!! I just got my email... I was planning on taking some Coke. And by Coke, I don't mean dark, caffeine laden soda. I mean Coca Cola! I'm just not a pepsi gal. I can drink it, just don't prefer it. Especially with my Malibu... Oh well. :( The worst part is really policy starts 2 days before I sail!!

  9. I was also disappointed to see that they were no longer doing the Chef's table as it was the first thing I absolutely knew I needed to do when we decided to cruise with Norwegian. I'm mostly responding because I'm interested in finding out for sure that it's not an option for our trip next month.

  10. We just sailed a week ago on the Getaway with 10 people. I made reservations online the day they opened , but had to book 6 on one reservation and 4 on another of our group's reservations. I called and they told me they can't reserve tables for 10. So, when we boarded, I went around to each restaurant that we had reservations for and combined the 6 and 4 into 1 table for 10.

    Thanks for the info!

  11. I'm going to piggy-back this post instead of making a new one... My question was halfway the same, we're sailing with people in 2 other rooms and want to make reservations together at Teppanyaki for the 10 of us. I think I've read about people paying the surcharge when making reservations - is that correct? I don't mind to front the cash, but know my in-laws will insist on trying to pay us back...sometimes it's easier to just leave everyone on separate checks if possible.

    Thanks!! :)

  12. I'm just over a month away from my sailing and thinking about my previous cruise experiences. I've only sailed Carnival before, and the last time was on the Fascination - Tommy the bartender was absolutely amazing. He was friendly, willing to share about his life and family and ask about mine, and even made some special goodies (moving oragami and roses out of the dailies) for my youngest daughter who joined me several times for Shirley temples. Heck, he even made it a point to introduce me to several officers so I could practice my Italian with them. I don't plan on being a barfly, but being that I'm cruising with my family, and dh's sister and her family, AND his parents, I might need some time away! Which bartender would you recommend I seek out? Is there someone who you found yourself looking forward to talking to at the end of a busy day?

  13. Is the process for replacing a lost passport the same as getting a new one for minors? It's possible she can alert the passport agency that the (not expired, I hope) passport was lost and have them issue a new one (with a fee, I'm sure). I'm divorced, remarried, and have two kids with two different last names - neither of which matches my current last name. I'm the only parent listed on my oldest's birth certificate, and I'm always worried they won't believe me when we check-in to travel, so I carry her birth certificate (along with passport), just in case. My ex and I don't have an awesome relationship anymore due to his new wife's insecurity and stupidity, so it's hard to get things from him.... I pretty much leave him no choice. "Ok, you won't go to the passport office with me to get youngest daughter's passport, so you'll need to fill out this form, get it notarized, and give me a copy of your drivers license." Instead of asking him to sign a travel consent form I just say "To avoid any problems that might screw up youngest daughter's vacation, I need you to sign this form and have it notarized." Asking got me nowhere with him. Lol... I'd keep track of any attempts to get him to sign the documents (letter stating ok to travel or passport form), and it can be taken to court if necessary. A judge (or perhaps a simple threat from a lawyer) can either force him to sign the form, and if he still tries to refuse, a judge can fill out a form authorizing you to get the passport anyway (and maybe hold him in contempt of court!!).

Families get complicated these days, I don't think she's going to have a problem bringing her daughter on the ship even though they know she's getting married on the ship.....But if it's at all possible, I would definitely get at least a form signed by him (even if it can't be notarized for whatever reason) stating that it's ok for her to leave the country. Better safe than sorry, unfortunately.

  14. I hate opening a (good) bottle of champagne and feeling rushed to drink it all in one night or seeing it get poured down the drain the next morning because it was too 'flat' to drink. My solution to this is the smaller bottles (187ml) that are single serving sized. I'm wondering if anyone has taken these aboard and how the corkage fee might work for these sized bottles. I know champagnes by the glass may be limited based on the newest wine menus, so I'd like to bring a few of these just in case there are nights when nothing but bubbles will do :).

  15. Bartenders were somewhat rude I thought. First bartender I encountered said it was difficult and a lot of work to make a Miami Vice (because it requires mixing two separate drinks). He recommended we ordered a Bahama Mama, especially at the busy times of day...

Oh wow!! This blows my mind!! I understand it might take a little longer, but it's not my problem, and I shouldn't be asked to order something else simply because it takes longer to make the drink I like!! Honestly, I'd rather hear "Sorry, we can't make that right now." than for them to suggest I should order something more convenient for them.

  16. You can request extra bottles for the meds (with labels) from the pharmacy. This way you can pack the amount you need in a prescription bottle (just in case). It's what I do if I forget to save empty bottles from the previous month for my trip. I don't want to travel with 30 pulls...but I've seen people arrested for having pills in baggies...and they were prescription pills, not from the street pills. Better safe than sorry in my mind. :)

  17. I'm glad you asked - I'm confused too. All of the sites I've looked at from a Google search tell me that only coins, tokens, or passes are accepted, and if that's the case, that's fine. However, I'd hate to wait in a line to get change or buy tokens only to find that I could've just given them a 5 dollar bill....
