  1. I received an email from RCCl claiming I cancelled my 1/31/22 booking and my deposit was converted to a FCC. Immediately called my TA who knew nothing about it. According to TA RCCL doesn't know what happened. Sailing is sold out and the cabin we had is gone. TA has escalated in Rccl but still no resolution. TA offered last balcony guarantee they have in group but we had a cabin we like, near elevator with beds near door. I would also lose Obc from original next cruise booking. Hopefully Ta will get some resolution from RCCL.

  2. Story was on the news. Wonder why the lights aren't working on the AGIC part of the CARNIVAL MAGIC sign.

Nothing new, only that no one has debarked yet, which is not odd. Docked at 5AM.

I was watching the Galveston Web Cam early this morning. As soon as the gang plank came down two people disembarked with luggage. There were three cars and a lot of people waiting.

  3. My parents are on that ship....can you tell from the web cam if the people that disembarked were wearing any sort of protective clothing? Clearly, we are hopeful for a normal disembark process for all of the passengers but I'm a little nervous.

As far as I could see there was no protective clothing being worn by anyone. I really think your parents will have a normal disembarkation process.

  4. I understand the CDC contacted Carnival also. I do hope, as it is being reported, that she and husband are not exhibiting any symptoms. I read on the WHO website (under the heading Transmission) that men that have recovered from Ebola can transmit the virus through their semen for up to seven weeks afterward. What a nightmare for the room stewards and housekeeping that handle the bedding on cruise ships!

  5. We just got off the Explorer of the Seas 1/21/14 sailing that had to return early due to a large Norovirus outbreak. We did not get sick like a lot of people, for which we are very grateful, so we were able to make the best of the cruise with missed ports, canceled shows, losing two days, etc.

Our problem began when we got off the ship to collect our luggage in the baggage claim area. We were not able to find one of our large bags that contained a lot of our clothing. Now, no-one needs this at the end of any vacation, especially a disappointing cruise, so it was very upsetting . We spent considerable time checking all luggage areas in case the the tag fell off or it was misplaced.

Eventually, after we were told all baggage was off the ship, we noticed that there was only one bag left with the same number and it looked very similar to our bag. It was then that we figured out that someone probably took our bag by mistake leaving theirs behind. We took down all the info from that bag that was on the tag: name, address and phone number and then left the bag with a RCCL representative explaining what we thought had happened. After filling out lost luggage forms we then had to get on our bus to return home :(.

The good news is we were able (with the info from their bag) to contact the people by phone the following morning to confirm that they did indeed have our luggage. What a relief!!!:D They were planning to drive back that day to Bayonne to leave our bag and retrieve theirs. With a few more calls we were able to follow the entire process with a RCCL representative right up until our bag was sent to UPS (for shipment to our home) and we were provided with a tracking number.

We feel very relieved and fortunate! We were able to quickly locate our missing bag ourselves by contacting the couple directly since we had their phone number from the tag on their luggage. It helped us facilitate the process of having our bag returned and shipped to us. The couple that took our luggage by accident returned our bag to Bayonne (we would do the same but these days you never know). Many thanks to them!!

Anyway, if you ever find yourselves missing a bag and there's only one bag left that looks just like yours....well, I hope this post helps ;).

  6. We just got off the Explorer on Wednesday so they could deep clean the ship, it will be very clean for your sailing. You should be fine, of course there's always a chance that someone could bring it on board but that's true for any sailing. As far as warm temperatures, the first full day at sea maybe not but the 2nd full day we were able to sit by the pool in the sun by 10:30 am. Even if it not in the 80's it feels warm because you're leaving from very cold weather. Have a great cruise!

  7. I have been reading these boards for a short while and got lots of good info for our cruise last week. The last thing we expected was to have our vacation cut short as a result of the horrible sickness that broke out just one day after we set sail. My wife and I were very lucky not to have caught the bug (it has not yet been determined exactly what the bug is or how it started) and we felt so bad for all of the passengers that did get hit. A word of advice for anyone sailing would be to prepare yourself by packing fever reducers, anti diarrhea medications, remedies for upset stomach, headache, etc. just in case you are hit by something.(I always have these things in my travel bag, no matter what type of vacation it is) It was nearly impossible to get seen by medical due to the amount of people that became ill. I can't imagine waiting for 4+ hours to be seen if I were feeling as badly as these people were. It is best to be prepared.

My wife and I do truly feel horrible for those stricken, and we also are very disappointed to have our vacation cut short. We made the best of it but there were canceled shows, activities, etc. We appreciate the reimbursements and credits being issued by RCI and understand that they were between a rock and a hard place but that was our vacation for the year. I think next year we will try a land based vacation on the beach.

Our best wishes to all those still suffering. Hope you all feel better soon.

Good advice! We were also on that ship. We cruise a lot so this was not our favorite cruise of course. Although we both had days we thought we might be getting sick, we did not get sick and for that we are extremely grateful!

Having cruised many times we try to "roll with the punches" and make the best of things: missed ports, canceled shows, changes in itinerary and on another cruise also had to return early. Then we got off the ship and found out that one of our large bags was missing. That's when I "lost it," that was the straw that broke the camel's back, the coup de grace. That's when I had a little meltdown. Now at home we've been told that our luggage has been located and will be FedExed to us within the next few days so problem solved (at least we hope it is).

For us, given the circumstances we feel that the compensation is fair. However, I can certainly understand that other people may not feel the same way, expecially those that were severely stricken or were on-board celebrating a special occasion or event. Everyone is entitled to their own assessment of the cruise. We love to cruise and have already signed up for our next one (contingent upon our missing luggage being returned ;)).

  9. just returned from Allure sharing a balcony cabin with a friend who smokes and has smoked on the balcony of previous cruises.. she had no problem adhering to the new rules and I never heard a grumble.. when she wanted a smoke she went to one of the designated smoking areas.... as adults we are all used to adjustments and compromises in life, especially if you have spouses and children :)

I think most smokers will be able to adjust to the new smoking policy just fine, although chain smokers may have a harder time. I am wondering how smokers will do if they're quarantined for 3 or 4 days and can't smoke on their balcony anymore. Even an illness doesn't keep some smokers from smoking.....I can't imagine being sick and going through nicotine withdrawal at the same time.

  10. I just returned from the cruise before this one on Jan 16th. Everything was fine on that one and the Captain met his son ( another ship Captain) at one of the ports for lunch. The 3% fee for getting cash at the casino is until you score up to 100 credits on their sheet, then no fee. Thanks for reporting. Kevin

We play blackjack, what exactly does "until you score up to 100 credits on their sheet" mean?

  11. The Junior Suites do not have the perks that Grand Suites have however they are considerably larger than regular balcony rooms. The bathrooms have a tub as well as a shower and are larger. There is a privacy curtain between the beds and the sitting area. Since the room is wider so are the balconies. We have stayed in the Junior Suites on the Explorer many times and will be in one again, leaving this Friday. They have a very large walk in closet. Having been on other cruise lines we've found these to be the largest and best layed out Junior Suites so far.

  12. Please excuse the large font as I am legally blilnd.

How about when I was at a restaurant and I called the Mariachi to come sing at our table....when he got close to me I realized it was only a waiter carring a very large tray. I thought the tray was his big mariachi sombrero. Everyone started to laugh, including myself and the waiter. I really thought he was a mariachi with a big black hat. Blame it on me being as blind as a bat.....Angel

I found out I needed glasses one day when calling and speaking lovingly to my black cat, "Blackie," only to find out I was talking to my black sweat pants I'd left on the floor.
