  1. Hi All-my brother is sailing on carnival the day after Christmas for his honeymoon. He would like to get his soon to be wife a massage but he isn't sure if he should book it in advance or not? I have only sailed on RCCL, but they always have "specials" on the boarding day as well as on port days where you can various services at a discounted rate. Does carnival have anything like this once you board or is he better off just booking it in advance? Thanks so much!

  2. Last week when we were on FOS, someone asked captain Thor this and he said the port is not big enough to accommodate Oasis. However, they are building a new pier/port right now and he said in a few years it will be able to accommodate a ship the size of Oasis and Allure. We could see tons of construction all around us as we were setting sail.

  3. Day 6 – At Sea

Today was a very lazy day, with no particular event on the “must do” list. A little afternoon trip to the casino, with a short nap in the afternoon.

The dinner menu tonight was Jasmine, and was the second formal night. Fewer “formal” folks tonight and some shorts were spotted.  The grandson is still enjoying the Royal Tots club, but is tiring of sitting for 1.5 hours for dinner. To be expected. Overall he has been very, very good.

We went to the Top Tier Event tonight, where they debuted the video showing the float-out of the Quantum. Also the captain talked about the upcoming dry dock. Many of the changes have been discussed before, but one that I had not officially heard was that they are going to convert the three-level main dining room to three separate dining rooms – and go Dynamic Dining. The hotel director mentioned that one will be Silk, another Grand, and did not mention the name of the third. A couple of executives from Miami will be on board on Sunday to talk to the captain and the hotel director and discuss the changes.

I will give my personal reaction to the changes, and I am not in favor. I did not like the idea of Dynamic Dining when it was announced for Quantum. My guess is this will go fleetwide – and quickly. The hotel director mentioned that he thought the Oasis would get it during its drydock, and I bet all will convert as soon as they can do it. I think it’s a big money saver for them, having fewer menus that do not change daily. Time will tell --- and even though I don’t like it, we will be unable to avoid it. Time will tell. OK – off the soapbox.

Skipped the show again tonight and made a small donation, then watched a bit of Casablanca on the poolside screen. There were probably about 30 or so folks watching.

    For those who are interested:

    Captain – Tor Olsen

    Hotel Director – Michael Rasmussen

    Cruise Director – Casey Pelter

    Diamond Concierge – Berty

    One last sea day left  . . . . . more tomorrow.

We went on Freedom last week and have another one booked next summer to do the eastern side. Should I anticipate that these dining room changes will have been made by then?? We love FOS and adored our waiter and assistant waiter-I would be so disappointed if we had to change every night...

  4. A recent cruiser has mentioned additional staterooms on deck 3 and a specialty restaurant on deck 4.

The captain touched upon the dry dock very briefly-just saying that she would be off the water for 3 weeks and during that time would be polished and painted from end to end. No mention was made about adding rooms or eateries (those could happen but he didn't say anything about it at either of the C&A events I went to).

  5. Might as well just send all the luggage through if you are going to have to wait for your parents luggage. You can request the same time to get off the ship. If for some reason you don't get the same number, you can just go to guest relations and have it changed.

I am not worried about waiting for the luggage...I just wanted to keep ours incase something happened with the kids and we needed extra clothes or something. You just never know with a 2 and 5 year old....

  6. Thanks so much for all the information everyone...the last part about holding onto the escalator and the luggage is an interesting policy that I was unaware of. We will be traveling with my parents who probably won't keep their luggage so hopefully that will free up some hands to help with the kids. Thanks again!

  7. We are leaving on FOS on August 2 and I have a question about the last day...I know people can hold their luggage and take it off the boat themselves. In order to do this do you have to get off the boat at 630/645 when they call for the self-disembark or can you leave a little later? I will have my two young kids with me so I would rather keep the luggage just in case but I am not sure we could get off the ship by 645...TIA!

  8. Hi-has anyone been to this place before in Falmouth? I will be cruising with my kids (2 & 5) and wondering if we can go there or if it is just a bar? And is the pool adults only? Just preparing accordingly...thanks!

  10. Haven't been on an RCCL cruise since 2008 and I was wondering if the y still came around with shooters at the end of dinner? My husband always enjoyed having one after dinner but I didn't know if they still did that?! We are going on Freedom in August.

  11. We will be a group of six (4 adults/2 small kids) flying into MCO the day before our cruise. Originally my plan was to rent a car, drive to Residence Inn at Port Canaveral and do the whole drop off with the rental car etc. well now the cost of a rental (a mini-van to fit all of us) is well over $200 each way and it seems like a better to deal to go with a private company. Right now I have a reservation at a hotel in Orlando as well (so we could take the free shuttle from the airport to the hotel) and then have a private company pick us up in the morning and drive us to the pier. Or I also have a reservation in Cape Canaveral and don't know if we should get a private service from the airport to the hotel when we fly in and then pay the shuttle fee from the hotel to the pier? Logistically I have no idea what makes the most sense and will be the most cost effective. Will these private companies pick up at a hotel instead of at the airport? I have never left out of Port Canaveral and I just want to get this last piece of the puzzle in place and I don't want it to be a disaster!! Suggestions? Thoughts?

  12. I will be going to GC on Freedom this summer and will have my 2 year old and 5 year old with me. I would like to go to a beach for the kids to play for a bit but wasn't sure what beach or how do get there. I don't want to deal with bringing car seats so is there a bus or another mode of transport we could use to get back and forth? Also, which beach would you suggest? We don't need drinks or lounge chairs or anything like that...just a restroom. Thanks so much!!

  13. Hi - does CBS have private transportation or do you travel in a group with other people? We will be a group of six with two small kids that need to be picked up at a hotel in Orlando and brought to Port Canaveral pier and then from the pier to the airport on the way back. Just wondering how they operate and what we should expect! Thanks!

  14. Has anyone used this service before with kids in car seats? Were they clean? Dependable? In decent condition? I am cruising with my two kids that are both still in car seats but would like to avoid lugging them around if possible...thanks!!
