  1. It's probably the sea-water intake for the desalinization plants, the beach pool and for other misc (cooling, etc) needs.

The large opening aft of the bow thrusters is a hole that goes through the keel section to allow an "escape" path for water when the ship is using the thrusters up close to a pier.

This reduces erosion near the piers and, in the case of some piers (because of their design) actually allows the ship to dock.

Without an opening, the tremendous force of the accelerated water causes a high pressure "bubble" of water that acts as a cushion and repels the ship from the dock. The opening allows the pressure to be relieved.

  2. Deck - 12

    Cabin # - 2119

    Class – Sky Suite

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Bath

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Not connecting. Quiet except for some noise from cafe above. Especially the chairs on the tile floor. 2 cabins forward would be better due to carpet location in cafe.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Great view. No sun due to the overhang from deck above.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal.

Was wind a problem? No. The hump blocks a great deal of the wind.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? The height of the shower in the shower/tub combination is only about 5"10" from floor of tub the showerhead. The showerhead is mounted on the ceiling and is not moveable. Not very good for tall people. Side of tub is very high. Short or disabled/elderly may have trouble stepping into tub.

Any other comments? Great location to access the rest of the ship. Very large cabin. Would book again without hesitation in spite of the very few negatives.

  3. Hi-

I have found a great deal of helpful information on the boards about eating gluten free while cruising, and particularly while cruising on a Celebrity ship. This will be my 8th cruise, but my first since finding out that I must eat a gluten-free diet.

I know the general information- that the cruise line prepares special gluten-free meals in the dining room, but that at the buffet I'm on my own and must pick and choose carefully (which I'm ok with).

Just wondering if anyone that has to eat gluten free has any recent experiences on Celebrity and can offer me greater detail about your specific experience? I suppose I'm just curious in general what it's like. ;)

    Thanks in advance!

We just got back from a week on Solstice. They had a basket of Gluten Free bread on the bread table in the cafe every day (and night). Nice.

  4. We just returned from our 16th cruise, and our first on Elation. We booked cabin E255 in the aft section of the ship. Just one comment: If you don't like sleeping, book a cabin back there! Of all the cruises we have been on, this was the noisiest cabin ever. All the noise from the azipods pounds into the room while under way. It was like sleeping in a bass drum! We tried to switch rooms, but the ship was booked full. We made the best of it, but what an experience! Book midship or forward cabins on Elation!
