  1. Thanks to RC's Quest, the craziest, wierdest, wackiest thing I've ever seen in my entire life + on a cruise is my brother without a shirt on, in a bra, holding a purse and wearing lipstick...I think I might skip the Quest this year...

Also, craziest thing that's happened on a cruise I've been on is we had left Turkey, and were about three hours into our voyage towards Greece when the Captain came over the intercom and told us we had to return to Turkey. One passenger on board had had a heart attack and fallen down some stairs, an hour later, another passenger had leaned over a railing and ended up flipping over the railing and fell one floor down.

  2. Wow, I just read the five pages of stories that have been added since last I checked. These are some stories you all have :-) Embarassing and funny, the things we think are traumatizing but laugh at as time wears on. It's good :-) They all made me laugh. I'm sure I'll have another story to add when I return from my cruise in a couple months. Keep the stories coming though! They're good!

  3. I am underage, however, on every RC cruise we've been on, there has been a "Quest" (for those over 18). I've seen the videos, and some things that are involved with the Quest are pretty...interesting. It's during one of the cruise nights, in the Evening Lounge, where people get together as teams, and follow the directions the host gives them. It gets inappropriate really fast, but it's all for fun.

Also, themed dinners on the ship...some people take that pretty seriously and go all out.

  4. We were on Holland America's Oosterdam on formal night. I was wearing my cocktail dress and heals and the boat was a little rockier than usual. As I was trying to walk down the stairs the boat swayed and I lost my balance and practically tumbled down some steps in front of two elderly ladies. My husband just watched me as I "ate it!" :(

It takes a little bit to get used to the rocking. I've fallen over a couple times. Luckily not near some stairs though. However, my family gets inside staterooms on RCCL, which normally has 1-2 top bunks. Normally, I'm the one who gets the top bunk, so I have fallen off them a couple times too due to the ship's movements. P.S. Never go up the ladder to the bunk when the ship is rocking more than average, I fell through the ladder once because of that, and the ladder fell off the bed the second time. Haha.

  5. We all know we have them at some point during vacation. What is your most embarassing moment you've had on your cruise? Whether it be during an excursion, on land, on the ship...doesn't matter. Something you said that you shouldn't have during the Love and Marriage Game Show on RCCL? Did something that might cause extra laughter during the Quest...it's just all for laughs and memories, so spill. This should get interesting.

I don't really have a good one I can think of yet, but I'll post up some more as I think of them. So far, mine is when we were on Voyager in '04. We were on one of the islands, not sure which, but my family and I did a bike excursion. I think it was around 2-4 miles that we covered on the bikes, and we had jeeps that followed us to make sure everything was going all right. It was hot out, and the riding got difficult at some parts, so I walked every now and then. Half way through the excursion, I was pretty behind from the group, so I got back on the bike to catch up, and my bike chain broke. I got even more behind and the guy driving the jeep had to go up to tell the tour guide to wait so I had time to get another bike. Everyone was watching me, and waiting. It was just bad, I think I held up the group for ten minutes or so. Haha, no more bike trips for me.

  6. One of the entertainers for my '04 Voyager cruise was The Platters (jazz band from '50s-'60s era) Dunno if they count, but they had a liking to me lol, they didn't know 12 year olds (at the time- now 16) had any interest in old musical groups like theirs. We ended up buying their CD and they signed it for us, we met up with them again in Johnny Rocket's where they sat with us...quite a group we were.

I almost went on the cruise that Dale Earnhardt Jr. (NASCAR racing driver) went on around the time he won the Daytona 500 but we couldn't get tickets in time...what a bummer that was.

  7. Ziplocs make easy packing, and give your suitcase more space if you fold clothes inside the bags and store them. Also makes it easier to bring sand and shells home (as we always do). Bring some bags of all sizes, you know what you're bringing on the cruise, but you might bring a lot more home.

We bring two copies of our most recent family picture so when we tip our table waiter and room steward at the end of the cruise, we give them our picture with a gift and the tip to remember us. :-)

I bring a journal to write in day to day about the things I did and places I went...as well as have the new friends put their information in it at the end of the cruise so we can continue the friendship after the vacation. Great reminder to look back on years later about all the good memories.

  8. I'm not trying to be negative here because crusie lines have added services and attractions over the years that may make up for these losses. Also I have only been on 8 cruises on various lines. Some may have been discontinued on some lines and not others. Some of these things I don't miss at all. Also I am very pleased that mini-refrigerators are becoming common. If you know of others please post. But these are the things that I think were discontinued:

    anytime lemonade

gifts like fanny packs and win a cruise contests for repeat cruisers

    fruit basket in the rooms

water color prints (suitable for framing) of your ship

    soft serve ice cream

    24 hour pizza station

    some midnight buffets

Royal Caribbean still has soft serve ice cream anytime after the first day of the cruise, and some of its ships have pizza or at least 24 hour food (most of the ships have 24 hour bakeries). And RCCL still has one midnight buffet for the week-long cruises. I'm very lucky on those three. :-)

I do agree with the lack of well-mannered/behaved and well-dressed people on the ships these days. So disrespectful :-/ Sad really but still good to know there's quite a few polite people out there as well.

  9. Besides the memories of the experience? The pictures from the ports and before dinner on RCCL are on my list. We got a video from the Bahamas when we went swimming with the dolphins there, that's awesome to watch especially since it's 7 years old. My favorite actual souvenirs are from Jamaica, bought 3 years apart from each other. The first is a stick-figure person made of wire holding a surf-board with a picture of a sunset on it, it's cool. The second is a porcelin box with another picture of a sunset on it, which I put all the stubs and ship cards in.

Oh yeah, in the Cayman Islands I got a T-Shirt that is black and white but turns into color in the sun. I like that too.
