  1. My 17yo daughter and I went on the Cities of Light cruise as part of our 6 week long trip of Europe this past summer. Viking booked us pre cruise in the Holiday Inn. The hotel was very nice however, the hotel was outside of Old Town or away from anything we wanted to do. Our first day there, we logged 12 miles of walking. That being said, I felt badly for the majority of the guests are retirees, or older then my daughter and I and another mom-daughter couple we met on the trip. Also, there is another Holiday Inn in Old Town which was a much better location but also more expensive. I found that Vikings included tours were not the best, a lot of "this is......you can come back on your free time and pay to go in." Going on another river cruise over Christmas but going with AMA, who will allow 3 people to stay in their suites, unlike Viking.

  2. I'll spare you all the 50 or so pictures we took of the sail away (it really is much nicer than pulling out of Baltimore :o) put here are a couple of South Beach.

Sail away took quite a while since we had to turn around and it was starting to get a little chilly so we figured it was time to head down and grab some dinner. But look what we found.....

Time for lunch and to get a little work done :o. I'll be back with our first night's dining experience.............

So WHERE IS THE COIN??? I really want to see it but I know my 13yo won't have the patience to in her words "look for some dumb coin." Help!!! Love your review by the way and can't wait to go, 3 weeks from this coming Saturday!!!! Mary

  3. We are struggling with finding an excursion on Belize. Bannister Island is on our list...would you recommend it for people who don't snorkel? Do they have a bar and restaurant available.

We went to Bannister Island in 2008 when we took the Western triip on the Legend. The beach is not soft sand but it was fine to swim and they have plenty of chairs to use. My then 9 year old DD had her hair braided and got a henna tattoo. I don't recall eating more then a snack while there. Our 2 adult daughters and 1 son-in-law were also with us. They went kayaking and while walking along the island we saw a group or pod of dolphin swimming. There is a gift shop there which really can't be called a gift shop as it had tshirts-1 print, and little else. After returning to the ship, we went over to Belize and went thru the shops there. Oh, and yes, there was a bar on the island :D. Not an action packed excursion by any means.

  4. I think what you mean is that you have 2 connecting cabins (2 cabins that have a door to connect the cabins) and another cabin adjacent (2 cabins next to each other)...is that correct? We have 2 connecting balcony cabins as well booked for June, and I saw a pic on another thread that showed the connecting cabin lay-out. In that photo, the connecting door was across from the bed, and the couch stayed in it's usual location. Since I will have to visit the Purser's Desk once we board, I am going to put in my request immediately to have the balcony divider unlocked too. If all 3 of your cabins are next door to each other, with no other cabins in between, you can have both dividers unlocked if you wish. Hope this helps...Let us all know about your cruise as soon as you get back!!

    Kim,

Yes, that is exactly what I was trying to say! We have 3 rooms in a row with 2 of the rooms adjoining inside as well since my 9 yo dd will be sharing with her 28 yo sister (whom I'm sure will be keeping much later hours then my 9 yo!) I'm going to head to the pursers as soon as possible to request that the balconies be unlocked! I'm glad to hear that we won't lose our couch. Someone had said that on the Sensation, they did. We sail in 2 weeks!!! I'll report as soon as I get back!

  5. I can't help you with the connecting interior doors question, but to get the balcony dividers opened you need to go to the Pursers desk when you first board the ship and have one representative from each cabin there asking to have the divider opened. They only open a limited number of dividers per sailing which is why you want to ask for it right away.

Thanks for the tip Scott!!! I really want to have access to all 3 rooms via the balconies! I'm hoping the door to the adjoining rooms doesn't make us lose our couch but if it does, oh well. I know on a different class of ships it does but for some reason I thought I saw that on the Glory the door was placed differently. And I just spoke with my step daughter. For some reason I thought we were sailing 3 weeks from tomorrow and it's actually in 2!!!! I better get busy!!!!!

  6. This is my 8th Carnival cruise. In the past we always just sort of "flew by the seat of our pants" regarding excursions and never had a problem. When we took my husbands 2 daughters on their first cruise, we did the same except when we went to Caracas and thankfully we did book that one thru Carnival. We did a Caracas tour. It was just the 4 of us with an English speaking guide and we saw some great sites. Many people got their own taxis for 3/4 of the price we paid but I just wanted to be sure to get what we wanted so we booked thru Carnival. Well, it started to rain, and there was a huge mud slide which wiped out the main road to the ship. We were an hour late back to the ship and they waited for us and some others that they knew were booked thru them. However, our neighbors didn't make it back in time and had to meet us at the next port! There were about 25 people or so that missed the boat that day! So this trip, we're traveling with our 2 older daughters, one with her husband and our 9 year old. I really wanted to take my little one to Xicaret since I loved it many years ago and there's not much else I want to do in Cozumel. So that trip we booked through Carnival. The Caymans I've been to 1/2 a dozen times and have no qualms about using the local guides. In Belize and Roatan, places I haven't yet visited, we're just going to beach it or go see the monkeys so we'll do that on our own too. I just have to be careful when I book a trip that fills alot of the time booked to be in port. Because the ship won't wait, I've seen it happen!

  7. Has anyone ever had an adjoining room on the Legend? We have rooms 7259 adjoining to 7263 and then also 7267 which is next door. Two questions: Do you know if the door that joins the rooms makes the rooms lose the couch to accomodate the door and will the steward open the balconies so that we can be connected that way also? My husband and I are in 1 room that connects to our 28 year old and 9 year old daughters. The next room is our oldest daughter and her husband. We sail 3 weeks from tomorrow and I can't wait!!!! Thanks for any help! Mary:)
