  1. If this topic already exists, and has been answered, I apologize.  I searched for a while and haven't been able to find it.

I'm interested in booking a 14 day Tahiti to Hawaii cruise.  And noticed on several of the listed itineraries that the ship actually stays in port for the first 2 days before departing.  So I'm curious as to whether anyone can check in on either day?

And if you're able to get off the ship, to see the island?

As I intended to fly in the day before to do a little sightseeing before the cruise.

But if we're able to check in on the first day, then still go back out to see the island, I'd prefer this option over booking a hotel.

    Thank you in advance.

  2. My thanks in advance for any info.

Next year I'll be going on a 2 week cruise (NCL) with my siblings.  Leaving Honolulu, and ending in Tahiti.  It'll be our very first time visiting these locations.  And we're very excited.

We want to experience as much as possible.  But have a limited amount of time to spend in Honolulu.  So I was wondering if there were any Hawaiian themed activities on the ship.

For example a Luau.  It's something we definitely want to do.  So if it's on the cruise, then we won't have to search for one on land.

    Again, thanks!

  3. On Escape, there was an extremely cool haunted house set up backstage behind the theater. Some of the performers from MDQ, After Midnight and The Brat Pack, (as well as probably other ship personnel) dressed up, put on makeup, set up props, etc. You'd walk through and they'd scare the living bejeebers out of you. They didn't advertise it very well (*sucks that you missed it, Keith!). When we went through, we were the only passengers around, although I heard there were lines at other times. I was very impressed at the thought and planning that must have gone into it.

Thanks! I was hoping to read a response like this.

Now we all have something to look forward to.

Luckily Halloween falls during our sailing.

  4. If that happened in the Escape last year then I missed it.

Lots of people dressed up, but I never saw a haunted house or anything like that.

I saw the actual 'Freestyle Daily' from that sailing. A haunted house was listed on Halloween night only, just like LrgPizza mentioned.

But other than that, there's very little info about that attraction. That's sad, cause with a little promotion, it could easily be a big hit.

Every year I go to haunted attractions, and they always bring in big crowds.

  5. I'm a big fan of Halloween, and am currently booked on the Escape this Oct, with my family. I've read some online articles about NCL possibly bringing a haunted house to some of their ships, for Halloween.

I heard it already happened on the Escape last Halloween.

So I'm wondering if anyone can confirm if it actually happens on the Escape or any of the NCL ships.

    Any response is appreciated.

    My thanks in advance.

  6. My apologies if this question's been asked before. I didn't have enough time to carefully look through all the posts.

I'm aware of the $15 cost limit each for the 'included' free drinks.

What I'm curious about is exactly how 'Unlimited' are those drinks. There's no real such thing as unlimited.

So my question is, what is the cut-off amount for a day/length of the cruise?

  7. I am going on NCL Gem August 29th from NYC. I looked at the roll call(cruise critic) and fb group for my sailing, unfortunately there is not one solo/single male :(

This sailing has no single supplement.

    No supplement??

I'm surprised. The Gem was my second choice, until the Breakaway came up with a way better itinerary.

And since they have studios, no supplement there either.

  8. I love St Maarten as much as anyone else here. (Maybe even more!) But this thread is waste.

There's no realistic concerns to address. Just basically a thought made out loud.

Cruise lines periodically shuffle around itineraries to keep things fresh and interesting. But in the end, the paying customer comes out winning. When NCL sees large amounts of people choosing cruises for their stop at St Maarten, believe me, they will change!

  9. Already done!

We booked on the NCL Escape for the week of Halloween. (Bringing costumes)

During the week before, we're splitting it between Key West's Halloween festival 'Fantasy Fest', and Universal's 'Halloween Horror Nights'.

That trip is packed to the rim! I can't wait.

I would find a cruise that is out of Tampa or Port Canaveral. Spend the day or so before at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal. Pay the extra cash and get the line jumper pass-whatever it's called. One of my favorite Halloween activities in the USA.
  10. The only port I can see being added is St Maarten. Norwegian doesn't go to Haiti, or Grand Turks, or Dominican Republic.

Bermuda could be a possible stop. But during mid winter, it'll be too cold.

NYC as a port stop isn't likely. That'll be like 'Nowhere' cruise. And most people would probably depart on the 12th day, possibly leaving the ship 70% empty. In which case NCL will lose way too much money. NCL doesn't want any rooms empty! Not even for one day!

Or if all else fails, there's a big chance that they'll just have 2 added sea days. Extra day sailing down. Extra day sailing back up. Simple solution, with no added headaches.

Personally, I hope St Maarten is added as the last port. And make it an overnight stay. That way, there's no rescheduling conflict on all the other port stops.

And I happen to love St Maarten, so it would be perfect.

  11. This is a very interesting thread. Pretty much everyone in here has a valid point.

On one hand, I understand that there has to be much preparation involved that we're unaware of.

Which additional ports to dock at? Arranging with that dock, time length, port charges, additional services. If that port even has a spot open. They could be full on any particular day. The possible readjustment of other port stops to keep sufficient time travel between each one. I can go on and on.

But at the same time I have to agree with the site's lack of notification.

It's a fact that the 'Nowhere' cruises are cancelled. And that there are possible changes to the 12 day cruises.

If there isn't? Then we all wasted our time worrying about nothing.

But if there is? At the very least put a damn note letting people know. A sticky note! Anything! Or freeze all new bookings till it's resolved.

I was considering this cruise, but can't book it until this matter is fixed.

Like many others, I don't have the luxury to wing it. We need an exact schedule to work with. To arrange around.

I hope that I'm not aggravating anyone, as it is not my intent.

Like I said before, you all have valid points.

    And I agree with them.

  12. Disney does Halloween right! They have multiple Halloween themed cruises during September and October.

Thanks! I read about how good their parties are. And they celebrate it more than anyone else. In Sept and Oct.

But we're not traveling with any kids. So we'll kinda feel out of place on a disney cruise.

  13. There's a lot of great info on this thread. When I booked my cruise for next year, I had also picked the shore exc credit offer. But didn't know I had to call to redeem it.

So only one last piece of info missing.

If the excursions were already booked online (which was paid full price), do I receive the credit difference as a refund, OBC, or did I lose the credit deal entirely?

Thanks in advance for any answer.
