  1. My first cruise was with a P&O ship as well.

First class passengers were not allowed to mix with the riff raff. Some young people who were travelling with their families in First would climb over the barrier to join us on the fun side.

Every table had one bottle or red wine and one bottle of white at every dinner. The table next to us did not drink at all, so they gave us their wine every night.

  2. My first cabin shared with strangers was back in '71. It was cheaper than flying to Australia at the time and a lot of fun. The bathroom was down the hall. Most of the passengers were young people going to work in Australia so there was a lot of action on that ship. 🙂

A few years later I took a ship from Australia to Africa and shared a cabin with 3 strange women. We had our own bathroom on that cruise so it seemed really luxurious. LOL  I made amazing, life-long friends with a couple of my roomies.

I think most cruise lines did this  back then but I can't imagine them doing it today. I especially can't imagine sharing with a strange man. I think that was a Princess cruise. If I had to guess, this was maybe 30 years ago.

I have a friend who met a guy on a cruise.  By the end of the 7-day cruise she had moved into his cabin.

They recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary!

That's how my brother met his wife. Years ago he and his daughter were put in a shared cabin with two other people - mixed sexes!

Now explain "shared cabin."  How does that happen with strangers?  Or was he set up by someone?

I can't explain it. Years ago I chose shared accommodation on cruises but was put in with other women. One of the girls in our cabin was on her honeymoon and they could not afford a double cruising from Vancouver to Australia. Every afternoon the other 4 women and I would leave the cabin for a set period of time to give the couple some privacy.

I was rather shocked when my SIL told me that they met on a major cruiseline when they cruised out of Singapore.  I think there were 2 men, 3 women and my young niece. I know that neither my brother or SIL knew any of the others but the adults were all teachers, so perhaps it was set up by someone outside the cruise line.  "Anyone willing to share a cabin with 4 other teachers for a really cheap cruise?"

Anyway, DB and SIL are currently travelling and off the grid so I can't ask. I always thought the story was bizarre.

I carry a small crossbody purse around the ship with me. I never know what to do with it at dinner (or any other meal). I’ve tried hanging it from the chair but that never works, so I usually wear it. There has to be a better solution. (Leaving it behind in my stateroom isn’t an option). What do you do with your purse at dinner?

I think that the major benefit of a tiny, virtually weightless crossbody purse is that you don't have to put it down. I carry one that compliments my clothes and forget it is there until I need something in it.

  5. youtube is the best place to go for zumba videos. You just search "zumba + song name" and your favourite song will come up with videos from various instructors. No copyright problems.

I prefer Latin, so Claudio Lopez Utreras is a favourite with me because he has most of my favourite zumba songs but there is lots of Zumba Gold available as well.

You can get entire workout videos as well, with warm ups and cool downs.

As to  shoes, I had tried some of the top recommended shoes for zumba but prefer my Bloch split dance shoes. The heel on mine is not high and I find they give me perfect flexibility with just the right amount of slipperiness. I thought the zumba shoes were too stiff.

When I was in Argentina a few years ago, I bought a couple of pairs of custom tango shoes. When I picked them up, the salesman grabbed me and danced a tango across the store floor to test them. Maybe that is what we need to do for testing zumba shoes- run a video in the corner of the store so customers can test them dancing. LOL

  6. I used to participate in about 5 zumba classes a week, but had to stop due to bad knees. At the end, I would dance my heart out for an hour and after class I could barely walk to the car. Now, two years, two new knees, and several pounds later, I am anxious to dance again.

My all time favourite youtube instructor is Claudio Lopez Utreras from Chile.  He has a lot of videos out with great music.  Unfortunately, my knees are still not up to doing justice to an hour at his pace. In the meantime, I have discovered that I can easily follow the fitness routines of ZDancerLiz. Her routines are too wimpy for serious zumba dancers but are perfect for seniors or the otherwise less fit. There are no sharp turns (although you can throw some in if you wish) and they only last from 30 to 40 minutes. Perfect for seniors who are either recovering or just want to keep on dancing once they can no longer do it at their previous level.

I miss zumba at the club and can't wait to get back once the world returns to normal. I will be ready!

For twenty years my husband and I have been laughing and telling the story of how our wedding cake got messed up at our hometown wedding.  The baker mixed up orders and our cake was delivered to the couple that was getting married the following next day and we got theirs!

Well, two decades later, last year my husband and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on Anthem of the Seas in the Radiance conference center.  We ordered a decorated sheet cake still thinking about how our original wedding cake was delivered to the wrong place.

The cake was supposed to say, "Congratulations Mr and Mrs Skarne".  Imagine our surprise when the cake showed up and emblazoned in frosting was: "Congratulations Mr and Mrs Radiance" - The baker had written the name of the conference room on the cake instead of our last name!  At least it made it to the right place because the name of the conference room was written in frosting!

Good one. 😄  This was one of those time in life when it pays to have a sense of humour. Some people would go berserk and others would simply laugh at the absurdity. You could get some really good jokes in your speeches.

I have to wonder though: did you like the hometown wedding cake nearly as much as your own?  Plus, my more practical mind wonders how the bakery compensated you.

This item simply reinforces why a balcony is mandatory when we cruise.  Being locked up in your cabin 24/7 would be somewhat less onerous with a balcony.  It would be a gruesome prospect deep in the bowels of the ship in an inside cabin.

I agree. Two weeks (or even a day) without fresh air and sunshine would be hell. Send good food to my cabin several times a day and I can be quite happy on the balcony with a good book. I would just prefer the quarantine to come at the end of the cruise, rather than the beginning.

  9. Many skip them, but others enjoy them very much. And the nice thing about O shows is that, unlike on the mega ships, you do not have to book them in advance or arrive an hour early to get a seat.

Some of these "no name" performers are surprisingly talented.

  10. Were the lady in the hospital's eyes very recently done? the day I had mine microbladed, I told DH that I was going to keep a paper bag on my head until they healed. But I did the reading, knew what to expect, and in two weeks I was thrilled. I kept looking in the mirror, not believing those beautiful brows were mine. :)

Last time we flew, the lady who took our passes had just had hers done. I felt sorry for her having to work with them like that, because they were really black, but I am sure that by now they look great. Most people would have thought she looked odd without knowing why.

When I had the touchup after a month, I expected they would look ridiculous again, but they did not. Just a little darker than normal for a short time.

It is definitely important to see pictures of the beautician's work.

If anything, mine look too natural. I hoped to look gorgeous when they were done. LOL

  11. I had mine done a year ago and am very happy with the decision. She followed the line of my natural eyebrow and it just kind of fills in the bald spots. I use a little extra eyebrow pencil with makeup sometimes but it is so easy to get it right because the perfect line is already there. Before this was done I would never leave the house without putting my brows on.

I would say a month before a cruise if you will be swimming. And use waterproof sunscreen so they don’t fade.

And remember that microblading only lasts about a year. Touchups are a lot cheaper. I will probably go about 14 months without having mine touched up. It is already been 12 months and they still look pretty good

Go to someone experienced to get them done. I once saw a woman who had eyebrows like zebra stripes. The daughter, who did them, used her mother’s brows as an example to go to her to get mine done. I was horrified by how awful they looked.

I have never noticed any other bad ones and microblading is now pretty Common. Even the lady with the zebra brows only had to fill them in a bit. Or get them properly touched up.

By the way, after the touchup they do not look so black and shiny as the first time because the procedure is less intensive.

  12. I am really tired now and probably won’t answer till tomorrow, but is there anything specific you would like to know?

Have them done when you have nothing special planned for two weeks. It looks really black and offer my first

  13. Thanks, I'll post there as well. It's a Norwegian Fjord cruise out of Copenhagen. Maybe she'll find some German playmates. Maybe she'll even start speaking English, but I can't count on that!

This could be a great opportunity for your daughter. It will be good for her to speak with people who cannot speak German. She might surprise you.

Consider this an excellent learning opportunity.
