  1. Following this topic.  We also hope to visit. Such a beautiful place. They do have a shuttle but at present it picks up only at two inland hotels.  I wonder how available cabs would be?  We have a very short stay in Akureyri, 12-6PM.

We are on the Vista arriving at Trieste on 1 May.  We have booked a private limo transfer to Venice with Oceania.   Normally I would go by train but 1 May is a MAJOR holiday in Italy and many trains are not running (or not presently scheduled to run).   We are not staying in Venice itself but out on the island of Murano.  We have been to Venice a lot of times (on business and pleasure and for parties) so actual Venice isn't much interest.  But we DO want to have lunch at the Locanda Cipriani on Torcello where we have been a number of times.  And Murano is more convenient...   I plan to have the car drop us at the Piazzale Roma in Venice and the hotel will send a boat to collect us from there...   You could do something similar depending on where your hotel in Venice is located.  OR go to the airport and take an Allilaguna boat (€8 I think) to Venice.   If you do that you are only allowed 1 large-ish suitcase.  Ask your TA to set this up.

Thanks for that info.  Very helpful.  It would appear we are on the same cruise.  We chose it because it’s our 30th  anniversary and love Valletta.  Planning to fly in several days early.

  3. So my first venture with Oceania has hit a snag. We will disembark at Triest which appears quite far from Venice.
Will Oceania offer a post-cruise tour to Venice?  Or even a post-cruise hotel offer in Venice with some sort of transfer?  If an hotel offer,  does anyone know which hotels they use?

Though we’d barely do it justice, we’d hoped  to stay over a day to at least get a glimpse of Venice, and hoped Oceania would provide a transfer to the city plus an add-on hotel and tour.  I might add that our cruise departs from Valetta, and ended — we thought — near Venice proper.

    Thanks for any guidance.

  4. So I am new to Oceania, but have found a dream itinerary for our 30th anniversary in April.   Is it fair to say that this cruise line is in a state of flux and getting ready to make some packaging changes?  If so, what is the general consensus from the experts here? Should I book under the old “O” packages or wait and see what is new?   We would be looking at a concierge level cabin on the Vista, and we would probably want a drink package and several excursions. Many thanks for any advice.

  5. HAL newbie here.  I have a hold on adjoining veranda cabins 4168 & 4170 for Rotterdam’s  11-3-21 sailing.  Can anyone give me an idea what these cabins  might be like, particularly the balconies?  (We live on our balconies.)  These cabins are in the aft-most bump out, and look be comparable to 4170 & 4172 on the Rotterdam.  The balconies are extra deep and appear to extend out over the kitchens.  I managed to book these quite easily on HAL after a couple of agencies were unable to score me anything comparable, so . . . are they duds?  Do they catch kitchen racket?  Odor?  Impaired view?  Can the balconies be opened onto each other?

And would anyone care to make odds on whether the Rotterdam will actually sail on schedule?

    TIA, and happy cruising.

  6. We just returned from Cannes where my family of seven toured with Ingrid of Kultours based in Nice. This was our second cruise along the French Riviera and one of many trips to France, and Ingrid was by far the best guide we'd ever had in France. Flawless grasp of history and culture. She gave us a very detailed tour because we were looking for a lot of historical context, but she was also just amazingly fun. Cannot recommend her highly enough. I won't list all we did, but was a breeze to see Eze, Saint Paul and Nice. We also visited Monte Carlo and drove the track, a thrill for our kids, and just drove around the whole area in general. Hope that helps. Happy to answer questions.
