  1. How much do you want to spend on a hotel? Do you have a total budget for hotel, pier transportation if required, and parking,if required?

I am seeing a lot of park/sleeps for your date. The most budget conscious one would be two nights at $117 incl tax and 14 days parking. This would require an additional $100 for round trip port transportation. With a car you can easily drive to Secaucus Junction station, pay to park, and take the train to NYC or you can drive to Journal Square in Jersey City, pay to park, and take Path into midtown or downtown NYC.

Staten Island is not going to be as convenient for running in and out of NY or for coming from Canada.

Thanks again for your suggestions. Where are you seeing the park/sleeps that are available? Would it be safer for the car to be parked at a hotel in the Secaucus area than at the Liberty cruise port parking area? I was hoping to take public transit from the hotel into NYC without driving in the city area unless we need to drive to Cape Liberty to park there. We are from a rural area and would like to avoid driving in the

    city unless necessary. Cindy

  2. Thankyou for your detailed instuctions after exiting at 14A. Yes signs would be helpful. We are staying for 2 nights precruise out of Cape Liberty in order to visit NYC. It will be Oct 25,26,this year. We got a last min deal on Explorer of the Seas to Bermuda where we honeymooned 39 years ago. Therefore I am trying to arange last min. accommodations. I have read about Elizabeth NJ and the Staten island hotels. Which would be easier for public transit into NYC. I have stayed in Manhatten before and used the subway around the Penn Station. We will have a car and therefore are looking to park at Cape Liberty or find a park and cruise hotel package. I have heard that cars can be frequently damaged at the Cruise port parking but am I only hearing the bad stories? Would you recommend a park and cruise pkg instead? And is Elizabeth NJ or the hotels in the Staten Island area easier for public transportation into NYC. Many of the reccommended hotels are already fully booked. I have a friends and family link for the Comfort Inns,Clarion,Quality Inn but have not seen any of this chain recommended on cruise critic in the above mentioned areas. Thanks for any advice you can give me

  3. I live in Stockholm and love all the cruiseships that are comming here all the summer.

Do you need any information about the town or transportation, just ask and I will try to answer....

We arrive Tues May 21,2013 on the Emerald princess from 7am to 2pm at Frihamnen port. With such a short time I am concerned about how to schedule my day and what modes of transportation would be best.

Would the kiosk on the quay be open that early to buy loose coupons for the bus? Sounds like there might be a shuttle from the quay to the City Hall area but then it would be too early for a city hall tour? Sounds like sjovagen harbour commuter boat has some stops at Frihamnen. Would that be good for departing or returning to Frihamnen?

Is there a combo ticket for the Ho Ho bus and boats and what time would they start? It would be nice to do one boat ride if the weather is good.

My husband really isn't into museums when the visit is very short. He doesn't like to be rushed. Would the Vasa or Royal Palace be better for a quick tour for a man?

I have read directions for getting into town but what are the transit directions for getting back to Frihamnen?

Any advice you could give for transit and time management would be greatly appreciated.:confused::confused:

  4. Danish Viking,

Thanks for the Emerald Princess pier information. Will Freeport be for both May 12th and May 23rd? I will be travelling from the pier to the Mayfair on a weekday and from the Mayfair to the airport on a Sunday morning. the names Orientkaj and Sundkaj-are they names of bus or metro stops or are they names of something else? Is Copenhagen pedestrian friendly? The web sites that were in Danish are the ones that you have posted on this web. I will purchase a Copenhagen guide book-can anyone recommend a good one? With 4 days in Copenhagen can you recommend a day trip out of the city-for beautiful scenery or hiking. :)

  5. Thankyou Danish Viking for one on one consultations. I wish I had seen the deleted thread with your vast knowledge of Copenhagen. We are planning a one day visit on May 12,2013 and then a 3 day visit May23-26th. Our planned hotel is the Clarion Mayfair. Is there a construction site closeby? I tried to access the port info you gave to see what pier the Emerald Princess is at on those 2 dates but I could not access it beyond March. I will need to get from the pier to the hotel and then from the hotel to the airport on May 26th. When I bring up the maps of the city and transit depots the information is in Danish. Is there a way to translate this to English. When I travelled in Italy I was able to do this. Thanks again.

  6. In comparing 2 day tours of SPb I noticed that hardly any include the entrance to the Grand Palace at Peterhof Palace. The gardens and fountains are included in most. Does anyone have feedback on the inside visit to the Grand Palace? Is Catherine Palace a better palace to visit and therefore more frequently visited? One tour operator said that due to time constraints only the gardens were visited at Peterhof and the Palace viewed was Catherine Palace.

Many thanks to all who have shared their information on this topic.
