We are Carnival cruisers who went on the Sky this summer.  The apps are very similar, and are easy to use.  For the most part, I used the daily paper to track activities.

The crew on the sky is great.  The open bar concept is really nice.

    Cagney's is very good.

I do wish the show entertainers worked more with the passengers like they do on Carnival.

You will have a good time on the ship.

Thanks NWA we are a little nervous to try a new cruiseline. We love carnival, hopefully we will love NCL just as much after next week.

Maybe it was refunded....and showed up as OBC and the cruiser missed it.

I'm the cruiser, I haven't cruised yet, leave next Monday.  I called Norwegian and asked about them what their policy was.  You can read above what I stated their response was.

  3. I am currently on the phone with NCL right now. The first person I spoke with after checking 3 times with someone else stated "Norwegian does not issue any refunds or credits for port charges due to missed ports for any reason, they are part of the cruise fare and not charged to you separately." I am currently on hold for a supervisor. There is no way she is correct.  It specifically lists port fees and taxes as a separate. charge on my receipt. I understand this isn't alot of money, it's the point that they are pocketing this port fee if she is correct. Not a good introduction to Norwegian if this is true.

It will be a small amount.  Probably less than $20 per person.

I didn't think it would be much. I know on previous Carnival cruises it was usually around $15 per person. Just want to make sure we actually get it back.  As on a Facebook page people were reporting no refund at all, and one person said they only got $4 for missing two ports which just didn't seem right to me.

Just make sure you download the app and have it available on all devices before you leave.  I made a point to download it on my iPad but didn't think about my iPhone, since it was already there from previous cruises.  Apple had archived it to save space due to lack of recent use.  NCL gives you a free 10 mins of internet to get the app downloaded at sea, but it was so slow that I couldn't get it completed.

    Good advice thank you!

Still do paper for full info

app shows more of highlights but still a lot of info

they have a message part to the app there is a fee to use which is $10 per phone which then gives your phone a number that can be texted or called from either someone else with the app or called from any phone on ship

Thank you! This is what carnival had and is great for finding family and friends on the ship! I don't need the full internet just want to stay in contact with family on the ship!

  7. Hi, I just booked my first Norwegian Freestyle Cruise and I'm super excited! I've cruised 11 times with Carnival, but the lure of some crazy cheap hurricane  season prices and the free at sea offers convinced me to try out NCL! We leave a week from today for a 5 day cruise on the Sky! My questions are, does NCL do there dailies on an app that you can access while ship with your phone, or do they still do paper only?

Also on carnivals on board app they have the option where you can message other people who also have the app while on board. Does Norwegian have anything like this? Thanks

Food and drink: I left this for last. Much to DW's and my surprise Carnival took this category hands-down other than room service (where HAL is hard to beat). Multiple venues for every meal, Steakhouse offerings beat the Pinnacle (best lobster I have had on a ship). The Seafood Shack on board had tempura-fried shrimp, fried clams, lobster rolls, snow crab by the pound, oyster on the half-shell. All these for a minor charge but all worth it. At almost every meal DW or myself would say, Carnival wins on this one. I was not expecting this.

We will be cruising on the Triumph this September for the first time. I read that it doesn't have a steakhouse? So when you mention steakhouse offerings....are these different upcharge offerings in the main dining room? It's been over three years since my last cruise and apparently alot had changed!

  9. I apologize if this has been answered already, but without the search function I'm not finding this here. Here is what I am wondering. Right now we have two staterooms booked one couple in each. Only the men want the cheers program. If we switch rooms at the desk once we get onboard, so the 2 men who want the program are in one room and the 2 women who don't want the program in are in the other room will this work? Or will all 4 of us end up having to purchase the program? I wasn't sure if it is based on the original booking or who is actually listed in the room at the time of purchase. Thanks!

  10. Still working this. Found chev impala for 83$ at the sears location.is that near the airport?

bump - Look at budget car rental. I just did a mock booking through them. I don't know your exact days but I put in March 10th pickup at melbourne and returning March 11th in port canaveral. I got prices anywhere from $30 for a car to $68 for a minivan. I used this discount code: Y937800 I found this code on cruise critic. It is a Florida travel discount code, used successfully by lot's of cc'rs. You can read a thread about it here:

  11. I have done both the Eastern & Western itineraries on the Dream. For both, the elegant nights were on Night 2 & Night 6. I wouldn't think they would do an elegant night on the last night, as most people have stuff packed away and in suitcases sitting in the hallways by then. They are called "elegant" nights now & not "formal" nights, so that people don't feel pressured to go crazy with the dressing up. Several people will still go all out, but you don't have to. Whatever you do, you won't be the only one.

K2 Thanks! We plan on doing only one formal night and going to the Steakhouse on the other one. I wanted to go ahead and make our reservations ahead of time online, so it looks like day 6 it is! Loved your review and pics of the Dream. I have a feeling my teenagers are going to love those slides!

  12. Hi we are going on the Dream in March, Eastern Itinerary. I was wondering if any recent dream cruisers could tell me what night the formal night is? Is there just one or two?

Also I read in a different thread that they are using face recognition kiosks to view your photos now? Does anyone have any details about this? Are they still actually printing your photos to look through or has it gone all digital? Thanks!

  13. If you want to sleep past 5:30 AM DO NOT get this cabin. Right outside the door is the main stewards closet where all the cabin stewards fill their carts with supplies for the day. They started working at 5:30 everymorning and all we heard was this door slamming shut constantly. One morning they even dropped several glasses and they broke in front of our door. When we opened our cabin door around 7:00 am they had just piled up the broken glass and left it there. The room itself was fine but unless you are an early riser avoid this room!
