  1. I've done both bus and taxi. Problem with bus is at the end of the day at Coco Reef we ran into full buses of locals. Buses passed our stop. I think taxi from Hamilton to hotel is $12 + tip each way for 1-4 passengers.

  2. Take the ferry to Hamilton and a taxi to coco reef. Avoids the walk to the bus terminal and the walk down the hill to the resort. The front desk will call a taxi for you when you are ready to leave. Take taxi back to ferry and ferry back to ship.

  3. Thanks Lori -- Cab sounds a bit steep for two people. DH and I are going to use the ferry/bus system to get around. Did you notice how far the resort was from the nearest bus stop?

Two years ago we took the bus to Coco Reef. The stop is right at the university...not too far past Horseshoe Bay. There is a long walk down to the hotel. The hotel staff drove us up on the golf cart when we were leaving. The only problem was that buses were passing us because they were full. Allow time.

We are returning to Coco Reef in two weeks. I read on one of CC sites that the best way to go is to ferry over to Hamilton and then take a taxi right to the hotel. I believe the poster said it was $15 each way. that's what we will do this time.

When in Bermuda, we usually get the bus/ferry pass (we prefer the 3 day pass).

    Hope this helps.

  4. So what's the current status of construction heading from the NJTP to the pier (not the Bayonne Bridge)? I'm heading there on Sunday morning. Will I need to leave early? I haven't heard anything about it on the news, but I'm in Westchester. I keep reading comments about it taking an hour to get to the pier because of construction. Is it the Pulaski Skyway that is involved? Are they closing extra lanes on Sundays?

Pulaski Skyway is closed Northbound for the next two years. (towards Jersey City)

From the NJTP go to exit 14A and follow signs to the pier.

this is NOT the Pulaski Skyway.

  5. We have sailed out of Cape Liberty 11 times. Most recent was May 25th.

We arrived at the pier around 10:15 AM, dropped our luggage off - you can also drop passengers off to at this time, then we proceeded to park. We checked right in and were on the ship at 10:45 AM.

The parking is close but if any of your passengers have mobility issues then they can exit at the tent where you drop off the luggage and wait on one of the benches while the car is parked and you can all go check in together.

They have never even come close to running out of spaces. Also we have found everyone at the pier is friendly and helpful.

Which lot to you park in? What is the cost?

Is there any problem getting back to the lot when you disembark?

We've cruised out of Cape Liberty a number of times, but have never parked there. Always had a car service or a lift from friend or family.

  6. Thank you so much for posting these - especially so quickly.

I have to say, I'm disappointed in the offerings though. There's 2 movies, each shown once only (and while the ship is docked in Bermuda). And it seems like every second "event" is a sale on art, jewlery, spa, etc. The other "events" are mostly bands/duos playing with only a few other activites thrown in.

Our June 1st cruise is obviously set in stone but I think maybe I'll look around to see what works for our November cruise. If I can get something on another cruiseline I may be switching.

Don't be so quick to change your Nov cruise. The Bermuda cruise is different because you are in one port for 3 days. The Equinox is a wonderful ship and it cruises to more ports over a longer time period. Activities on board will be different.

All cruise lines get in their art auctions and special sales. Going from port to port on our Equinox cruise...we were so busy and so in awe of the beautiful ship. See if someone from a more recent cruise can give you an update. We've booked the Summit because it's been solsticized!!

  7. Vicki -

Just curious...why would I pick that place over boatyard/harbor lights?? I'm just asking because obviously you've been there. Thank you :)

We looked into going to Carlisle Bay, but decided against it for several reasons.

First, it was the place that seemed to be talked about by people on the ship...both passengers and staff. We thought it might be very crowded. Second, the description of the water was very different. It's very calm at Carlisle and there's lots of great waves at Accra Beach.

We also thought the idea of getting the "play" money was fun and our group (5 adults) didn't need the activities being offered at the Boatyard. We had our chairs, umbrellas, music, WIFI, drinks, food, and beautiful water...and there was room to move around.

One of the Tiki Bar guys actually came to tell us when our cab driver came back for us!!

I'm sure you could have fun at either beach.

  8. That's it. Pay up front $15 per person.(US).

That's = to $30 in Barbados $ which they give back to you immediately.

Kind of guarantees you'll eat and drink at the Tiki Hut.

Food and drinks are reasonably priced.

We actually spent a little more that afternoon.

    Nice beach. Fun place.

  9. We were at Carambola on Feb. 11th off the Jewel.

Made reservations in advance. We were told that they hold the reservation for one hour past the reservation time. I had indicated we would be there at about 10:30 am and we got there at 11. When we got there, we used a credit card to pay for the chairs & umbrellas. They were waiting for us, marked "reserved", and as soon as we walked on the beach, one of the guys got the pads for them. [even though you've reserved and paid for them, don't forget to tip!!!]

We ate lunch in the restaurant--china plates, etc. Burgers, sandwiches, salads. Nice menu. They also serve fresh sushi rolls which were delicious. Went into the restaurant with bathing suits and cover-ups...no need to wear anything else.

    Great day. Highly recommend it.

  10. I've looked and looked. Can't decide!! Wife and I will be in Barbados on a Thursday the 2nd week of April. We'd like to go to a low key beach that offers wifi, beach chairs, umbrellas and a good place to eat. Also looking for white beach and clear waters. Boatyard looks like a great place, but way too many folks.

We're just looking for a quiet beach to relax, swim, use the wifi. Any suggestions?? Harbor lights?? Thanks!!

Try the Tiki Bar at Accra Beach.

$7.50 round trip per person. Cab driver returned for us at specified time. About a 15 minute ride from the ship.

We paid $15 (USD) per person and got chairs and umbrellas. We also got $30 (BDS) in play money. We used this for food and drinks at the Tiki Bar. Huge variety of drinks, food is typical bar food, beach is in a cove with nice waves. Bathrooms are clean. WIFI.

    Hope this helps.

  11. Thanks for the great info about the beaches. Just a question about Brewers.

I saw a review on trip advisor that said there were no facilities. To me that means no restrooms. Could you give me some info on that?

We will be in Tortola in February...only ship in port that day...we are a group of 5...two have their own snorkeling equipment. Is Brewers our best bet? We were last there in 96 so I can't remember where we went!

    Thanks.

  12. I will be in Burmuda for 3 days in Mid July, I am looking for a less crowded beach with facilities, Is there any resort that has cabana rentals? We are a group of 15. no one under the age of 18.

I wrote to several hotels and got this reply from Elbow Beach Hotel which is part of the Mandarin Oriental group.

    Good afternoon,

We do offer Spa Cabanas for the day from 10am to 5pm. In which you will be able to have access to the beach, pool, spa and our restaurants. The Cabana's are priced at $400 for the day, equipped with a flat screen TV, complimentary fruit basket, bottled water and sodas, your own bathroom and shower facility as well as a cabana host to assist you with your needs. Your cabana also comes with its own docking station for your I-pods.

You might want to get in touch. I got this note from the spa manager. I don't know how many people can use it for that price.
