Problem is many of those earlier 'tips' probably don't exist any more.

Here's a new one though. If you'r not on board an hour and a half, in a U.S port before the cruise starts, you have to pay your own way to the next port to get on. An other problem, is the 'Jones Act' might not like it!

Is this just the first port when you starts your cruise or all other ports they stop during your cruise?

Help me out here so I can tip properly...

I usually tip 15-20% at restaurant depending on the service... Since we won't pay a bill for dinner/lunch on HAL cruise ship, so what would be the modest amount and generous amount?
