We were on the inaugural cruise April 2-15. The new elevator system worked marvelously - we rarely, if ever, saw any kind of major queuing for the elevators. Our room was on deck 14 and most of the time we had an express elevator to or from our floor - very nice indeed! The system takes a little getting used to because you have to remember to select your floor when you call the elevator (or you can check the monitor to see if one has already been called for that floor).
Overall - we liked it and thought it worked really well.

We've actually done (OK, will have done - after next week!) two. Carnival Splendor and also Carnival Horizon which sails next week. We love inaugural cruises - it's great fun to be the first to see a new ship and there's just something special about being where nobody else has! We've never noticed any downsides - Carnival works so hard in during the building and commissioning phases to ensure that everything is ready to go on day 1.

call Carnival. You will need the reservation number and PIN for each reservation.

Bring a supply of 'little gifts' in your bag. Cards, candies, gifties - anything small - and leave them on her pillow at night. It's not so much what you give that's important, but that you thought to do something special every day.
The gesture will mean a lot!

yes, magnets stick to the wall just fine. We usually carry a couple of high-strength magnets to hang things on!

we just got off Breeze last week and attended the Chef's table on that cruise. It wasn't the menu you described from Vista, but it was truly an incredible evening! Well worth it!
