  1. We have cruised for years and have always brought a power strip as there are never enough outlets in the cabin. This has never been a problem, but this time it was confiscated. Obviously I missed something, as did many others since when we went to reclaim it at the end of the cruise, the table was a "sea" of confiscated power strips. I checked with a friend who was on another line at the same time we were and she said that they did not have their power strip taken.  There were two outlets by the desk, so we were okay in the end. I do wish they had a suitable outlet in the bathroom for a hairdryer. The hairdryers on the ship are inadequate to say the least.

  2. I see you're on the March 27, 2017 5 night cruise. Your cruise doesn't look very booked. Could be because it's an unusual, shorter itinerary. I'd watch prices because I betcha they're going to come down.

If you take a look at the dates between March and April for the Summit, you'll see which dates are going to be the busiest. At this point, it looks like the April 1st is the one that is going to be packed with families. This is also the week the kids in Puerto Rico have off from school. For those reasons, we avoided that week like the plague.

Good tip, thanks! And phew! Glad we booked the week before Puerto Rico's school break...

  3. DH and I have booked a southern Caribbean cruise on the Summit in late March to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. My question is for anyone who has sailed this itinerary over spring break... Are there tons of kids? Is it a party/booze cruise? We both work in a school so are very limited as to when we can sail and we wanted a particular itinerary, so we kind of had no choice but to book then. We booked a CS (7138) - our first time in a suite! Any advice is very welcome. We haven't sailed on X since 2002!

  4. Search the St Maarten forum and Tripadvisor for Captain Bob. It was a power boat trip with about 12 passengers. They picked us up at the cruise ship dock, took us to his marina, and then we toured the harbor, did some snorkeling, then went up the coast to the French side, then back down stopping for lunch and watching the planes land from the end of the runway. It was not a "cushy" trip as we cruised at high speed to cover that much water, but it was an absolutely fantastic trip.

Wow - awesome reviews. Thank you so much for the tip. Sounds like a must-do!

  5. We did that exact itinerary in 2013 and loved it. The boat tour we took on St. Maarten was the best excursion we have ever done in the Caribbean.

If you didn't think she was run-down in 2011 after 10 years of service, you won't think so now, either, especially after the recent dry dock. People see different things and (understandably) they compare the ship they are on to the last one they saw.

The Oceanview bar is still there, behind the buffet area. It can be crowded at mealtimes as a lot of people grab a plate and sit out there. It's a great place for sailaway.

We will be going to St. Maarten next spring. Can you tell me more about your favorite boat tour? Was it through Celebrity or independent? Thanks for any info!

  6. We had a great experience staying one night pre-cruise at the Holiday Inn Express on 17th. It is within walking distance of absolutely anything as far as food/beverages and shopping for last minute cruise supplies. Short walk to the top of the bridge to look at the ships, short walk to the water taxi stop, etc. etc. Great staff, good breakfast in the morning... shuttle service (fee) to the port. We recommend it.

  7. This is a complicated question. Very hard to pick just one thing, especially that is completely unique to the Ruby. At this moment, I'd have to say the Captain. Commodore Romano is wonderful. I'd also pick a few of the personnel who went above and beyond, but since they move around the fleet when contracts change, it's hard to single out the Ruby in particular. Wonderful ship all the way around. Wish we were on her at this moment...sailing with Pia and Wehwalt and the other lucky cruisers.

  8. Odd, very odd.

I just posted two Patters to a Roll Call asking for them (so they could plan a Cabin Crawl around the ship's more popular activities.

They were PDFs, one was 568kb and the other, 614kb. It worked fine.

I attached using the "paper clip" icon in the toolbar.

(Mine are Caribbean Princess Patters from December, not Ruby Princess - anyone want these?)

Just tried this again, and got the same message - upload of file failed. Dang it! Very frustrating. But I have sent them to those that asked - hope I didn't miss anyone...

  9. For those of you who saw that my hubby injured his back taking luggage off the shuttle van - he wasn't a 'kiddin. He got the results of his MRI yesterday and he has 2 bulging disks, 2 herniated disks, and a pinched nerve. That, on top of arthritis (not related to this injury, but still), and he's a hurtin' pup. Be careful peeps.... all I'm saying. Nothing can interfere with total enjoyment of a cruise like a back injury (and had he just let the van driver grab the luggage as he was about to...).
