  1. The way you got hooked on cruising is how we got hooked. I surprised my partner with a cruise (our first) for his Bday. He didn't know on what or to where we were going until I got him to Port Liberty in Bayonne.

Pied Piper is a gay travel agency out of NYC. The fares are discounted and you travel as a group on a regular cruise but you don't have to be with the group in all of their functions (but the free cocktail parties are a definite must participate). We've traveled twice with them. Pied Piper was our first cruise.

If you'd like to talk more about similar cruising interests feel welcome to e-mail us at Montclair2Guys[at]aol[dot]com.

Aquafest Cruises is another agency that puts together gay groups on regular cruises. My partner and I sailed with them recently on a Celebrity transatlantic. It was our first sailing as part of a group. We thought they did a great job and would definitely sail with them again.

  2. It was being organised on the main roll call, and is listed on Sherry's Website. I didn't realise there were so many people staying out in Civitavecchia pre-cruise till i checked it yesterday.

I think if you just post on the main roll call for Sherry to add you to her list, then show up on the night, that's all you need to do.:)

I'd say 54 people will pretty much fill up the San Giorgio bar area. Last year we had a young bartender who grinned alot but was very unfamiliar with American drink orders.

I didn't realize it would take place in Civitavecchia, as there's also a San Giorgio hotel in Rome. I'm staying in Rome. But thanks for the info.

  3. We looked at Rome Cabs (www.romecabs.com) before booking the train. For a hotel transfer to the pier, their online booking system quoted 130 Euros. The port is a significant distance from the city. I think it's around 50 miles. There are probably less expensive private or shared options to be found once you're in Rome. I have to say the train was a lot of fun. But you may not want to board the ship after a couple nights at the St. Regis! We're staying at the IQ, a few blocks away from you.

Yes, everyone here has been very helpful. Looks like a nice group of people.

I have to stop speed reading these messages. It's Jeff who may not want to board the ship after the St Regis!

  4. Thanks for the great info on the trains. Very thorough and helpful. Does anyone know how much it would be to take a cab from Rome to Civitavecchia?

  5. Glad to hear you enjoyed the IQ Hotel before. I haven't been to Rome for about 12 years. Hubby hasn't been, so we weren't sure which one to pick and thought it would be a decent pick, as the Trip Advisor reviews seem fairly consistent.

Have you arranged transport to the pier though the hotel?

We're taking the 12:10 train from Roma Termini to Civitavecchia on Saturday morning. It's about a 15 min walk to Civitavecchia town center from the train station. The port runs a free town-ship shuttle bus. Hope to see you at the IQ!

  6. We're staying at the IQ 11/29 for 2 nights. We've stayed there before and it's a great choice. It is directly across from Rome's opera house, walking distance to Termini, and an even shorter walk to the metro.

For opera house schedule and tickets, try www.operaroma.it/en. Macbeth is playing on 11/29.

We're with Aquafest. We've never sailed on a gay cruise or with a group before, so really looking forward to it!

  7. Summer is over. Should we think about having another gathering of the local cruisers?[/quote

Now that summer is over, I think it would be a good time to think about another get-together for area cruisers. I had a great time at the last one and met a lot of nice people. Anyone sailing on the Silhouette 12/1/12 transatlantic?

  8. Welcome ptown and pompano. I'm from the boston area too, living in NYC now. Anyone form NYC?

Lived in Manhattan (East 57th St.) for forty years until 2001. Now retired in Tucson with my partner and just plan trips and enjoy the peace and quiet:)

We're not quite ready to retire, but we are starting to think about the high cost of living here when retired.
