West Quay Cars are quoting just over £300 ($365) online. Maybe worth calling to try and negotiate that down a bit!

Alternatively, right now Uber’s showing just under £250 ($300).

I’d also point out that July 21st is the day most English schools finish for the summer so I would expect a lot more traffic than normal towards Dover, as thousands of British families head to the ferries and Channel Tunnel for their holidays in France. @ETinCA the earlier you’re on the road the better.

Ok I'll give them a call. I figured the transfer would be a good $300-$400 So that's not a problem

  2. Thanks for the replies so far. Yes, we are aware of the distance and it’s on Friday July 21.  We hope to be off the ship by 8am or earlier and 9am at the latest. Carnival leaves at 5pm so we should have plenty of time.  We figured it was going to be an expensive journey and planned to take a car service as train or boat would take too long.  We even thought about taking Royal’s transfer back to London and Carnivals to Dover from the airport if need be but port to port is much preferred.
it’s only 2 of us so only 2 suitcases total. Hopefully this info helps a bit more.  Thanks.

  3. I noticed tonight that the prices dropped dramatically on some cabin classes too. Especially the inside rooms. Looks like people are dropping off.

From what I can see, the Nieuw Statendam only does the Baltics June 10 and July 6 this season. My guess would be they may reroute the ship to closer locations for those two dates, like Norway, or Spain/France/Portugal maybe? Just speculation....

  4. It seems like the whole region is a bit unstable currently...hopefully that changes, but if not, all three ports of Klaipeda, Tallinn, and Helsinki are in jeopardy I'm guessing. I didn't know Princess also canceled today too. I guess we will take a wait and see approach over the next two weeks.

  5. We are on the Nieuw Statendam for the 28 day cruise on July 6, 2022. The first 10 days is the Baltic leg. The Norwegian Getaway just canceled their Baltic season it seems...June 13 through October 9. Anyone else getting concerned about this being canceled and the ship being redeployed? Final payment is coming up in a few weeks, and it isn't cheap for 28 days 🙂   Just wondering thoughts and what others are doing.

    Thanks

Hello all!  We had a wonderful 10-day cruise on the Eurodam.  I wanted to make sure to caption my photos within the body of my trip report, so I made a PDF document instead of manually copying everything.  Please let me know if you have questions or thoughts, and please go cruise on a HAL ship soon!

Can you tell us which nights were the "elegant nights"?

  7. Do customs take an extra lengthy amount of time when coming from Europe (Copenhagen) to Boston? We are looking at a flight time of around 11:40am out of Boston, which is normally enough time, but I didn't know if the ship takes longer to clear and if it took longer than normal to clear passengers when arriving from Europe. It's for the July, 2022 sailing on Nieuw Statendam.

    Thanks in advance.

  8. I have made my review and stand by it. Yes I rated him on TripAdvisor, and also stand by that as well. My reason for the posting is to make others aware of their policy before booking so they don't have this happen to them.  I've cruised for many years in many ports, and as I stated in the original post, it is shame on me for assuming that this company would refund my deposit due to the conditions of the cancel. It's the first time this has happened and I will not make this mistake again. Had we missed the port for some strange reason, other than extreme weather, I would not have said a word.

My feelings were that the conditions were not good enough for the ship that day, nor for the tour that day.

  9. Just a heads up for any of those looking to book with Fosshestar in Isafjordur. He does not refund your deposit if the ship is unable to make the port of call. He makes the decision himself if the conditions are "safe to ride".

Our ship, Nieuw Statendam on August 12, was due to call on the port. The weather forecast was very poor, calling for cold, rain, and heavy winds. We left Reykjavik on the afternoon of the 11th, and the captain informed us that due to high winds and rain on the seas and in the forecast, and unsafe tender conditions, that we were cancelling the port visit on August 12 at Isafjordur and going straight to Akureyri a day early. We also received a letter stating the same issue. We were able to go a day early due to another ship canceling Akureyri on the 12th.

We were also warned to take items on high shelves, and to plan for rough seas of 18-20' for a period of 5-7 hours on August 12, which we did indeed have. I emailed Arni at Fosshestar as soon as we were told the news and informed him we would not be coming in due to the ship canceling the port of call. He let me know that he would be unable to refund me our deposit, as he only does so "if we feel that the weather does not allow for a safe tour" and argued that the captain shouldn't have canceled the port of call. Something tells me I would trust our captain over this guy and the seas we had that day would support the captain's decision.

Truly, I have never had a company keep a deposit on a canceled port. This is a shame on me I guess for assuming, but I didn't think he would actually keep a deposit if a ship canceled due to unsafe conditions.

He may give great horse ride tours, and we were disappointed not to make it there, but after working with this guy, I personally would not book with them again due to their policy. Others may be fine with this risk, but I just wanted to make sure people were aware of their policy ahead of time before booking with them.

It's an absolute embarrassment (as a San Diegan) that the Port of San Diego cannot get a parking lot to adequately supply parking for cruise guests.

I've always said the Port of SD couldn't manage a hot dog stand so I don't expect it to get fixed any time soon.

They better get their act together though because the Carnival Dream starts two years of departures here in 2020.

Say what now about the Dream in 2020 in San Diego? Nothing about that anywhere... You just hoping or know something?

  11. We will be in Key West for July 4 until 5pm. Any recommendations for the Holiday? We have been to Key West several times and enjoy walks there and restaurants like Sloppy Joes, but am wondering what fun there is to be had here on July 4. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
