Two weeks ago, I was on the charter music cruise watching these guys (among many others).

I assume we were on the same cruise?  I'm sorry I didn't say hello.  I guess I'll do it now.

My cabin in steerage on the Summit was handled well, but I have low expectations for such things.

Hello!  It looks like you were on RnR. We were on FPC. I hope you had as much fun as we did.

Our attendant was new and overwhelmed. By the end of the week, she had an assistant working with her. Like someone else said on here, this was a first world problem for us.  I *need* my balcony so no steerage for me.

  2. We were on the Summit in AQ on deck 11 2 weeks ago. Our service started out wonderfully but quickly deteriorated.  By the end of the cruise, we were lucky to get our room serviced once sometime during the day. Very disappointing but we will try again next year (we love the music cruise chartered on Celebrity).  We did get our bottled water daily.

  3. We are just back from NYC and the Emerald Princess.  We flew in to JFK and stayed a night at the TWA Hotel there. Very interesting and a nice hotel. The next morning we had a Carmel Car Service ride arranged to the port.
After the cruise, we stayed a few days in NYC and then flew home through LGA. Again, we had a Carmel Car Service ride.
between the taxi ride from the cruise port to our hotel in the theater district and our Carmel rides, I highly recommend Carmel. I think the price was reasonable and the service was great.
as for the airport, they were both rather easy to navigate. It did seem like we had longer walks at LGA though.
and yes, the hotels in NYC are so very expensive!

  4. We are just back from NYC, sailing on the Emerald Princess. I found recommendatIons on this board for Carmel Car Service. That’s what we used from JFK to the Brooklyn port before the cruise and then from Times square to LGA on the way home. I highly recommend Carmel!

I thought the price was reasonable, the convenience and safety were great and the service was tremendous.

  5. Ship: Summit

    Revolution (2019 onwards) - Yes

    Cabin: 9127

    Deck: 9

    Class: AQ2.

    Area/Location: Midship

    Bed Location / View: Wall-facing

Quiet? No - Metallic clanking periodically (day and night!).  We were never able to pinpoint where it was coming from but the cabin was below the bakery area (mmmmm ... good smells coming from there) and that could have been where the noise was coming from

    Balcony/Porthole View: Balcony

    Balcony/Porthole Size: Standard

    Wind a Problem? No

    Soot a Problem? No

Comments: I was a bit disappointed with the Revolution.  The cabin (used to have a couch!) now has an oversized chair, no coffee table and I am no longer able to hang long dresses in the closet without the bottom crumpling up (there is a shelf in the bottom of the closet now).  The chairs on the balcony look very similar to the chairs that used to be there but they are much more uncomfortable.

  6. Just back from our cruise and I wanted to post the prices for the packages. According to the sheet we received from the Internet Cafe, the cost was social (14.95/day), surf (24.95/day) and premium (29.95/day). Since this was an 8 day cruise and we selected the surf package, I expected to pay about $200. I was billed $109.99.

So I’m still not sure what the price should be.

  7. It will just be the two of us and we'll be in the same cabin so all our photos will be included! ;)

    BUT....my question is slightly different.

Last Princess cruise we were with my in-laws. So WE got the flash drive and then sent the digital files to the other people. At the time, IIRC, we were told that if we bring the flash drive back, we would get some sort of discount/deal in the future. They probably count of people losing it or forgetting it. HA! I know exactly where it is..... next to my passport so I don't forget either!

Does anyone know if you already have the flash drive, what the dealio is with the $199 package? We always spend WAY too much money on photos, so I've been planning on getting the package....

Or should I just call Princess and ask?

I don’t know the answer but would be interested in knowing since I also have purchased the photo package for an upcoming cruise. Please come back and let us know what Princess says.

  8. Thank you for your responses. I was finally able to talk to someone at Princess and was told that they are switching over to Princess Connect. She wasn’t sure why it wasn’t appearing as internet options for me nor could she tell me the cost for the various packages (social, surf, premium) because my cruise is 8 day. She had prices for 7 and 10 day cruises.

On the positive side, she said these new packages should cost less than the previous per minute options.

  9. I’ll be going on a BI cruise on the Pacific Princess in a few months and am busy pre-purchasing. I can’t find any internet packages offered. Is there a special place I should be looking (other than the Internet package tab)? DH won’t be happy without internet access!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  10. We’re about 7 weeks out from our cruise and i was able to print out the luggage tags this weekend. But i had to go in to the cruise booklet and print the tags - i think it was page 13 - several times to get the number of tags i needed.

On a separate but related note: is there only one express pass per cabin or should i expect to have an express pass each for my dh and for me? The boarding pass for another cruise line was per passenger and I’m a bit confused now. TYIA

  11. I have read that sometimes the drain traps are broken in the bathrooms. If you notice a smell, people have said to pour two cups of water into the toilet and it will alleviate the smell. I did this when we were on an NCL cruise, and it worked!

I didn't notice a sewage smell on the Magic and am so sorry you had to deal with it. It can be very unpleasant.

I had never heard that before. Thanks for the tip!

  12. Crown Princess 8/13 - 8/20/16 to Alaska

We had a great time on our cruise to Alaska from Seattle the week of 8/13/16. Sailing were my DH and me (late 50's). We've been on several cruises on different lines (Carnival, Holland America, NCL, Royal, Disney, Celebrity) so I'll highlight some of the differences I saw on our first cruise with Princess.

    The Good:

Balcony on Caribe deck: thank you, thank you, thank you for the awesome information on this board that led me to book on this deck. The balcony was twice the size of other balconies with 1/2 covered and 1/2 uncovered. Perfect to view the awesome sights on this cruise.

As we boarded, our rooms were ready. We were guided directly to the elevators and swept up to our rooms to drop our carry ons and then wander up to the Lido deck for a bite of lunch.

The all-inclusive photo package ($199 for all photos, both printed 8x10s (formal) and 5 x 7s (informal) and digital). The photographers were wonderful and we came away with some great photos to accompany our memories.

Spa Thermal Package ($199 the first day for a couple) - I enjoyed it, my DH ... not so much. There were heated tile loungers, a steam room, an aromatherapy room and another room (dry heat?) which I never used. If I were to do it again, I'd buy for myself only (I went every day!).

Princess provided a wonderful enrichment program with various speakers. Unfortunately we missed the puppies but I saw pictures so I knew they had been there too.

The only entertainer we saw was the comedian. He was funny and it was an enjoyable show.

The weather was wonderful. I packed for layers but never needed the fleece, winter hat, or gloves. And we had very little rain too.

We took excursions (whale watching, Mendelhall Glacier and brewery tour in Juneau and dog sledding in Skagway) but not through Princess. We were very pleased with the size of the groups and the efficiency of the operators.

I've read a lot on these board about the pros and cons of Your Time Dining. All I can say is that it worked for us. We were able to get reservations for the time we wanted (5:15 pm) each night we wanted it and were able to get a table for 2. The first night, the service was slow and I never got my drink nor my coffee. I was worried. However, the other nights the service was spectacular. No need to worry.

Dress for dinner: Most of the people I saw on formal night were dressed in suits (some tuxes) for men and sparkly tops/dresses for the ladies. Not as informal as I'd seen reflected on the boards. In any event, the food tasted as yummy to me.

    The Bad:

Unlike other cruise lines we've sailed with, Princess didn't have a deli and their sandwich selection at the International Cafe was sorely limited. Also, breakfast room service selection was more limited than I've seen on some other lines.

The Spa hot tub was warm until we turned the jets on. They shot in cold water. We didn't stay long.

We did not find the bed to be comfortable. It took me a while each morning to work the kinks out of my back and there was a definite sagging to the mattress.

    The Ugly:

At the very end of the cruise ... wouldn't you know it ... we were slapped with the cold hand of reality. We decided to use EZ Check so that we wouldn't have to worry about our bags until we got to our home airport. We were flying first class - there was to be no charge for our bags from the airline. We'd have to pay the $20 per person handling fee for EZ Check but that was fine with us. When we got our final bill, we had been charged for 2 bags for my DH (none for me) for a total of $50 in addition to the $20 handling fee.

We contacted 3 different people at Guest Services. None were able/willing to help research, let alone fix, the problem. The last person told me I needed to talk to the airline to get the money refunded. When we got to the airport, I checked with the airline (Alaska Airlines). She checked and even showed me the screen with our ticket info on it. There was NO CHARGE for the bags from the airline.

So, dear Cruise Critic friends, if anyone has any suggestions on how I can get Princess to refund the $50 luggage fee they collected, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer.

  13. The robe I see on the website is the suite robe ... Not the cloud 9 spa robe. My spa robe has cloud 9 spa embroidered on it and I believe the fabric is different. We were given the opportunity to purchase the robe while we were on the Dream in a spa balcony room. Also I think it was more expensive ($65 instead of the $50 on the website)

    I hope this helps.

  14. We were on the same cruise and also had a wonderful time. I was going to write a quick review but yours covers it so well that I'll just add a few notes.

We had a spa cabin and we loved it. You're right - the areas were never crowded. My favorite was the T-pool but the other areas were winners too. I had read on the boards to bring a water bottle up to the spa and fill it with the fruit-infused water. That was a great idea and I did it daily.

We were travelling with my brother and sil in the cabin next door so we were able to have the divider between out balconies open for a great, large balcony.

Before the cruise, i emailed the Maitre'd and requested a 4 top table by the windows. He accommodated my request and we had a lovely table with great servers. (Another great tip I found on these boards!)

I agree that FTTF was well worth the cost. Everything from the priority boarding to tender priority to priority debarkation was great.

Can you tell that we had a great time?
